  1. Obviously too late to add an opponent for Rockcastle County this week but it does appear Ballard Memorial, Doss, and Mayfield have October 6 open and don't have a full ten-game slate.
  2. Me too. Thought the Golden Lions looked more comfortable last week than in Week 1. Getting Simmons back closer to full strength is a big deal for Garrard. They appeared to ration his carries last week but he looked pretty strong running the ball.
  3. I wouldn’t think so, especially since they play Raceland next week. If anything changes ranking wise it wouldn’t be until then.
  4. They've played two others times before that, with Paris beating Hazard 53-39 in 1989 and 21-6 in 1990. Hazard leads the all-time series, 3-2.
  5. Tough schedule for Bryan Station but the lack of offense is a bit concerning. I think Bowling Green gets this one by a similar score as your predicted.
  6. The more I think about it, the more RPI and the playoff bracket could have a huge effect on how the Class 6A title race plays out.
  7. I think the class is much stronger this year than it has been in several years. I also think Pikeville is still head and shoulders above everyone in the class.
  8. An under-the-radar marquee game this week. I think it comes down to the wire.
  9. This is my worry about LCA as well. I know their first two opponents are absolute monsters but 99 points in two games is a big number. I'm comfortable with them where they are currently ranked but wouldn't be surprised if they won it all in December.
  10. Rarely has getting home field advantage in the playoffs been a bad thing for Mayfield.
  11. I think so, too. I may be wrong but it feels like they are inching a little closer to the "next level" (whatever that is), something that has always been something of a glass ceiling for them. I'm intrigued by the Gators.
  12. I always forget about those first two years in 6A.
  13. As many of you know, I've spent a lot of time researching high school football history in the state of Kentucky. One thing that always catches my eye is stadium names. Often they're named after the school or mascot, perhaps they have some type of corporate sponsor, but quite often it is named after a person. I've been involved with Garrard County in central Kentucky for many years and their stadium (Dyehouse Stadium) was named after former coach Coy Dyehouse, who played at old Lancaster High School and Western Kentucky University before returning to coach Lancaster High from 1947-60 and Garrard County High from 1966-68 before his untimely death at the end of the 1968 season. My question is, who is your stadium named after and why? And if it isn't named, who do you think it should be named after?
  14. Lots of new faces in Class 3A this season so its a little hard to judge at this point. I think CAL is definitely the favorite but I don't really know how they stack up to LexCath (4A state quarterfinalist last year; beat Boyle) and Central (always a tough schedule and always good). Then you've got Bell and Belfry who have been near the top of the heap in 3A for some time. Bell seems really strong; Belfry may be a step back compared to some of their past teams because of youth and some lost transfers. After that it really is a hodgepodge of teams like Hart, Union, Franklin-Simpson, Glasgow, Mercer, maybe Clay County and Fleming County. Perhaps some others. I believe Lloyd is ranked right about where they should be ranked, but like you, I don't really know how to compare them with those above them just yet.
  15. Neck and neck with Glasgow, I would say. They've been much better than I was expecting in their first two games.
  16. Hands tied? Maybe on scheduling, but from the outside looking in FCPS swung the door wide open on day one for them to be the best team in the county and compete for state titles.
  17. Well, my cup now runneth over, although with Garrard's game getting pushed back to Saturday, I now know where I'll be tonight. Oh well, what might have been!
  18. I'm interested to see how this one turns out. Two teams that could be on the verge of the top ten in their classes.
  19. I think this Clay County team is pretty good.
  20. Good to see the rebuilt Bellevue team competing. Here's hoping for positive results in the future!
  21. If my numbers are correct, I'm showing 110 schools with natural grass and 111 schools with turf (I'm not counting Newport Catholic, Covington Holy Cross, or WEB DuBois because they don't have their own stadium). This would be the first year in state history where there are more turf fields than grass.
  22. I'll add, this question was strictly selfish on my part. I would like to go to a game at a stadium I've never been to on Saturday but I've been to every one that's currently showing on the schedule! 😂
  23. Agreed. I had seen a post from Jason Frakes at the Courier-Journal about some Louisville games maybe being moved to Saturday (he implied more because of officials than weather), but I never heard of any games actually moving.
