  1. We were taught to block to the echo of the whistle, seems as though that is excessive in todays game.
  2. Hate to say it, but I used to look forward to the annual battle that was Beechwood and Bellevue. That being said, this one will be over somewhere in the latter part of the first quarter.
  3. He does run hard, hard to believe he has never run the football before, looks very instinctive when he carries the football. Beechwood looks to have some nice athletes on the freshmen team.
  4. I am going with the Juggs in this one, they looked good last week, going to keep up the momentum with an upset win vs Conner. Juggs by 3
  5. The Tiger Freshmen looked good last night, seems as though they have multiple weapons. On another note, #17 from Holmes was a good looking kid, he has size and athleticism.
  6. Agree BW wins, maybe not by as big a margin as in years past, but I'll go by at least 17.
  7. I wont go on and on about the cyclical nature of student athletes, because Highlands hasn't faced that in a long time. Yes some teams were more talented than others, but this obviously is a cycle they have not faced in some time. Highlands will be fine, a challenging year or two only makes climbing back to the summit more meaningful. This is nothing more than a small blip on the radar.
  8. SK 35 - Highlands 28, although this could go south for the Birds in a big hurry, I believe they are going to show great resolve and strength of character in keeping this close.
  9. Got to go with the Cards from the west, Mayfield by 10+
  10. To be honest with you, all of the situations you describe chap my butt, tired of this "look at me" mentality. Selfish kids who put themselves above the team, and yes, Stringer deserved the flag last night, uncalled for
  11. Was standing right there, never had control, refs got it right.
  12. Good for Boone, hope the Frosh success ignites some enthusiasm in the school and gets more kids out of the hallways and on to the gridiron.
  13. Have seen the middle school team play, they aren't very big, but they execute well and play within themselves. I heard the freshmen team looks like they are talented at the skill positions. Will be interesting to see how this translates into future success. Beechwood seems to have some strong classes waiting in the wings to reload the Tiger program.
  14. From what I can tell they are young, they have had great success at the middle school level, if those kids continue to grow as football players the next few years should be fun at WV.
  15. Not sure what is going on in Bellevue, much to proud a tradition to be headed down this path.....That being said I say Bellevue gets healthy against Holmes and wins by 7
  16. If you haven't seen the Slusher kid from Beechwood play you are missing one heck of a show. All the young men mentioned thus far deserve the recognition, but I would have to put Slusher on another level.
  17. Great answer and insight. There is a ton of luck involved, and the willingness to avoid putting down anything that resembles roots for a long, long time. A very good friend of mine who I played college ball with, who shall remain nameless, is a very talented coach who hitched his wagon to the wrong horse.....finally had to let go of the dream after 15 years and about 6 moves. Tough gig, not everyone is getting paid Saban and Meyer money.
  18. Rooting for Highlands, thinking that X wins big......hope that I am wrong!
  19. Dumb question, can Mayfield and Desales meet in the State Championship or will their potential game be in the state semi's?
  20. Shoot, Beechwood has 7 kids from last years team playing college football, all about ability.
  21. I'm not sure, but my gut tells me the answer should be no.
