Another reason they lost 5 games is because of the level of competition they play against. Their loses come from some of the top teams from Indiana, Georgia, Ohio, Ballard, and the annual NKY slip up- Ryle. I'm not saying they can't be beat, but a large reason for the increase in loses is the tough schedule.

9th Region Tournament Draw
The Observer replied to statmanhensley's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I would imagine they list the entire roster because some kids get promoted to dress varsity at various points of the season. It would be difficult to keep the rosters correct when some teams may even rotate who dresses varsity that night. -

In my opinion, Newport is run down. They only play 6 kids so I don't know how much gas is left in the tank. They may have peaked too early with their run in the All "A". Newport had a lot if trouble guarding the half court sets run by NCC, and Ryle will do just as many, if not more.

This class really helped Simon Kenton turn their football program around. Great class and I wish nothing but the best for them in the future.

Great pick up for the Cats. Always fun to hear when Kentucky gets a kid that Louisville was after :thumb:

kentucky.com Covington Catholic 64, Montgomery County 52: CovCath's Jake Thelen had a double-double by halftime, and the 6-6 center finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds. The Colonels used a flurry just before halftime to take an eight-point lead, then dominated the second half. Brett Riedinger hit a pair of three-pointers to help break it open for CovCath. He wound up with 12 points. Trevor Wellbrock muscled his way to 11 points and seven rebounds. Montgomery County was led by Jake Hanshoe, who came off the bench to get nine points in the second half. Andrew Mullins and Azrey Crisp added eight points apiece for the Indians, who were outrebounded 37-24. -
Holmes 72 Christian County 69 (OT)

From kentucky.com No. 9 Holmes 72, No. 7 Christian County 69 (OT): On a night when a lot of things didn't go right for them, the defending state champ Bulldogs found a way to win. Holmes rallied from an eight-point deficit late in regulation to tie it on Jaydale Herndon's put-back at the buzzer, then survived in overtime. The Bulldogs' 6-7 senior Elijah Pittman had 24 of his 34 points in the second half, including three clutch free throws in the last 48 seconds. Holmes senior Ricardo Johnson, rated the top player in the state in the pre-season, was in foul trouble most of the night. He had four points before fouling out with five minutes left in regulation. Holmes Coach David Henley credited Jeremiah Johnson's defense on Christian County's Anthony Hickey down the stretch for turning the game around. Hickey had 27 points but did not score in the last seven minutes. Donovan Kates had 20 points for the Colonels, who had an eight-game winning streak snapped. -

Hatton put on a show. He does appear to be done growing though. I hesitate to say he's going to be a 9th region "all-timer" at this point because he has taken advantage of playing off his teammates. That is not a bad thing of course, but as he gets older, he will be a focal point for all defenses to key on. With his lack of size, that could hurt him, but then again, we see successful players under 6'0" all the time. Best of luck to him and Dixie as they head down the stretch run of the season. -
Dayton 41 Beechwood 39
The Observer replied to Devil4Life33's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Perhaps a bigger loss for the Tigers than the game, is the loss of Cruse whom I've heard is out for the season after going down in the 1st Quarter. I'm sure the game would have been a lot different if he plays, since Dayton would have had a problem with his size. Congrats to Dayton on the victory. I heard Dayton brought a large crowd to Fort Mitchell for the game. It is something to build off of, even if they lose a boat load of seniors after this season. Hopefully they can build a program like Beechwood, in which new players step up each season. I know the Tigers have their sets sight on a making it to the region, rather than another DIII crown, but the loss of Cruse will certainly have an impact. -

Boone/Newport Predictions (1/12)

I say Boone frustrates Newport by slowing the tempo and playing a half court game. I'll take the Rebels by 5, 59-54. -
