St. X students injured in bleacher railing collapse at Waggener HS

That is super scary and sad.  I hope everyone is okay and has a speedy recovery.

The comments on Twitter are blaming JCPS facilities for not being safe.  However, no metal fence at any facility would be able to hold the weight of several dozen people pushing it forward, with other people on the other side pulling it down.  The tournament managers and school staff should have been controlling the crowd.  But it was also the end of the game so that they could have been preparing for the trophy presentation and not been at that exact spot of spontaneous celebration.

Glad no one was seriously injured.

Eventually people will learn that those aren’t built to be jumped on, stood on, or leaned on. I know it’s tough with crowds, but the adults in the room need to do a better job of enforcing safety at events.

No Congregating at a high school football game, lol.

Behind the railing. If you're in the bleachers you should be at a seat (standing there is fine).

I also saw that Waggener has moved tonight's football game against Breckinridge County to Seneca High School. I'm guessing Waggener's stadium is out of commission for a bit.

Knew this was coming. Attorneys and accidents go together like peas and carrots.

Makes sense to me and this legal action may end up "saving" others in the future from injury or death assuming the railing was flawed.

This may sound odd but I think students need to be educated about "bleacher safety."  Bleachers are not brick and mortar or steel buildings.   They are not designed for everyone to congregate in the same place.

I agree that it may cause JCPS and others to buy sturdier railings. Also education about them would be good too.
