6th grade game was played like a circus for HHS, you had spalding dribbling the air out of the ball, a knife thrower or two assistants afraid to look up and find someone open down court. On a sidenote all the action was in the center ring as action in the others would require ball movement. The magician brought the crowd to their feet with a basket and smile. Any truth to the rumor that many of these same HHS boys played against many of these same Ockerman boys and won this past weekend in AAU? Only to lose tonight in a blowout?

I thought the roof was coming down when the magician buried the putback of his own miss. Always good to see a kid get excited to score his first basket of the season. The 7th grade had the same situation present itself the other night against R.A. Jones. All I can tell you BB is to continue having patience and things will work out in the end.

This may be the funniest thing I have read on here in quite some time. I know we chatted yesterday about the state of the program at that level and it is definitely concerning considering Highlands is a football school and kids can get turned off real quick and immediately start drinking the blue football kool aid. Keep em playing AAU and having fun !!!

The current Sharp 8th grade group had a record like 1 - 25 last year. Sharp and Newport are really down at the 8th grade level.

Sharp won 2 games in the league beating Newport and Woodland and 6 games overall playing some games vs teams that are actually in their region/district come high school. They play very hard and played well vs Gray. It was a 13 point game in the 4th quarter. That is very well for Sharp.

It has been an interesting class as it moves through PCHS school system. One of the smallest in a long time. As they moved through the elementary school, teachers had to be reassign to another grade level as they only had enough students for 2-3 classes at Northern Elementary when a class normally calls for 4-5.

The 7th grade cheerleading squad has 12 girls. The 8th grade, 5. Throughout many things with the 8th grade, what is normal is much smaller with them.

Why? Not sure but there is one interesting thing and it might tie in with this grade.

The year that the 8th grade was born was the year of the flood in Pendleton County. Many, many families moved out of the county and never returned because of losing their homes in the flood.

Sharp didn't score any points in the first 3 quarters?

Correct, Ockerman pressed at the beginning of the game, after they were up aroung 16 - 0 they called off the dogs. They cleared the bench for most of the game and ran a set offense. The starters only played 2 -3 minutes in the second half. They were not trying to run up the score, but continued to play tough defense mostly not extending outside the 3 point line.

Newport doesn't have a 6th grade team. Bracken is in the league playing Newport's 6th grade schedule..

Heard not a single complaint from the Pendleton side about how Ockerman played the game. No problem with what Ockerman did.

I was not at the game but no complaints from Pendleton's side.

That's good, it's hard to get kids at that age to back off, ecspecially when they don't play that much. They are well coached and a disciplined team, most have all played together for a very long time. The last thing you want to do is be disrespectful to another team, it usually comes back to haunt you. Ockerman has Holmes at home Tuesday, this should be a very good game.
