Coach/Wife Lose Mind Over Tweet By Reporter

Featured Replies

Sad. The kid has to be embarrassed. All the parents did was take a simple mistake - one of MANY during a game - and turn it into a story.

If I'm the school system I have to have someone prove to me that this man deserves to lead young men.

PHS coach threatens sports editor - News - Parsons Sun

Maybe I missed something. I had to have.

The reporter had a tweet about a bad snap. The coach and wife confronted him over it. The reporter had to have said something else. Like, called them fat or ugly or stupid. Or spit on them.

But, seriously, who behaves that way? I stared at my phone for a minute or two after reading that article. Just baffled by people.

My first thought is how did the player even know about the tweet during the game in order to get upset? Second thought is the assistant coach needs to be gone.

How does the Mom know the tweet "upset" little Johnny. It was during the game. Did he read it or did Mommy go down to the bench and tell him that the media made a negative comment? I mean seriously!

Wow!

Sorry 75, thinking the same!

The asst coach needs to step away from the game if he reacts like this when his son is involved. Their wasn't anything malicious in the tweet at all and it simply explained what happened. If the coach gets that upset over something so stupid then he really needs to step away from coaching. Shoot, my son was taking the place of the long snapper on his college team because the regular long snapper was hurt and wasn't going to be back for 4 weeks (this week he is finally back YAY!) My son hated long snapping because he never did it before. He had about 15 snaps in the 4 week period with a couple that were low but the punter still got the kick off, but last week he launched one over the punters head and out of the endzone which resulted in a safety, no one was upset about it. It's part of the game. So if this coach has a problem with a reporter reporting what has occured in a game then he needs to find a new hobby.

:thumb: Great minds.....

This is one of the most bizarre stories released about a parent getting upset.

Great point about how the kid even saw it. Second point is what is the mom doing on the field to get close to the news member?

Third is, if the kid can't take the heat from being pointed out for a mistake that happened in the game.. maybe sports isn't for him.

Either way just a strange scenario. Maybe we can put that guy on the "Coaching Bad" show on Spike.

Where and when did this take place ?

Pittsburg, KS

Wow. That's part of the game.

I had a bad snap mentioned one time. Something along the lines of "The Colonel offense was flawless in the second half outside of one fumbled snap."

My buddies gave me crap for it, but at least I made the paper!

First, football and many coaches are high intensity, it's a given. It is obvious there is a history here with the sports reporter and his prior reports/tweets so I think the really tame tweet was just an excuse to read the riot act to the sports reporter. I'm sure someone was monitoring the guy's tweets in order to tattle-tale on this sports reporter because of the past "history". Coach should have talked to sports reporter or had someone else talk to reporter about his dissatisfaction of his team's coverage obviously long before it escalated to the threat. And maybe the coach did and the sports reporter continued in the manner that the coach was dissatisfied with, who knows? Should the coach have gotten in the man's face? Maybe not but sometimes you just have to call a man out when diplomacy (and I don't know if it was attempted by the coach or not) just doesn't work.

You don't want to help embarrass a kid, they're pretty good at doing it on their own. I guess where folks have a problem and especially parents of players is when they are "called out" in the media as having done something wrong. Hey, welcome to the real world son. However, if this sports reporter always goes over the top at criticizing a kid's play, then that is a problem. Just my two cents.

With all due respect to you NKY-Sub I have to disagree. This is routine on some sidelines or outside some locker rooms after games, or in a coach's office. Sad but true. It is still fairly rare, but not as much as you might like to believe. Coaches, reporters, heck, I once saw a guy on a chain crew get physically assaulted because he "caused" another guys son to not get a crucial first down in a game they lost by 30!! But seriously, this would all stop if there were stricter gun laws . . .

Nope, sorry. Sometimes it's that simple. Parents overreact. Some of them wildly so. The reporter didn't even mention the kid by name; just the punter.

I don't know about where you're at, but everywhere I go to games, parents come out on the field afterward and listen to the coach's postgame speech, then gather up with their kids on the field.
