Trinity climbs to No. 1

In this year of uncertainty atop the RivalsHigh 100, we've decided to go with the one thing we’re certain of when picking the new No. 1:

To date, Louisville (Ky.) Trinity has been the most complete team in the country.

Its offense is spectacular, putting up ridiculous numbers with juniors Travis Wright, James Quick and Dayln Dawkins behind an offensive line that boasts five seniors.

The defense is solid, too. It is led by a stud on the defensive line, Jason Hatcher, and Ryan White in the defensive backfield.

The schedule is strong, with wins over four out-of-state teams that could be in line to challenge for state titles.

And then there's this: The others under consideration have some big uncertainties.

No. 2 Armwood: It is right there with Trinity, but will it ever get healthy? And will that continue to limit the offense enough to hurt them in the Florida playoffs?

No. 3 Gaffney: The team talent level in South Carolina is weaker than last year and there are no resume building wins to justify a move up.

No. 4 Bishop Gorman: Has all the pieces on both sides of the ball. It also has a three-point home loss to Armwood.

No. 5 Miramar: Has knocked off St. Thomas Aquinas and has an explosive offense and a so-far solid defense but it is far from a straight line to a state title.

No. 6 Don Bosco: Has climbed to the top spot twice, but its offense is uninspiring and does not have the look of a national title team right now.

Will this all change? Who knows. But long-time followers know we constantly reevaluate our selections.

For now, though, Trinity will line up at No. 1. That much we're certain of.

As you know, at RivalsHigh it’s not if you win, but how you win – and who you beat – that counts.

Share your thoughts.

Team City State Record Pvs.

1 Trinity Louisville KY 9-0 2

Trinity makes its way to No. 1 as the team that has been the most complete from the first kickoff through October. There is still a lot of football to be played however.

2 Armwood Seffner FL 9-0 4

Armwood was as impressive on defense as any team in the country in its 21-0 shutout over now-No. 70 Plant. The offense needs to get healthy for a playoff path that will likley include now-No. 31 Miami Central.

3 Gaffney Gaffney SC 10-0 3

The 49-20 is a deceptive final as Northwestern scored two touchdowns against second teamers in the fourth quarter. The loss of Shaq Davidson allowed the Indians to focus on the ground game.

4 Bishop Gorman Las Vegas NV 10-1 5

Gorman throttled another in-state roadblock but beating Bonanza, 56-0. This team could have been on the No. 1 line had it beaten Armwood earlier this year.

5 Miramar Miramar FL 8-0 6

The Patriots will play Western on Monday after rain postponed its game.

6 Don Bosco Prep Ramsey NJ 7-0 1

Stock Falling: While the 45-0 win over Paramus Catholic looks the part of not sliding down if this is the Iron Men offense in mid-season form it leaves a lot to be desired.

7 Warren Central Indianapolis IN 11-0 7

Warren Central navigated out of the second round of the playoffs with a crushing 61-14 win against Arsenel Tech. Hope it knows the showdown with now-No. 32 Carmel will not be as easy.

8 Camden County Kingsland GA 9-0 8

The playoffs can not get here quick enough for Camden. The team is not gaining anything by beating Johnson, 55-0.

9 Katy Katy TX 9-0 9

Katy continues its grip on the top spot in Texas with a 52-14 win over Taylor. Brooks Haack continues to impress.

10 Good Counsel Olney MD 9-0 11

The Falcons continues its flirting with the Top 10 in the nation. This week it beat O'Connell 54-19 by rushing for over 400 yards. The team is averaging over 200 yards on the ground per game.

I love this. Congrats Trinity.

Everybody on BGP knows I'd give almost anything to see Trinity play Armwood.

Armwood has only allowed 29 points since the 20-17 winning opener at Las Vegas Bishop Gorman and that includes a TD and a 2pt conversion late in the game by Hillsborough High week before last. They shut out Plant for the second straight year last week.

As far as the injuries, both Daryl Richardson (QB) and Matt Jones (RB) are back. However, Alvin Bailey more than proved he was a capable fill-in for Richardson. Besides, with that defense, you only need a little offense.

As for the playoffs, the Hawks have a burr in their saddle after the performance in the finals against Tallahassee Lincoln last year. The 6A bracket will be a doosy this year.

BTW, for those that don't know, this year, Florida eliminated classes 1B and 2B and restructured the classes 1A through 8A. Armwood was in 4A last year as was Lincoln. Plant High was in 5A last year and is in 8A this year.

The Rocks jumped Don Boscoe today in the The Rivals100 poll. They are indeed the best Ky team ever. If you get a chance you should go see them play cause seeing is believing. The Rocks are really special!:thumb::clap:

They are indeed very very good. From the looks of the remaining teams in KY that have a shot at them, really no one legit that can come close. With that said, if they were to get upset, then what? Because they will be such a favorite in Ky., not winning State will not only lose their National Title crown but Best ever crown. Even from their own camp.

When a school wins the mythical national championship, do they actually receive any type of trophy, banner, ring, etc? Just curious because I have no idea how that works.

I think they get mythical rings, banner and trophy. Honestly, I don't know.
