  1. Agreed. I watched the regular season T/X game in person and X seemed to be a little less athletic than in previous seasons. Their makeup was a little more Wolford than Wallace.
  2. Phoebus is another name for the Greek god Apollo. Maybe going against a one of the pantheon of Olympus was just too much for the early English settlers.
  3. Correct. Ludlow won first round games in 1997 (Paintsville), 1999 (Nicholas County), 2008 (Eminence), 2011 (Eminence), 2018 (Louisville Holy Cross), 2019 (Bellevue), 2020 (Dayton), and this year. However, since the KHSAA moved to 32 teams making the playoffs in 1991, Ludlow had never won a "second round" game until this season. When they won the championship in 1975, only eight teams made the playoffs. Their first round win was against Raceland. The second win came against Elkhorn City but would be considered the state semifinals. Then they beat Heath to claim the state championship.
  4. No. Last year was the first time Hart County had ever won a playoff game when they beat Trigg County in the first round.
  5. Would be just the second meeting ever and first in 31 years. Belfry beat Rockcastle County 21-6 in the 1992 Pike County Bowl.
  6. I like it but the middle is a little big for my taste. I'd scale back the state and logo; maybe set the state edges just outside each three-point line and make the UK in the center roughly the same size as the center circle.
  7. One of the best songs from that era! My son (he's 12) and I blare that quite often around the house or while driving. Great choice!
  8. After a slow start, albeit against some really good teams (Mayfield, Tilghman, Owensboro), Graves seems to be playing really well of late.
  9. Yes, both in the regional final. The 1996 game was down to the wire (23-20), while the 1998 game was a comfortable Beechwood win (29-0).
  10. Fewest wins in a season for Hazard since winning just one in 1944, a shortened season due to World War II. Schedule was brutal but the Bulldogs just never could generate offense.
  11. Thought this would be a good one and it certainly delivered.
  12. This is now in a playoff win in three consecutive seasons (2021 - Ludlow; 2022 - Berea), but prior to that the last playoff win for Dayton came in the second round against Bellevue way back in 1998.
  13. Betsy Layne wins their first ever playoff game after ten previous trips all ended in first round defeats. They also won 10 games in a season for the first time, eclipsing the previous best of 9 wins in 2013. The Bobcats are coached by Jarredd Jarrell, who was a terrific quarterback at Prestonsburg several years back.
  14. After two rounds, the four "western" teams are paired up by RPI (1 vs. 4; 2 vs. 3) and so are the four "eastern" teams. Then for the semifinals, the final four teams are reseeded by RPI (1 vs. 4; 2 vs. 3). It is important to note that RPI locks in after the regular season so a team won't go up or down in RPI during the playoffs.
  15. Not a vintage Pulaski team by any stretch, but the schedule has been brutal. They played Southwestern close two weeks ago. Can they pull the upset next Friday?
  16. Tates Creek was handled easily by their three best opponents (Douglass, Station, Ballard) in the middle of the year, but they've also easily handled all their other opponents. This is a borderline top 10 team in Class 6A, but no higher than 10th.
  17. Jeffersontown is definitely improved from past years. They've scheduled properly, gaining victories and momentum, which will pay dividends in the coming season. They're doing it the right way. That said, I think North Oldham will win by two touchdowns.
  18. What a brutally tough 3-way tiebreaker. I saw all three play and I believe Whitley County was the second best team in the district. Whitley routed Perry, lost a nailbiter to Letcher, and ends up with the 4-seed playing at Boyle.
  19. He's been an assistant there the last two years.
  20. Thought this piece by Dan Wetzel did a great job of highlighting the complicated legacy of Bon Knight. https://sports.yahoo.com/coaching-legend-bob-knight-famous-for-both-victories-and-outbursts-dies-at-83-223223902.html
  21. I’ve long been in favor of 3 teams per district but they’ve allowed the top four for 33 years now so I doubt that will ever change.
  22. I kinda like this idea. Maybe offer the spot to the team with the highest rated RPI that didn’t make the playoffs. Of course that wouldn’t work for 1A or 6A because all of them make it.
