I assume this means the CovCath/Highlands loser this week will be a road warrior in the playoffs.  Anyone?

Most likely and it is going to be a gauntlet.. CovCath has a strong chance to be guaranteed to be the lowest seed starting Round 3.

For whoever loses I could easily see:

Round 1- Host a pretty tough Boyd County

Round 2- at Johnson Central

Round 3- at Boyle County

Round 4- at Franklin County if they are now the top 1 seed remaining overall

Round 5- Tilghman or whoever beat you in the District.

Ouch and gauntlet is how I would describe it too.  Thanks ATL.

So in terms of predicting matchups:

* Presume that Paducah Tilghman and Logan County advance to region final round.  I believe both are better than any in District 2.

* Absolute lock that North Oldham and Franklin County advance from District 3 & 4, respectively.

* Likely Highlands/CovCath winner advances over Ashland, then a toss-up between Johnson Central and the Highlands/CovCath loser

* Absolute lock that Boyle County and Corbin advance from District 7 & 8, respectively.

That would leave round 3 matchups of:

Paducah Tilghman/Logan County loser at Paducah Tilghman/Logan County winner
North Oldham at Franklin County

If Johnson Central advanced
Corbin at Johnson Central
Highlands/CovCath winner at Boyle County

(I'm presuming that if CovCath wins, it'll be a bump enough to move them ahead of Corbin in RPI, and Highlands is already ahead of them. Although, each plays an out of state team which may hurt.  So possible flip/flop or Corbin and the Highlands/CovCath survivor.  Ironically, Corbin probably wouldn't want that.)

If Johnson Central loses

Highlands/CovCath loser at Boyle County
Corbin at Highlands/CovCath winner

(Though again, it is possible Corbin would end up ahead in RPI of whoever wins District 5)

State semifinals get too tough to predict because of the toughness in the East.  I'm pretty confident Franklin County will be in the state semis, and as RPI stands now, Franklin County would host.  They need that win over Bowling Green at the end of the season. I feel like Paducah Tilghman or Logan County need Boyle County and Johnson Central off the board for them to get a host.  I don't see either losing before end of the regular season to allow them to close the gap.

I don't see Johnson Central losing any to go 10-0 and remain #1.

Lincoln surprises me at #6 and ahead of Highlands.

Boyle with St. X and Douglas.  Highlands with Cov Cath, Elder, and Scott County. Cov Cath with Highlands, and Cathedral, In.   There will be numerous losses between these 3 teams yet to come.  Who knows how The RPI will end up?

Personally I wouldn't want to go to Johnson Central for a 2nd. round game.  Making this weekends game between Cov Cath and Highlands even bigger than it already is.

If Boyle was to lose against Saint X, I wonder how far they would fall in the RPI.

Probably not far if any, since St. X is number 2 in 6A.

Playing and beating three 5A teams certainly helped the numbers for Lincoln. Danville and Estill having winning records in smaller classes probably didn't hurt, either. Besides an upset of Boyle, the Patriots probably don't have many chances to rise much higher.

Third round east likely scenarios:

JC beats Cov Cath: Corbin at JC, Highlands at Boyle

Cov Cath beats JC: Corbin at Boyle, CC at Highlands

The speculation being that CovCath passes Corbin in the RPI prior to the end of the regular season? I am highly skeptical of that.  I think it's much more likely that if CovCath beats JC in the second round that CovCath will end up at Boyle County.

How Are you getting to that? CCH has to pass Corbin in RPI for that to be possible and I don't see that happening. Remember, RPI is based on regular season only. RPI ranking doesn't change in the playoffs.

Round 3 is going to be seeded by RPI. Here is your east side RPI as of this week:

1. Johnson Central

2. Boyle County

3. Highlands

4. Lincoln County

5. Corbin

Cov Cath is 8th behind Boyd County and Ashland.

CCH is almost surely going to play JC in round 2. It is a big if that CCH wins that game IMO but if CCH wins, we go to RPI for round 3. With CCH beating JC, and assuming Corbin beats Lincoln County, the remaining RPI ranked teams in the east are:

1. Boyle Co.

2. Highlands

3. Corbin

4. CCH

That makes round 3 Boyle hosting CCH and Highlands hosting Corbin.
