  1. I'm going to Union County at Hart County because I've been to games at those other three places, but if forced to choose I'd say Corbin/Boyle just because it is a game everyone has been wishing to see all season.
  2. I noticed they also released a collection of all the historical segments in one podcast. It's about an hour and a half long. I've listened to the first 30~ minutes and it is wonderful. Highly recommend, especially if you like high school football history.
  3. If everything played out like we mentioned in the previous post, yes. The Raceland/Sayre winner needs two of Country Day, Campbellsville, and Pikeville to lose this week in order to get a home game in the semifinals. That seems like a stretch.
  4. Ludlow has the lowest RPI of any team remaining in Class 1A so a Ludlow victory would still mean a semifinal road trip. If the other favorites won, it would be at Campbellsville.
  5. If Southwestern beats Cooper (and Highlands, Bowling Green, and Owensboro all win), Owensboro would go to Highlands and Southwestern would go to Bowling Green. A Cooper win (and the other three favorites also winning) would send Cooper to Highlands and Owensboro to Bowling Green.
  6. I think Campbellsville wins, especially at home, but that margin does seem a little wide.
  7. Does anyone remember Dixie Heights putting 100 on Newport in 1969? Dixie threw for a touchdown to get their final score in the 4th quarter.
  8. Twice. Lost to Beechwood in 2017 and Pikeville last season.
  9. I've seen Fairdale twice. They have a solid club. Good speed and talent. Not huge across the line. Quarterback is no real threat to throw. I think they can compete for a bit but I suspect this is a running clock in the second half.
  10. If you had asked me last week I'd have said Raceland in a rout, but seeing Sayre dismantle Paris makes me believe the Spartans are better than most think, even if they are undefeated. I still believe Raceland wins by a couple of scores, but it will be an interesting litmus test for where exactly Sayre is in the Class 1A pecking order.
  11. I tend to agree with you on the score. However, comparing the two games might not be the best approach. Corbin/Douglass was earlier in the season and the Redhounds roster was just rounding into shape. Boyle/Douglass was the last game of the season when all the pieces were in place.
  12. One of the most noticeable problems at Newport Central Catholic is their continually declining enrollment. I'm sure that can be blamed on changing demographics, etc. But in the glory days they were always a solid AA school, then still a decent sized 2A school once the state went to six classes. Now they are among the smallest football playing schools in Kentucky. In 2022-23 they had 108 boys, tied with Caverna for 6th fewest and larger than only Phelps, Fulton County, Jenkins, Harlan, and Pineville. Eventually football is a numbers game and it is hard to maintain success without numbers.
  13. They’ve been playing at a high level for about 70 years so I’m not sure that’s issue. However, they aren’t as talented this season as the past few years and Franklin County is very much the real deal. I suspect the Flyers take care of business without much trouble this week.
  14. Planning to go to this one. Hopefully will be a great game.
  15. You don’t think a regular season matchup against a couple better teams would have made last night better? Might they have got a home game with a better RPI? I’m not saying play ten powerhouses, but there aren’t many teams winning late into the playoffs with a schedule like Lloyd played this year.
  16. Good effort by Metcalfe County. I know they lost a lot from last season and the record wasn't great this year, but Harbison does a solid job with the Hornets. They had a handful of close losses early and seemed to be playing much better as the season progressed.
  17. I think they would benefit from adding a couple of games against someone like Beechwood or Dixie Heights. Still local, still good gates, but type of teams you'll have to beat in the postseason in Class 3A.
  18. Mercer County is a very good team, has been very successful, and had some pieces that theoretically matched up decent against Central. But you are correct, Central in November is just another animal entirely. Impressive performance by the Jackets last night.
  19. I think you are correct. I do think we are setting up for a dynamite pair of semifinals in Class 4A.
  20. McCracken has played in the quarterfinals (regional finals) three times, falling to Central Hardin in 2015, North Hardin in 2019, and Male in 2020.
  21. Agreed. I watched the regular season T/X game in person and X seemed to be a little less athletic than in previous seasons. Their makeup was a little more Wolford than Wallace.
  22. Phoebus is another name for the Greek god Apollo. Maybe going against a one of the pantheon of Olympus was just too much for the early English settlers.
  23. Correct. Ludlow won first round games in 1997 (Paintsville), 1999 (Nicholas County), 2008 (Eminence), 2011 (Eminence), 2018 (Louisville Holy Cross), 2019 (Bellevue), 2020 (Dayton), and this year. However, since the KHSAA moved to 32 teams making the playoffs in 1991, Ludlow had never won a "second round" game until this season. When they won the championship in 1975, only eight teams made the playoffs. Their first round win was against Raceland. The second win came against Elkhorn City but would be considered the state semifinals. Then they beat Heath to claim the state championship.
