  1. Have to admit, I got it wrong in a pee wee football game years ago while coaching, cant remember the exact call, but when I talked to the whitehat regarding the call, he reminded me that this wasn't the NFL, high school rules on certain calls were different. Point well taken, felt like an idiot. I'd like to think that was the last time it happened, but I'm sure I put my foot in my mouth a number of times since.
  2. "Coach doesn't give him a chance"
  3. Hope that it is a good game, but I think Scott seals the deal and wins by 21+
  4. I heard McGinnis has moved up to varsity, anyone confirm or deny that.
  5. Hopefully they will stay at Lloyd, I saw them play once this year, and the big kid #22, was a beast.
  6. I was at a high school game last year and sat in the stands, which I usually avoid at all costs, when a lady from the opposing team starting yelling for her son to tackle the guy in front of him.....the only problem with that is that her son was an offensive tackle, her husband tried to explain this to her, and she in no uncertain terms told him to keep his mouth shut, she fully understood the game of football and didn't need his help. Needless to say, I decided it would be better for me to hang out at the fence like I normally do.
  7. Should be a great game, rivalry games always are, Conner keeps it close, but I like Cooper by 10
  8. Cov Cath by a bunch, Dixie has had a tough year, they are young and learning valuable lessons. Boys in blue win by 21
  9. I'll go with the Juggs on this one
  10. Up What does this have to do with a single A team? It's not like they are going to face either team in the playoffs.
  11. Should be a good game, Conner is much improved from a year ago. That being said I look for Ryle to win by 10 or less.
  12. SKNeer, you are correct in one assertion, years ago Beechwood did choose to play in the small school or large school freshmen league each and every year, the theory was that it was based on the roster size of the freshmen team. I can't comment on whether that was the real motivation, but that is what I have been told. When the small school freshmen league disbanded Beechwood did play in the large school division for I believe 3 years. A couple of years ago, small schools that had not fielded a freshmen team in the prior 3 years committed to fielding freshmen / froshmore teams, and Beechwood committed to playing in the small school division and not jumping back and forth. Beechwoods schedule was set this year, but Newport backed out due to low numbers, and Holy Cross backed out due to low numbers of freshmen and sophomores. It is my understanding that Beechwood is and will be committed to the small school division for the foreseeable future, but would agree they should try and schedule at least one more large school if available. It is my understanding the large school division had enough teams that there was no room in the schedule this year for additional games where small schools played up, but again that is my understanding. There are several outstanding freshmen teams this year, Beechwood just happens to be one of them.....are they better than Highlands, CC, Ryle or Cooper, we will never know the answer to those questions, but I feel as though they would most certainly be competitive. Just my two cents worth.
  13. If we have learned anything over the past 4-5 years, the Pioneers will be fine once the move on to varsity. Credit the coaches for seeing the big picture, but I'm sure it is tough on the young Pioneers. Hang with 'em is the best advice
  14. NewCaths Freshmen coach Keith Culp is a heck of a coach, didn't get to see the game, but heard from many sources they are in a down cycle, it happens to every school. If anyone can help reverse the trend it is coach Culp, he took the upstart Beechwood Middle School team to a championship in just 2 years. As I heard one person say, "Coach Culp has forgotten more about football than most High School Head Coaches will ever know".
  15. Yeah reality, your right, they could not compete, so they went to froshmore.
  16. Can assure you, lots of feelers out, no takers, Just Saying!
  17. 2012 / 2013 only big school freshmen, Beechwood played both years, only school below 5A to have a team play freshmen those two years. 2014/2015, Beechwood played in small school once it was reintroduced, doubt it will be around long though, Newport could not field a team and Holy Cross just wants to play Juniors.
  18. You don't know anything, it is obvious, last year the NKY Coaches association made it a point to bring freshmen football back to the smaller schools. So Beechwood, a single A school, played in the small school division, with Holy Cross, Scott, Lloyd, Holmes, and NewCath, they did play one large school last year and it was CovCath...makes sense its a local rivalry. You may have noticed that Beechwood is the only team on that list that is single A, and probably the only team that played only freshmen and 8th graders, as most of the other played freshmen and sophomores to fill out their roster. This year Beechwood played in the small school, freshmen or froshmore, league, from the beginning. And no, when they won it all 4 years ago, there was no small school league, it was all the big boys on the block. Like I said in another post, Beechwood dispatched Conner in their scrimmage, wasn't even close, and have dispatched all their 2A and 4A opponents with relative ease, I don't know if they would be undefeated, but I am pretty darn sure they would be in the top one or two.
  19. You could be correct in your assertion, but this group of freshmen stack up pretty well against the Beechwood freshmen team of four years ago, maybe not quite as good, but pretty darn close. That freshmen team played in the big school league, of course that year there was only a big school freshmen league, and went undefeated.....they did not have a close game. How does that equate to this year, not exactly sure, but my guess is that if they played the 8 game schedule they would probably go 7-1 or 6-2 at worse. Just my opinion.
  20. Sorry VOR, wasn't trying to imply you were saying that, was more of a hypothetical question. I have been reading on BGP that there are no freshmen championship games this year at any level....seems anti climactic.
  21. VOR, pretty sure Holy Cross, Lloyd, NewCath all play sophomores. So if Beechwood beats New Cath on Thursday and remains unbeaten....they can't play in the Froshmore championship because they only play freshmen and 8th graders? Just curious.
  22. Wow, Cooper will be on them early and often. Cooper will win by as many as they want....I hope they have mercy on the young men from Boone County.
  23. I think Paris will win by 10, but would love to see Brossart pull the upset.
  24. From my understanding, yes, getting the tiger paw is a right of passage. Kind of cool to hold on to old traditions.
