Featured Replies

Zeke Pike from Dixie and Joe Manley from BG are Top 150 for juniors according to Sporting News. Can't find a link though.

Congrats to both.

Having seen both play, what major difference b/n Towles and Pike do college recruiters see that I don't? Pike appears to be an athlete playing quarterback, whose future is elsewhere. Towles looks like a future QB, but the system that he was in has done little to show his overall ability to make certain reads and throws. I don't see either being heads and shoulders above the other, but Towles has been lightly recruited and Pike is recruited as a top QB. Am I that bad at evaluating talent?

Good question. I believe it's too early to write Pike off as a D1 QB.

I think this summer will be when we see Towles start picking up offers. My only concern (and I'm no qb coach) is his throwing motion. Could that be a problem for recruiters?

Towles is garnering some interest from what I understand. I don't know whether or not that interest has raised to the level of actual scholarship offers, but I'm sure the interest is there.

Isn't Towles a year younger? Pike's father could also play a role.

I doubt it.

I doubt it.

You don't think college programs are more interested in the son of a former NFL player?

I realize Towles has some good genes as well, but Mark Pike had a 12 year career in the NFL Some (lower level) schools will automatically be interested in a kid who's 6'5'' 225 lbs. with a father who played in the NFL.

Who are some of the schools that are offering Pike?

The top SEC schools might first take note of the fact that Mark played in the NFL but they're not going to offer based simply on that. He'll get a scholarship on his own accord.

Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida plus about 15 others at this point.

Obviously. My point was that it could offer some explanation as to why Pike was noticed before Towles...

Do recruiters look at a young man's personal conduct when evaluating the proper "fit" into a college football program?

Is that a rhetorical question?

My guess is that it had more to do with his size, promotion, and camps.

For the record I don't know Zeke. Never had a conversation with him. Don't know his dad. Not a Dixie guy.

With that said this stuff is tiresome and petty. Let's try not to attack kids on this board. Let's let their parents, coaches, and recruiters deal with any questions they might have.
