Rumors were began circulating last night and this morning, and the Courier Journal is now reporting that Coach Dantzler has stated he "doesn't expect to coach another football game at Central."

This is evidently the fallout resulting from an in-house disagreement at Central after the football team was assessed with a 15 yard penalty in their Friday night game against DeSales due to the school's band playing during game action.

Offensive coordinator Lonnie Oldham is evidently handling things as the interim head coach for the moment.

It's either let the band play whenever they want, or I'm outta here! Lol.

There's no way that's the entire story.

This would be a horrible move for central! Coach Dantzler has done a great job with the program!

Right, crazy to think you would get rid of the coach over the band playing.

If that was truly the reasoning behind it I’m sure Coach Dantzler’s choice of words may have been worthy of a dismissal in some individuals eyes. I only say that because I remember this sort of situation happening in my playing days and let’s just say the ol ball coach got a lil colorful with his language and was clearly heard by everyone within ear distance. Granted we were winning football games so it was a slap on the wrist though I’m sure he caught some fire for it, but we see this happening more often as of late. Have to know your audience and understand there is always someone watching and they may not want what is best for you, just waiting for any moment that you slip up to justify their motives.

Listen, if the Central band doesn’t get to play then I’m not going to watch Central football play. They are one of the best and most unique things about Kentucky high school football.

I can say between the PA announcer & the band, there is a lot of “noise” going on during plays when you play at Central.  I had another statistician say to me a few weeks ago “. I thought they were supposed to stop playing during plays?”

You can also hear the fish grease popping before each play and I love it. Lol.

Can confirm.

This season Cov Cath had Central's PA announcer talking plus their band playing while they were trying to call playcount cadences...we had Highlands' PA announcer talking through the middle of playcounts...and we had Beechwood mom seated front-and-center in the stands out front of their pressbox blowing an impact-driver train horn in the middle of playcounts. All are against official NFHS rules, but this is literally the first time ever that I've personally heard of a football team actually being flagged for anything like that.

Coach Dantzler is a great coach. It would be bad for football in the state if he isn't coaching.

Plus, his son is a really nice junior player at Central also.

I agree with posters who opine that there is likely something else at play here.

I am a huge admirer of the entire Central High School environment. They are the pulse and lifeblood of that downtown community. If Coach Dantzler exploded and was abusive to the band, that is highly inappropriate, but on its own I can’t see it being a dismissal-level offense for an administration that manages the types of day-in, day-out challenges that Central deals with.

The band (and their dance team) is the best I have seen in the State of Kentucky, and it’s not close. True Grambling/Southern U. style performances. On game nights, they line up at the school and march down Chestnut to the field six blocks away, their music reverberating throughout the entire downtown. Very intimidating. Worth a touchdown home field advantage at least. And the fried fish sammiches on the visitor sidelines are elite.

I wasn’t going to go to the first round playoff game against Bardstown, but now I am. Park at the awesome little church behind the field that opens up their lot for a love offering, fish Sammie’s x2, and listen to that drumbeat the whole game.

Almost makes you think people don't like CovCath when you play them.  ?
