They cancelled a JV game? Oh my Lord!!! That's it, shut down the school. They clearly have no purpose to exist. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THEY CANCELLED A JV FOOTBALL GAME!! The apocalypse cometh. I'm sorry but this is just too over the top for me. With all due respect this might be among the most ludicrous concepts I've seen. Why do you repeatedly refer to the basic concepts of being a coach, of any sport by the way, as being a "guidance counselor." I'd say if you are NOT counseling your players THEN you should be fired. Wins DO NOT define how well a coach teaches the fundamentals and concepts of playing the game. THAT is a way to judge a coach. Wins and losses DO NOT define how well a coach demands discipline and commands respect. THAT is a way to judge a coach. Wins and losses MIGHT define the strength of a coach's scheduling. I'll agree THAT COULD be a way to judge a coach. Imagine the .500 coach who plays the best teams he can find being judged solely by how many wins he has. Imagine a coach who year after year has mediocre talent, low parental support and poor facilities but get 5 or 6 wins because he is a great teacher of the game. Does he get fired? By your definition just go out and schedule down and you'll at least buy yourself a few extra years at the helm. I love the ferocity in your intent, but the reality of your words just doesn't wash in this discussion In MY Humble Opinion.

With all due respect to you NKY-Sub I have to disagree. This is routine on some sidelines or outside some locker rooms after games, or in a coach's office. Sad but true. It is still fairly rare, but not as much as you might like to believe. Coaches, reporters, heck, I once saw a guy on a chain crew get physically assaulted because he "caused" another guys son to not get a crucial first down in a game they lost by 30!! But seriously, this would all stop if there were stricter gun laws . . . :banana:

How are you devaluing a championship in which less than 10% of the participants have a legitimate shot at winning? All the current system does is provide fodder for "haves" to essentially practice against.

And who are they going to practice against? And who replaces them if they're injured? And how do you develop a player who doesn't practice against decent competition each day? Simple numbers of playing slots mean nothing.

You hit the nail on the head in my opinion. Remember that with advancement comes higher payouts for participation and attendance as well as the coveted publicity for your school, etc. While that hardly covers all the bases (pun intended), it does go a long way.

Quite frankly after reading the entire text of both the proposal and the KHSAA's publicized response, the decision on this issue was and has been made long before the official proposal was ever submitted. While some of you obviously take issue with the logic of the submitter's proposal (an extremely narrow view and outlandishly limited interpretation by the way IMHO), the response looks to be and frankly IS a canned editorial and a "big school" viewpoint of the current state of the game in the Commonwealth. What is disappointing is the fact that big schools, as a rule, have whined and cried about the "unfair advantages" of private or parochial schools yet go running to the "tradition" response when their superiority in numbers is questioned. The clear and distinct advantages of the larger schools is far more of a hindrance than any supposed edge that the privates may seem to have. Status quo is the haven for cowards and lazy thinkers. Read the proposal in it's entirety and you'll see the rhetoric coming out of Julian's office doesn't even address the issues brought forth. The KHSAA is run by a minority of it's membership that consistently realize the inherent advantages of being in charge. The rest of us be darned. And let me add this fact. At a KHSBCA a couple of years ago, at which I was in attendance, an unscientific, non-secret vote was taken and nearly 80% of those in attendance who voted were in favor of classification. The majority of those opposed were also clearly larger, mostly county based schools. This isn't conjecture, or opinion, this happened. I'm not sure where Julian gets the idea that the change is "not desired" but it seems pretty clear to me that he didn't get it from the people who matter.

Wow, I was just reading this whole mess for the comedic value until I came across this little tidbit. You might want to go back and review your "English Grammar 101" textbook before throwing this dart at anyone else in this exchange. Might want to do a vocabulary review as well. You can start by focusing on "Gist" versus "Jest" and possibly "Revelation" versus "Revolution" among several others. Or are those mistakes attributable to Coach Lemaster and family as well?
