MrKnowitAll Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Nothing official but people from the community of Inez are saying Shawn Hager has been let go as head football coach at Sheldon Clark High School.
NKY Bandit Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Unusual move for a long term coach to be let go during the season, isn't it?
ATLCat Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Feel bad for Hager is true and there isn't anything more to it than W's and L's. Hager has been dealt a tough hand the past 3 or 4 years. - Martin County's economy has tanked probably more than any other place in KY - The school is literally falling apart - Their talent pool has dipped right as the talent pool at all the local schools around them has surged - They have played a schedule that is tougher than the average team
MrKnowitAll Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 Looks like small town politics at its best. A local Board Member who writes for the local newspaper has taken pictures of a dirty locker room and has talked the puppet Superintendant into getting rid of Hager. All this is from third party sources but they are reliable members of the community. Sad day for anyone who is or ever was a Cardinal.
Deimos Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Just heard the news, haven't heard the reason. My senior year was Hager's first year as head coach. The man has done a lot for youth sports in this county and has always been known as a good man. Sad day. I'm honestly shocked.
lawildcat Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 There has to be something to this. Coaches don't get fired during the season for a dirty locker room.
Watusi Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 They are looking for a reason, and ATL said it boils down to W's and L's. Hager is a good guy who has been fighting an uphill battle. I hate to see them let him go like this as the timing is horrible. I feel for those kids too. Who will step in as the new coach? An assistant as interim?
CBDV Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Nothing to do with football or teaching and all to do with politics.
NKY Bandit Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Maybe they think they can lure a certain interim coach away from Taylor County.......
plantmanky Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Maybe they think they can lure a certain interim coach away from Taylor County....... They tried, he said no from what I hear.
NKY Bandit Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 They tried, he said no from what I hear. Said no to the interim this year or the FT gig next year?
ATLCat Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Belfry has been the pinnacle program in EKY over the past decade.. During that time frame Hager has defeated Belfry 3 Times. The only other coaches to match that feat: 1. Ty Scroggins- Louisville Central 2. Jim Matney- Johnson Central He is also a very good baseball coach and can coach wrestling. Someone is going to benefit from the error of the SC administration on this one

If it truly is about wins and losses, why fire him two games into the season -- and especially coming off a victory? Doesn't add up.
