Two evenly matched teams. Difference was XP.

BW'd DL was the key to the game. CCH couldn't get any offense going unless it was McGinnis around the end or some passing to McGinnis. DL played harder than CCH's OL.

#34 is a nice runner for BW. Cuts well.

#3 is a nice corner - plays the ball well.

Solid QB.

Nice team.

CCH scored first. Missed the kick.

BW scored and made the XP.

CCH scored before the half and missed the 2-pt conversion. 12-7 at half.

No scoring in 3rd.

With 4:40 or so to go CCH fumbled near midfield and BW took over. A long run by 34 took it to the 1 or 2. Scored next play.

CCH got the ball back with about 3:40 left. Drove down to about the 40 and then was picked on 4th down. CCH had timeouts left and got the ball back with about 2:30 or so left. McGinnis hurt his shoulder early and then again on the fumble in the 4th. Sat out the final drive. CCH got the ball down to about the 25. One play left. McGinnis re-enters and throws a pass to the endzone. Batted down. Ballgame.

Very nice! Good job Tigers!

How do they do this in the freshman now? Do they still have a freshman championship game?

Clyde said it best: two evenly matched teams that came down to extra points. Great job Tigers.

Great job, by both teams. It was a hard fought game between two good teams. It will be fun to follow these two teams throughout high school. Solid performance by #8 safety for Beechwood. Two fumble recoveries and several pass break ups and tackles. #3 was lockdown at the corner for Beechwood. CovCath's #6 is a slot and #2 made some impressive plays. Great job, both teams, good luck the rest of the year.

I agree with Clyde's comments above. Here is some added info on the game.

CCH scored their first TD with 2:34 to go in the quarter. I did not get the number of who scored.

Beechwood came back on their next possession and scored a TD with 6:44 to go in the half. Tyler Wagner scored from 1 yard out. Dillon Doverspike added the XP to give Beechwood the 7-6 lead.

CCH came right back with a 63 yard drive. The key play was a completion to McGinness (sp?) on a 4th and 9 play. He was tackled at the 1. The next play #22 scored with 3:20 to go. CCH missed the 2 point try on a QB run up the middle. 12-7 CCH leading.

Both teams were forced to punt their next possessions and that took us to halftime.

Beechwood received the second half kickoff, got one 1st down then punted. CCH then went on a long drive that started at their own 10. This drive lasted all the way into the fourth quarter but they were forced to punt.

Beechwood started their next drive at their own 10 and went 3 and out. A big punt by Doverspike went all the way to the CCH 30. On the second play of the drive a Beechwood player put a huge hit on McGinness forcing a fumble that Beechwood recovered at the 45.

It only took Beechwood 3 plays to score from the 45, with Jake Sherron (#34) having the big play running it down to the 3. Doverspike scored from there and kicked the XP to give Beechwood a 14-12 lead with 3:40 to go.

CCH started the drive after the kickoff at their 38. McGinness was out of the game following the big hit on their previous possession. They moved the ball across mid field with the passing game. Then Beechwood's d-line forced the QB to scramble and he threw a long pass inside the 10 that was intercepted by Doverspike.

There was about 2 minutes to go and CCH had two timeouts, which meant Beechwood needed one first down to run out the clock. On second down, an obvious facemask call as Sherron ran the ball (his head twisted, saw a great picture of it on someone's camera) was missed by the refs. Beechwood was forced to punt with about 1 minute to go. The punt went to the CCH 45. The Colonels hit a couple nice pass plays and got the ball down to about the 25. Then, with 8 seconds left, Beechwood blitzed and forced the QB to rush a throw, incomplete zero on the game clock. Wait ... a flag on the play. Beechwood was offsides (good call by the ref). CCH gets one more play. McGinness put his shoulder pads back on and came in for this last play at QB. He tried a throw that was batted down at about the 5 by Beechwood - Beechwood wins 14-12.

Great game. McGinness is a stud for CCH. Beechwood's defense did a great job keeping him from getting any breakaway runs. The CCH QB #2 throws a nice ball. #89 for CCH is a big target at WR who caught a lot of balls.

As Clyde said, Beechwood's line play was the difference in the game, especially the defensive line. Beechwood has a nice group of running backs - #34 Jake Sherron, #32 Tyler Wagner and #49 Doverspike. QB Clay Trusty had some key runs, including one that led to Beechwood's first TD.

It was an exciting game to see with two quality teams.

Is Tyler Wagner a redheaded boy? Probably same boy I coached 1 yr in the FTJRFL when he was a 4th grader. Very good athlete so I'm not surprised to hear he is a nice running back.

Beechwood must have a really good class.

McGinnis is Mr Everything for the Colonels. Sounds like some exciting frosh games tonight in NKY.

That's him. Great kid. He has been running tail along with Jake Sherron. Also, he plays DB on defense.

This was a fun game to watch. I would credit both defenses. I was pretty far away, but can't wait to see film and see the trenches. Loved watching #54, Bowman, get after it for Cov Cath. Hit or rushed the QB a few times. McGinnes is a special athlete. Glad to see that he wasn't hurt too bad, when he came in for the last play. Dayton Baugh #71 and Adam Derry #65 for Beechwood did very well. There were a lot of solid hits throughout the game. This was the hardest game BW has had this year. Credit CCH staff and players.... I heard the head coach say to the boys, at the half, that we were just a "1a" school.... but coach.... we are Beechwood.

Congrats Tigers!

And I haven't been following, I assume Beechwood is undefeated?

Yep

Congrats to Beechwood.

Out of curiosity, how many frosh are on each team?

Congrats to Beechwood. Out of curiosity' date=' how many frosh are on each team?[/quote']

About 30 each

Exciting game tonight by two quality freshmen teams. I would agree with some of the comments from above. #34 Jake Sherron is a nice back with good speed & cutting ability. Tyler Wagner is a quality player, solid running back with good speed & strength (scored first touchdown tonight), excellent hands as a receiver, & a good cover corner. Dylan Doverspike is a sufficient fullback (scored second t.d.), a very solid linebacker (hit one kid so hard his helmet came off & had an interception), & an excellent punter/kicker for a freshman. Extra points are automatic & helps BW gain good field advantage over opponents.

For Cov Cath, McGinnis is a good athlete. He has good speed, strength, and is a capable fill in at QB for Coldiron. #2 is also a solid backup QB with a nice passing touch & #89 is a quality receiver with length.

Good luck to both schools the rest of the season.
