As I said in the predicition thread Highlands is just more balanced. It showed tonight.

I know there is a middle school party before the game that ends at 7:30. So for this week I'm confident the 7:30 start time is legit.

Both teams’ players will come to play for sure. The question is whether the Ryle coaching staff will be on their game. What are they going to do in the first series if it’s 4th and 1 on their own 35 yard line? Are they going to punt or go for it? Ryle needs to be patient and not go all in early in the game. Hemple IMO unlike the last game against Covington Catholic is going to have to go both ways a decent portion of the game if Ryle is going to contain the Birds passing game. Not the best scenario for a good QB to be placed in. None of these teams should underestimate the opposing QB’s ability to run the football. Hemple demonstrated it last game and Towles has proven he can also run a little. I think the overall balance of Highlands is a little better and will result in a victory for Highlands over a very good Ryle team.

Pretty strong statement for a seasoned QB. I doubt Hemple was afraid of a Dixie Defense.

It's a tall order, but force JC to throw and defend the pass and Boyle probably wins this one.

This is a scrimmage of two of the most storied high school football programs in Kentucky. I’m sure both teams will come out of it a little better than they were going into it. When all said and done it will only be remembered if there is a major injury. I don’t remember much about the Male scrimmage last year, but I vividly remember the Male scrimmage two years ago when Josh Connor suffered a serious leg injury. This scrimmage will certainly provide each team with a good barometer on where they stand going into August 20th. I kinda doubt a few years down the road that you’ll hear former Trinity or Highlands players reminiscing about the scrimmage of 2010.

That's ok "Theoldguy" I'm sure most looked at the post and figured out I was referring to this year. Hence Moeller's 2010 Rivals ranking, the 7 on 7 match-up played in 2010 at Highlands and coach Rodenberg's comment also made in 2010. But thanks for letting me know about some of the more recent successes of the Covington Catholic football program.

Rivals has Moeller ranked 69th in the country. Highlands pretty much had their way with them in a recent 7 on 7. Coach Rodenberg said, "We won't be as fast as we have been in previous years, but we are never a team that really relies on speed." As you long as you don't play Highlands Coach Rodenberg you should be good to go.

For the love of Pete it is a sports blog. When a player is getting the attention he's getting and has never played the position before in High School there is going to be debate. If everyone took your approach 'Bluegrass Preps" would cease to exist. Heck, start a thread and label it "Congratulatory Responses Only."

His exposure whether justified or not will be a great benefit for all Northern Kentucky football players. I would assume many schools will be watching him play, which will provide a great opportunity for other players to be seen.

In all seriousness VOR at one point it was 8-2 Highlands and to answer your question Beechwood's varsity defense did not score any touchdowns on Highlands offense. There was one pick in traffic on about the 5 yard line, but that ball would not have been run back. There were some bright spots on both sides of the ball for both teams. I think the scrimmage was probably a little more advantageous for Beechwood, because I think they got a very good idea what it's going to be like facinga Highlands team who will more likely than not have anybody going both ways. I did try to watch both Beechwood quarterbacks. I thought they were both pretty good. Based on yesterday I didn't see much of a disparity between them.
