Highlands All State LB and All State DB Austin Abner has committed to play for Coach Ron Zook in Champaign next year as a Preferred Walk On.

 

Austin passed on Scholarship offers from a handful of other schools mainly D1-AA and has decided to take Illinois up on their offer for an opportunity to play in the Big Ten....

 

The hard work is starting to pay off....

Yeah it's a good thing for "them" that they started to show strong interests in Austin the day after the 2009 State Championship game. Something about those Big Games that brings out the scouts. It gave "them" plenty of time to evaluate Austin's multi-position talents throughout the 2010 season. But yeah, it's a nice get for him......

He certainly has gotten bigger and stronger each year. It's obvious he's put in some work. I've been to a couple of Highlands basketball games hoping to see him out of pads to see how he's bulked up but never have seen him in the crowd.
