  1. First district title for Ludlow since 1975, their only other district championship season. I saw the Panthers lose to Dayton and wasn't impressed but they've really turned it on since then winning five straight.
  2. First ever district championship for Atherton.
  3. This is the key for Garrard, in my opinion. Take care of the ball, maximize your own scoring changes, and keep Mercer's offense off the field. Avoid turnovers if you're the Golden Lions and maybe get a couple from Mercer would help, too.
  4. Winner here avoids a likely long trip to Union County in the second round. Lots riding on this one.
  5. This is my thought, too. Knox Central has scored on just about everyone while Rockcastle has allowed quite a few points to the good opponents on the schedule. I could see this one being a little closer than your prediction, especially being played at Knox. I'll say Rockcastle County 49 Knox Central 32.
  6. I thought that might be the case. Pulaski has played a very solid schedule (Pikeville, Corbin, Woodford, plus district games) and their competitiveness has been a mixed bag. It just feels like Southwestern is the better club this time around.
  7. Probably not a game much of the state will be talking about, but this should be one of the premier games in the commonwealth tonight. I'm really excited to see how it plays out.
  8. Huge game tonight. Winner would get a home playoff game and will host the loser of tonight's Logan County/Warren East game. I think the District 1 team would be favored, but I'd much prefer playing at home. The loser of the John Hardin/Nelson County game will have to travel in the first round, playing at the winner of the Logan/Warren East game.
  9. Assuming Franklin County beats Western Hills, tonight's Shelby County/Henry County game will be huge. If Shelby wins there will be a three-way tie between Shelby, Spencer, and North Oldham, which RPI would break. If Henry wins, Spencer would be the 2-seed, North Oldham the 3, Henry the 4, and Shelby County would be on the outside looking in.
  10. Really liked this one. I think it would make a good period piece movie.
  11. I think every team ranked 4-10 is capable of beating and being beat by each other. I trust Belfry more than any other team in that group. I don’t believe any of them can beat CAL, LexCath, or Central.
  12. Caverna clinched their first district championship since 1985 and only the second in school history. Caverna is one of the smallest football playing schools in Kentucky and has had their share of struggles over the years. However, their improvement has been noticeable at the middle school level and now at the high school. The Colonels won first round playoff games in the old Eight-Man system during the early 2000s but will be looking for their first ever playoff win when the postseason starts in a couple of weeks. Congratulations to the Colonels!
  13. It seems like North Laurel is wasting a very good defense with their inability to score on offense.
  14. Two old "46th District" schools if you want to get really old school!
  15. Fifth loss this season by a touchdown or less for East Jessamine.
  16. For people more in the know in Class 1A, how might this Campbellsville team compare to the Russellville team from two years ago that no one really talked about but gave Pikeville all they wanted before ultimately falling by three points in the state final?
  17. Starting to click a little bit. I thought winning at Rockcastle County last season was a good first step for the team and Coach Crutchfield in his first season. A home playoff game in year two is another positive step for the program. They'll be an underdog against Mercer next week but it will be interesting to see where they stand. I'm excited for it.
  18. Following on Twitter it sounded like an exciting game. Congratulations to DeSales and Mike Jackson, who definitely has the rebuild going in the right direction. I'll add, I'm always happy to see some of the lesser-known JCPS schools have success and J-town seems to be on the right track.
  19. Douglass is the 14th best team in Class 6A because the KHSAA can't find out what Archbishop Hoban and Indianapolis Cathedral's records are. That is far from accurate and that's the one with playoff implications.
  20. Which I believe proves the point that the RPI, while perhaps more transparent and without a starting number, is still extremely flawed when a team like Douglass is being punished for playing an extremely tough schedule.
  21. In your opinion, which set of rankings are more accurate as of today in Class 6A: Calpreps Trinity Male Douglass Manual St. Xavier Bryan Station Ballard Bullitt East Ryle PRP KHSAA/RPI Manual Male Bullitt East Bryan Station Trinity St. Xavier Simon Kenton Ballard PRP Ryle
  22. I think the Mercer/Lloyd comparison is a fair one. In Mercer's case, they've played one really good team (Southwestern) and were blown out and one solid team (Taylor County) and won. Lloyd has only played one solid team (Newport Central Catholic) and they won, although I'd definitely rank both Southwestern and Taylor ahead of Mercer. I'm of the belief of two things regarding Class 3A: We'll know a whole lot more about Lloyd after their game with Lexington Catholic this week. I wouldn't be surprised if they fall out of the top ten completely if they lose big. Of course they could also be competitive or even win. Every team ahead of Mercer keeps winning. Union, Franklin-Simpson, and Hart are all undefeated and have played good ball. It would be hard to put Mercer in front of them. Rockcastle has a win at Bell and I'm not sure I'd pick Mercer to win at Bell (which means Bell should stay ahead of Mercer). And the top four (CAL, LexCath, Central, and Belfry) each seem a tier ahead of those teams 5-10. Bottom line, Mercer is good, but they're kind of caught up in a logjam.
