Hire Billy

Recommended Posts

I'm putting myself firmly in the Billy Hatcher for Reds manager ASAP club. I've had some time to think out Baseball guy pinch hitting Castro for Hobbs, and this is the new direction I'm ready to support. Have fun...

Yeah, they interviewed Billy Hatcher and talked about the 1990 Series and how he is treated in Oakland.

As the interview finished up, Thom said he didn't know if anyone had ever asked BH this question, but wanted to know if managing is in his long-range plan.

Hatcher said it was.

I began to wonder at that point what you guys would think of Hatcher taking over instead of Dent. GT beat me to the thread.

Unless Billy can leadoff, steal bases, be an effective middle reliever, close out games and be semi-consistent as a starting pitcher....It won't matter much.

The talent is lacking.

:thumb: :thumb: I do believe that a manager change is needed though, at least at the end of this season. I realize talent is SEVERLY lacking but I don't think that players are giving 100% out there either, with the exception of a very few they play like they do not care. That imo reflects on Narron.

Yeah, the Manager has to "motivate" his players, and Jerry Narron is not doing that. Jim Leyland does a great job doing that. Jerry Narron needs to call out the whole team on TV like Leyland on being Cowards on the field, if he is still with the team.:p

I don't think that would work for Narron now, he has let things go for so long.

I agree about talent issues. However the moves Narron has been making have been ridiculus. Just go back through this thread I have pointed some of them out. The players realize when the leadership is laxed and they play to that level. Do they win the division if Hatcher takes over? No. I've been told Rome wasn't built in a day. Thats fine, I'm just waiting for the 1st brick to be placed, maybe Hatcher as Mgr is that 1st brick.

You may be correct, about players perception of leadership but they are professional athletes, not amateurs and they're getting a salary, to play Baseball.

If in professional sports, athletes have to be motivated to play, then they truly don't give 100% effort all the time and don't need to be playing. Without question, a pat on the back and a raised voice, often bring out the best in any player, but motivation should not be an issue, for MLB talent.

I think the passion and desire to play, is missing in Baseball and not just with the Reds. How many times, have we all seen "some" players, who hit a groundball to SS or 2B, get thrown out by 20'±, because they are just strolling down to first....No respect for the game, no respect for their team and most importantly, no passion/desire to play.

You are correct on the motivation aspect. But they can be led. And if the leader is making irratational decisions that definetly will effect the leadees. Narrons decision making has led me to wonder if he needs to be checked out by a brain specialist or a shrink. The nuerons just aren't firing right:creepy:
