Coach Dantzler is out at Central

Couldn't have expressed it any better.  I love going to Central for a big game.  Last time I told myself only 1 fish sandwich but wasn't able to keep it to 1.  Just love the entire atmosphere.

If a player gets a personal foul for unsportsmanlike like conduct it hurts the whole team and the school should be embarrassed and address it with the kid.  If the band director and band gets a penalty on the football team for unsportsmanlike lconduct the school should be embarrassed and hammer the band director. I assume the director is an adult?

It’s not hard to follow the rules regardless of what atmosphere you want. And if you want an atmosphere that violates the rules that's an institutional problem.

the coach admitted he wasn’t perfect but those kids on the field need to know he wasn’t going to stand for the band hurting their team.

If that was truly the reasoning behind it I’m sure Coach Dantzler’s choice of words may have been worthy of a dismissal in some individuals eyes. I only say that because I remember this sort of situat

  • Listen, if the Central band doesn’t get to play then I’m not going to watch Central football play. They are one of the best and most unique things about Kentucky high school football.

I whole heartedly agree with you.  But my post was more about the atmosphere and fish sandwiches ......

Yes!!

It’s up to the AD/game manager to address this issue. If it’s not addressed then eventually the officials will give the offending team a unsportsmanlike penalty. Every coach should have this talk with the AD, and in this instance the band director before the season even starts.

We plan to do a special episode on the podcast with Coach Dantzler to talk about his departure from Central. Will keep you guys posted. We have done OTAs w/ Central since my Mercer County days. Have also worked w/ Coach Dantzler through our KFCA Elected Council. I am a huge Marvin Dantzler fan. He brings fresh ideas to the table from his experiences in other states. He coaches his kids hards but takes great care of them. After our OTA this year, he took the entire team to the movies and to eat.  People don't always see this side of a Coach. I am thankful my path has crossed with his and he will be successful going forward.

I wish the kids at Central the very best as well. I always enjoy our work with their team. Fine young men. Compete hard and do it the right way.

If you want to force your WR's to run great routes and make your QBs have elite ball placement, do 7 on 7 against Marvin Dantzler/Central's man coverage. Excellent. Poor route or poorly placed ball, their DBs just smack the ball down. We are always better after those sessions.

We interviewed Coach Dantzler last night. Will try to get that episode out soon.

Wish he would take a to-be open job in NKY!

I believe he came from Louisiana, yes? It will be interesting to see what his next steps are.

Has a son who is a Jr. and really good football player.  I would think he might just sit back for his son's SR. year somewhere close and then look for long term after next season.

Heard maybe CAL.  But that was just a day or two after everything went down and probably has no merit or was just a guess.

He has been around the block a few times and yes had a great run in Louisiana. With his son being a legitimate player in the Junior class I could see him weighing his son's best options over his own. In hindsight, he could get his son in at Cov Cath, Highlands, Beechwood, and get a feel for what NKY is like. This is all just wishful thinking on my own selfish part though.

Our interview with Coach Dantzler is up. Thought it went well. Chuck and I really want to do a good job w/ our podcast. We reached out for feedback. Some positive. Some critical. All of it can make us better.

A theme that came up more than once was that the Brotherhood we share among Coaches came through. Interesting insight that I agree is present, but take for granted.  Reminded me a little of Coach Saban taking up for Coach Franklin this weekend.

Coach Dantzler will land on his feet and do well going forward. He says he is going to try to be a Dad as well while his son goes through the recruiting process.

After 33 years of being a head coach and watching my Dad as a head football coach, I am a little surprised that tension between the head coach and administration doesn't escalate more often than it appears to happen.
