  1. I don't know about anyone else but I believe the top half looks pretty weak. Who ever comes out of the 7th region should walk to the Championship Saturday night. The bottom bracket is stacked in my opinion, especially the last session Thursday night. The winners of those games will not have it easy in the quarter finals and the Semi-final game will have more than likely a 10th or 11th region team playing who ever comes out of the 9th. No where for these teams to catch their breath.
  2. I hate to see something like this happen. More than anything I would call it poor scheduling on Hart County's part. At this time in the year teams need to be hitting their stride to make a run in the post season and a game like this is not going to help anything. Good luck to both teams from here on out.
  3. This is interesting considering that Scott Co.'s gym and Montgomery Co.'s are nearly identical. Both are top notch facilities. I can't wait to see Montgomery Co.'s gym fill up, it hasn't experienced its first big game yet.
  4. It doesn't matter if Mason Co. was at the bottom of the region and had never won a title, hosting the region at the same regional school each year can not be justified. No one argues the tradition at the Fieldhouse and that tradition should continue EVERY TIME IT IS THEIR TURN TO HOST THE TOURNAMENT. Every other region in the state that doesn't have a neutral site experiences years where a smaller school hosts the regional tournament...it is the only justifiable way IMHO.
  5. What constitutes a great coach? 20 win seasons or Championships? Not trying to start anything by any means. I'm am just curious in the point of view. Credible arguments could be made for both. Montgomery Co. just has 20 win seasons with a lonesome Regional Title in 95'.
  6. This was a good game. Barren Co. has a solid basketball team and they made Montgomery Co. pay for every mistake in the first half shooting over 70% from the field. The lady Indians outscored Barren Co. 37-15 in the 3rd quarter and never looked back. Great game and best of luck to both teams.
  7. Maybe they should take a look at the girls schedule. That one seems to be loaded from top to bottom. The lady Indians could have a good season and barely be over .500!!!
  8. I saw this Notre Dame team in Mt. Sterling a few weeks ago. The game was sloppy as it was both teams opener. Notre Dame has a lot of talent on the team and just enough of a bench to keep players fresh. The Pandas look like they have all the components to make a run at a good Boone County team in the 9th.
  9. Kids dunking in wormups isn't because of low rims. The floor in Montgomery County's new gym is a floating floor I think is what they call it. The floor has a lot of spring in it. It is also easier on knees and ankles in the long haul.
  10. You never know what will happen with a young team. Looks like the Indians have another tough schedule this year!
  11. I have been on the top and the bottom of some pretty big blowouts and there were a lot that could be prevented. I believe a coach can only do so much. The coach can sub and call off the press but I believe that is about it. I don't believe at any time that a coach should tell his/her players to quit playing hard, playing defense, and taking shots. I know someone is on the losing end but how would a player feel that never got to play and the coach told them not to shoot. Other then subbing, pressing, and scheduling (when possible) the coach shouldn't do anything else IMO.
  12. I agree with alot of this deerhunter but I think that 5% of the time that Mason Co. wouldn't have won it on the road make it worth rotating. There are kids that dream of going to Rupp and that 5% chance may be all it takes just once.
  13. There are some pretty old gyms sitting around Letcher Co. since the consolidation. A lot of history down in those parts of the 14th region. Whitesburg vs. Fleming Neon used to be one of the fiercest rivalries i've ever seen. Even on the girls side you couldn't find a seat. I can remember my father shoveling coal into the furnace below Whitesburg's gym before practice throughout the winter.
  14. I would have to put Jerome Givens from Woodford Co. up there as far as raw quickness.
  15. I have played in the Fieldhouse many times. In fact it has just been a few years since I graduated. Anyone who says that it does not make a difference whether you are at home or on the road is badly mistaken. This also applies to traveling 30 min. as apposed to 1 hr. and 30 min. It really makes me laugh when someone says that it is ok for a competing school to host a Regional Tournament each and every year. There are other facilities in the state that are as nice as the Fieldhouse believe it or not. These facilities don't host their regions every year so why should the 10th be any different. I do not want this to sound like I am anti Mason Co. because I am not. Even as a player I was also a fan of their 2003 and 2004 teams, no one could touch them. I just believe that it is time for a change.
  16. I am still trying to figure out why this subject is still a debate. This is not about travel time, it shouldn't be too much about gym size, and along with a lot of other things in life it shouldn't be about money. Montgomery Co. has built a facility that is not equal by any means but comparable at least to the Fieldhouse in Maysville. No one is saying that Montgomery should host the region every year or even every other year. A rotation of some kind has to be established in the Tenth Region. Some years money will be down due to attendance capacities but that is the price you have to pay. This is about fairness to all the teams and districts involved.
  17. Impressive win for the Royals. Every win is just another round of experience for this team of underclassmen. Once again congrats and keep representing the 10th like you have for the last five years.
  18. Looks like Dickie Adams finally gets over the hump in this one. LCC gets revenge for the homecourt loss to BHS on their senior night. I think I would gladly give up one on senior night to take the region in the end!!!:thumb:
  19. I know that it is early but i just figured that I would start a thread specifically for this game next week. It seems that both threads talking about the 9th and 10th regional championships have gotten on this subject already.
  20. We are going to have two girls' basketball coaching legends in a showdown Thursday night. John High and Nell Fookes are no strangers the the Girls' Sweet Sixteen. This all happening with an oppurtunity for the winner to matchup against Donnie Gray and his Clay Co. Tigers. Three of the top H.S. girls' coaches in the state and all-time wins leader Howard Beth in the opposite bracket. Should be a pretty good week of basketball.
  21. If this game isn't played in the Fieldhouse the Royals probably miss a three or a few more free throws which would also make this game a different story. I'm not saying that the best team didn't win because I wasn't at the game. I just don't agree with your reasoning.
  22. Any thoughts on how this game may play out tonight at the Fieldhouse?
  23. Everyone on these sites that defend the Fieldhouse talk about seats and parking. When is the last time someone was in Mt. Sterling. There is more parking there than in Mason Co. McNabb is right next door and the new church has a lot of parking. This isn't about all of that though. It is about giving the regional teams a fair shake where ever the location. No one can justify that a regional participant hosting the region each and every year is fair to everyone involved.
  24. Great game at the Fieldhouse tonight. Indians lead most the way and a late surge comes up short for the Lady Royals. Bishop Brossart and Montgomery Co. tomorrow night at 7:30. The Indians have to be the clear cut favorite. They will have to learn from Paris and not take the Mustangs for granted to defend their crown.
  25. Often times on threads I see people talking about how it is wrong to run the score up on teams. I am unclear on when this point comes in a game. I agree that it is not right to embarass an opponent by any means, but whose job is it to throw in the towel. To me if my team is getting beat miserably I would expect my coach to send in his/her scrubs before the team with the lead does. This is like throwing in the towel. You don't expect a boxer beating the crap out of an oppenent to stop hitting, same way with basketball. I see a lot of games when a team is getting beaten badly and the team getting beat still has three or four starters in the game in the closing minutes, but after it is all over the coach the picks up the "W" is criticised for the score. I was just wondering what others thought were on this matter.
