The Rams and 49ers are playing a game in Australia and my guess is opening weekend, so I'd drop them. The NFL rarely does a Super Bowl rematch so I'd drop the Patriots. I doubt the Cardinals or Chargers are appealing enough for the opener. The Chiefs are very appealing but will Mahomes be available? That might be a risk the league doesn't want to take. My guess it's one of the Cowboys, Bears, or Giants. Cowboys, because they always draw eyeballs. Bears because of their success this year and large fanbase. And as a wildcard the Giants, who have a huge following and John Harbaugh as their new coach.

First four minutes were good. Immediately sub in five backups, Ament goes off, Kentucky never got back into it. Free throws and missed shots haven’t helped but I’ll never understand Pope’s rotations.

Good win for the Lions, two nights in a row. Might have a better read on the postseason scenarios in the 45th after tonight’s Boyle/Lincoln game.

What I love about Chuck Klosterman, whether I agree or disagree with him, is that he always makes me think.

Danville was up 5 with 2 minutes left. Garrard got a three, Danville hit 1-of-2 from the line, then the Lions' freshman Ryan Noe hit a three to tie it with 20 seconds left. Danville attempted to run a play to win, but Garrard stole the ball beforehand then ran a play for Sam Montgomery who scored a layup with 2 seconds to go to make it 57-55.

Bell County played very well in the first half. Took a small lead to halftime but Central really shot it well in the third quarter and methodically moved the lead out to the final score. I think Central's size and style wore on Bell as the game went along and the Bobcats were a step slower in the late third and fourth quarter, which also showed on some short shots and weak passes. That said, I was impressed with Bell County and especially the freshman Ferguson from Bell County. I don't know if they're better than North Laurel but that will be an interesting matchup next Saturday. As for Central, this was my first time seeing them this year. They foul a lot (more than gets called) but they are very solid. I thought Feldhaus really settled into a groove in the second half after Bell through several different types of defense on him early. Biggest question from just one game is the Indians only played six kids tonight; what happens if the whistle is tight in the region and they have to go down the bench? No matter what, though, they'll be an extremely tough out in the 11th.

So I've been critical of Garrison all year but he played really well tonight. Probably his best overall game in two years in Lexington. That rebound and putback was the icing on the cake tonight.

It wasn't that far back, Professor! They both played in the 2013 state tournament, but not against each other. There were 20,172 people at Rupp for the semifinals when Montgomery lost to Ballard and Madison Central beat Hopkinsville. Madison Central was part of another huge crowd in the Friday afternoon session in 1999 when Marquis Estill and Kenneal "The Highlight Reel" Jenkins lost to Rick Jones, Scott Hundley, A.W. Hamilton and Scott County, 80-67. The attendance was 23,965 which I believe is still the record for a single session at the state tournament.

Tough back-to-back for Lyon County after having beat both Newport and Caverna to win the All "A" on Sunday.

With pitchers and catchers reporting in two weeks, I guess a split-squad doubleheader makes sense?!

Felt like a good candidate for a "play it at Lindsey Wilson" that has happened several times over the years, including a couple Mayfield/Corbin games.

I think there was a thought the Arkansas kid might have stepped on the Kentucky player. While the UK technicals seemed unwarranted, there was no consideration a a violent act.

I’m sure he’ll hit a 40-footer to win it, but man DJ Wagner doesn’t do anything, does he? At one point he was considered among the absolute best in his class and now he doesn’t even play much.

Fraschilla just said about Kentucky “the team lost its composure for a bit” and I’m not sure that’s correct at all.

The technical on Dioubate was one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen. Obviously there will be no repercussions but there should be. Completely flipped the game and for no reason.

Four technicals on Kentucky and only Garrison’s seemed legit.

If that’s a technical then everyone will be ejected every game.

As always, literally zero reason for Garrison to ever play. Ever.

You're the first person I thought of when that cancellation popped up! Garrard and Danville, originally scheduled for Tuesday then moved to tomorrow is also now tentatively set for Thursday, February 5.

Yeah, not ideal. Just throwing out possibilities, especially if it got late in the season.
