Change in Leadership?

Though I would never wish it on any Coach because we all work hard at what we do, now that the first round is over, which programs do you feel need a change in leadership?

 

Try to be constructive and not just bash coaches because you are an angry fan. Please have reason for your claim other than "He Sucks" etc.

 

Always interesting to see how people feel about their staff and team.

For my team its not so much in change of Leadership, but a change in philosophy. I feel like coach takes on alot of responsibility that could be giving to some one else on staff. I will just say He does alot!!!

Leadership extends well beyond the HC to athletics administration, principal and school board. Different school districts (and privates) have different priorities. Academic ratings typically fall into a higher priority than on field athletic achievement. That being said, other than a moral failing, I don't believe there is any good reason to fire a coach. Pay is so low in this state, they are essentially volunteers for a job that is so demanding, that the pay in some states is 100 k plus!

Ryle, I know from the outside looking in everything looks fine but if one was to take a close look into game management, play calling, and player development from the quarterback position (which was the main reason coach Engler was hired). I have been involved in the program before coach Engler started and realize that the program was in need of a change. My only concern about coach, and why I am commenting on this post is because of my concerns about the offensive side of the ball post Tanner Morgan/ Jake Chisholm. Both players were outstanding football players and their talent alone was good enough to cover up coaching flaws. It was very concerning that the quarterback development of this years team was lacking. It will be interesting to watch the next few years to see if Ryle struggles to compete offensively. I also question the game strategy implemented the past two years. Time management, wasting timeouts, and the frequency in which Ryle would onside kick and surrender field position was astonishing. I know that this was coach Engler's first head coaching experience and that it would take time to learn the nuance of how to manage game situations. Unfortunately Ryle too often wastes time outs and squander field position too frequently leaving the defense in a horrible position and allowing opponents back into games unnecessarily.

 

I know some will look at the overall record Ryle has had the past few years, but I am convinced that the record had more to do with talent, and that talent overcame the many deficiencies of the head coach. The lack of a quality backup in a position that he was supposed to be an expert about makes me feel less than optimistic about the future of the raiders chances of becoming a perennial top program in 6A. I realize that the way the Boone County School system is set up plays a major role in lessening the chances of their teams competing with the likes of St. X and Trinity on a regular basis, which is why I feel it is so important to capitalize on the things that have nothing to do with talent.

Why does it look like it then? How do you explain wasting a timeout on third down, then after the time out trying to draw them offsides and when that doesn't works punting the ball on the next play. You would think that there would be a signal that you could give the quarterback that lets him know to get to the line of scrimmage to accomplish to try to draw the defense offsides. This last game against Butler we were up 14-0, Butler was not moving the ball on our defense with any consistency, Then you onside kick that they recover on the Raider 40 yard line, we get a personal foul while trying to recover the kick so they end up on the raider 45 yard line. Ryle holds Butler to a 3 & out. They punt and down the ball on the 3 yard line. We fumble and they recover and score 3 plays later. If you kick the ball off, and we have a very good kicker who has a strong leg, and hold Butler to a 3 and out, Ryle gets the ball near the 30 - 40 yard line. There is no reason to onside kick and our offense was not firing on all cylinders because Jake is playing on one leg and our back up quarterback is in the game. I get onside kicking if you are trying to score in a hurry, are looking to surprise the other team, or you want to get to a running clock scenario but why would you risk giving them the ball on a short field?

So this is really about one play, or series of plays? If so, credibility lost.

A pattern of behavior has existed for at least the past three years. The incidents in the Butler game have been seen many times in many games. Football is a simple game you run block tackle throw catch kick. All are fundamentals that are instilled through repetition daily. It’s called practice. Kids learn through repetition which brings a comfort level with what they are doing. This allows their athletic ability to take over and make big plays

Onside kick up 14-0 doesn’t seem like a good idea.

This is a good idea for a thread but you can't have a general thread about specific teams.

 

For what it is worth everyone I think Ryle needs to consider a change but Ryle wouldn't be my first priority among the four Boone County schools.

 

Again, this needs to be specific to a team for a thread to work.
