Some of these picks are a little mind boggling to me. There a player who never played a down on the defensive side of the ball on the honorable mention defensive list.

I mean, the AP selected him as a Mr. Football finalist yet he was not good enough to make 1st or 2nd team.

My Mayfield Cardinals are very well represented, that is always a good thing!

I'm in your camp here as I think he should be on the 1st or 2nd team, but you should consider for the bolded above that 1 voter nominated him for Mr. Football, not a concensus. Plus there likely are only 20 voters total for this thing and if none of them are anywhere near much less even know where Johnson County is, then they would likely vote first for the guys closer to them. Not sayin it's right, but what is likely the case. Terrific talent. I don't even think JC used him all that well for the State Championship game, but heck they had so many guys it didn't matter.

To play Devil's advocate... Blanton is hard to judge when pigeon holing him solely at one position. The beauty of Blanton is he was a jack of all trades guy who was excellent at everything.That's why I think you see him make the All-BGP team as an Athlete.

He may not be a First or Second Team guy solely as a WR or DB (though if I had a vote it would be mighty hard not to at least list him on 2nd Team on my ballot)... but when you look at the picture of him being a WR/DB/KR/Occasional QB/ST he is without a doubt on the short list of the best players.

Good for the kids who got named but like has been said above some real head scratching.

How Branden Leff running back from Spencer County is not on this list is somewhat confusing. He led 4a in rushing 1812 yards 15 touchdowns. 4200 career rushing yards. 4A district 4 POY, member of BOB team.

Leader rusher in 5A, and 5A district POY, Hunter Perdue, is not on the list either. 1918 yards and 23 TDs.

Amen to that one also! You could make a case for both of those kids to be on the 1st two teams.

You can't put too much stock into all these all state team lists. Too many kids get left off that should be on them every year. It seems more like a popularity contest than anything.
