I understand, from the outside of course, the contributions of Coach Weinrich but is this the type of job to give a first time head coach? By no means am I trying to say anything negative, it just would seem to be a big step up for someone that has not been in that position before.

I would think that if you name a defensive coordinator co-head coach and tthen pass him over, you will be looking for a new head coach and coordinator if you are looking to hire from within. If you hire from outside, then you risk messing w a proven formula., especially if that coach wants to bring people from his old staff. Hiring Weinrich makes sense in too many ways.

The key to this hire is that the administration would want the person to be in the school system for sure. Since Coach Mueller is staying on as a teacher, his position will not be open. The last time a coach was hired from outside the system it certainly did not start and/or end well. Brian Weinrich will be the next head coach at HHS and you can take that to the bank for certain. Questions will be who stays on the staff and who if anyone might be added. Will he stay working with the defense and Coach Lynch take over as offensive coordinator? Will Scott Turner stay on board now that Scottie will be graduating this year? These are the real questions more so that who will be the next coach IMO. Understand that the uniforms will be changing next year which is an early indication that things will not necessarily be status quo. Highlands won state championships before Dale and they will win them after Dale. His legacy is that he took an already successful program and brought it up a few notches so that others now want to try and do what Highlands does. Brian's job will be to continue to raise the bar by being proactive and continuing to think outside the box so that he can always stay one step ahead of the competition.

Well said and totally agree. I know most will stay on but I wouldn't mind seeing a few changes. I know most would agree.

I also have a great pic of the epic tirade. It was classic.

I would go with Weinrich, May not have any experience as a head coach. However, worked closely long enough, with Coach Mueller to be an excellent and capable replacement. Would make for a much smoother transition for the returning players and program as a whole.

It is not a peewee football job. They did have a janitor retire though.

My guess is there will be a low number of applicants due to the foregone conclusion that the job is already filled.

The more chatter I hear around town, the more I agree with you on BOTH accounts.

Then who will handle the defense because apparently there needs to be some adjustments there. Will they 2 platoon or play the best athletes in the right spots to assure they have their best 11 out there most of the time.

 

It seems they may need to move a couple of DL's to the offensive side of the ball as that area will be severely lacking next season. Kyler Dalton seems to be the only returning lineman who saw significant playing time on the offensive side.

Highlands defense was not good so they are going to hire their DC to be HC? I would look some where else.
