  1. Totally unexpected. Mustangs score 31 unanswered points in the second, third, and fourth quarters. We still don't know what we have here, but it seems to be getting better. Great showing by our guys tonight. Tyler Smith kicked the winning PK Goal 24 hours ago to propel our SoccerStangs to the 10th Region Championship game on Saturday, and tonight knocked home a 40 yard field goal and 5 PATs. Paris was going for their 19th District Championship tonight, but Brossart got our second (2021 and 2022). More Later.
  2. Sad. I feel really bad for the remaining Bellevue players and especially Coach Brausch, who was so optimistic about generating renewed enthusiasm for the Bellevue program, back when he took the job. Even with limited numbers, he felt that the Tigers could be somewhat competitive by the middle of he 2023 season. Bellevue had Ludlow, NCC, Holmes, and the District 3 Top Seed in their future, if they had chosen to ride it out. You can see where it would be impossible to maintain any enthusiasm to continue to be abused for the next month, with no hope of even a competitive game. This is obviously a major setback. It wasn't that long age, when we were in our infancy (Brossart) that Bellevue was a thriving proud river city school, with a lot of pride in their program, and strong numbers. Hopefully, they will find a way to right the ship and generate interest in the preservation of Bellevue football.
  3. The only reason I can see to like Larkin as manager, is that it would get him out of the TV broadcast booth.
  4. Make no mistake about it, Brossart has led a charmed life this season, despite losing our quarterback, Keegan Gulley, in the first half on opening night. We have won four games by a sum total of 7 points and took a 7-0 loss to Newport in our second game of the season. We ae presently 6-2 on the year and 2-0 in district competition. Both Brossart and Paris are 2-0 in district play and have assured themselves a home regional post-season game. Our district is well balanced with Brossart nosing out both Nicholas County and Bracken County, and both of those teams being competitive with Paris. Paris did give us two of our toughest games last season, despite the second one being played in Alexandria. The Mustangs again host the Greyhounds this coming Friday night at 7:30pm. We will again depend on our defense to keep the high-powered Greyhounds offense in check, and hope that Austin Schadler, who will be starting his fourth game and has had five weeks of practice at the QB position under his belt, will continue to improve and generate enough points in order to win. 5. Tonight another dogfight in the trenches, Brossart scores on a second quarter 66 yard pass play from Austin Schadler to Alex Amin giving the Mustangs a 7-0 lead which stood, until late in the fourth quarter, when the Polar Bears capitalized on a Brossart turnover taking possession of the ball at the Mustangs' 41 yard line and then scoring on a run by the Freshman Dalton Tartar With under a minute remaining in the game, the Bears went for the 2-point extra point, game-winning extra points, which was snuffed out by the Mustangs to preserved the one point 7-6 win. With the win the Mustangs improve to 6-2 and go up 2-0 in District 5, Class 1A play, which will net us a home playoff game on Friday November 4th. Our remaining district seeding game is next Friday at home when the Paris Greyhounds come to call. Bracken County has attempted one kicking PAT this season which was no-good. They go for 2 on every extra point opportunity. They also passed much more tonight than is their norm.
  6. Living a charmed life, and are 2-0 in district play. Very nerve-wracking!!!
  7. Thursday night district seeding football at Rigney Stadium in Ludlow. Newcath with too many weapons, break open a 7-6 early game one point advantage, and run off to the 30 point win. Ludlow had their moments and got several big plays against the District 4, Class 1A, kingpins.
  8. A week ago we traveled to Nicholas County hanging our hat on our defense's ability to keep the Blue Jackets in range, and hoping that we could muster up a few points to win the game. That is exactly what happened. This week the Mustangs return home following a four game road trip that saw us win three of those games by a total of six points. We are hoping that our "charmed life" continues. Substitute quarterback Austin Schadler now has three games under his belt and four weeks of practice. He orchestrated a drive from our own 31 yard line in the waning seconds of the game, to position Tyler Smith for the game-winning field-goal. Again this week we will hitch our wagon to our defense again and hope to hold Dylan Teegarden (138 yards per game) in check and eek out another victory. This game is exceptionally meaningful because a Brossart win will earn us a home playoff game on Friday, November 4th and probably put Bracken County on the bus to either Raceland or Paintsville. The Mustangs own this series 9-2 and defeated the Bears 36-0 a year ago in Brooksville. Game time is 7:30pm. Listen Live at: webca.st/215507
  9. Sumo was the self-appointed 10th Region archivist, particularly in basketball where he had the history of every team and every game played in the 10th Region. I hope that someone carries on his legacy.
  10. Tony Sapp, aka Sumoroyal, was a good and loyal friend. I am privileged to have known him. He was a fixture at the scorers table in the Mason County Fieldhouse, at Royals games and at the 10th Region Tournament. Condolences to his family who all helped out in official capacities with the Royals. Good Man. He will be remembered.
  11. A great team effort win on the road in Carlisle. On paper we looked anemic coming into this one, while Nicholas County hadn't had a close game, averaging 41 a game, but while our Mustangs had offensive outputs of 0, 3, 11, and 10 among our six outings, our defense had also limited our opponents to games of 18, 7, 8, and 9. Our hope coming into this game was that our defense could keep the Blue Jackets in range, and that our makeshift quarterback, Senior Austin Schadler, who had now had a game and two weeks of practice under his belt, might be able to generate enough offense for us to have a chance to win. They did, and he did. In a game which saw 23 possession changes, early on it looked like Nicholas might run roughshod over us, coming up with a 74 yard run by Alex Roeder in their first series, which resulted in a Tate Letcher touchdown. When the PAT was good, the Jackets led 7-0 with little over four minutes expired in the game. That would be the first quarter score. With the Jackets deep in their own territory, Nate Heck intercepted a Letcher pass at the 3 yard line, setting up a Tyler Holtz one yard plunge, and when Tyler Smith split the uprights, we were knotted up at 7s at intermission. There were six possession changes in the third quarter with neither team threatening to score. However in the final stanza, Schadler connected with Sam Willike for a 42 yard touchdown and Smith again added the PAT, giving the Mustangs a 14-7 lead with 5:18 remaining in the game. On the ensuing Nicholas County possession, with a touchback and a 10yard mark off, the Jackets found themselves at their own 10 yard line, 90 yards away from pay dirt., but with 1:59 remaining in the game, when Letcher hit Andrew Watkins for a touchdown, and were successful on a 2-Point conversion, it appeared that the Jackets would dodge the Mustang bullet and remain unbeaten. Brossart took over at our own 31 yard line, and, assisted by a roughing our quarterback 15 yard award, we were able to march the piggy to the 7 yard line where we allowed the clock to run down to 3 seconds, when Tyler Smith, for the second time this season, hit the game winner, this one from 22 yards out and the Mustangs went up a game in the district seeding race. Our Mustangs have now won two walk-off wins and a one point win a week ago. Wins are wins and we are happy to have them. Mustangs improve to 5-2 on the season and will host district foe Bracken County, 14-8 losers to Paris tonight, next Friday night in Alexandria.
  12. Mustangs try our fourth quarterback of the season, pulling Senior Austin Schadler (6-1, 220 lbs) off of the offensive line and insert him into the quarterback position, a spot that he played during JV games his sophomore season. Neither team was able to generate any meaningful offense in the first quarter. Brossart would draw first blood with only 42.4 seconds remaining in the half as Tyler Smith, our socer/football kicker split the uprights on a 29 yard field goal attempt and the Mustangs went to the locker room up 3-0 at the half on Ludlow's homecoming night. In the third quarter, the Panthers orchestrated a 55 yard drive culminated by a 5 yard pass from Jaxon Rice to Andrew Kendall for a touchdown. The PAT was good and we had a new leader with 1:43 to play in the period, but the Mustangs had an answer when Schadler found Nate Schalk on a 44 yard aerial and when Smith knocked the PAT through we took the lead at 10-7 heading to the final frame.. Neither team would do themselves any favors in the final stanza drawing untimely flags. The decisive play of the game may have come when we were backed up into the defensive end zone, and over-snapped our punter out of the end zone for a Ludlow safety with 4:32 remaining in the game, making the score 10-9 Mustangs. A free-kick (actually a kick-off) sent the Panthers back to their own 36 yard line, and were unable to generate a scoring drive and the Mustangs hung on for the single point, 10-9 victory, improving our season record to 4-2 as we begin district play next Friday night at Nicholas County.
  13. Lloyd avenges that 13-8 loss to the Mustangs in Alexandria. a year ago . I was hoping for better on the defensive side. Lloyd broke big play after big play. A bit of a flashback to our 2A days. A little humility (and reality) is good for the soul. Kaiden Zulager scored 4 touchdowns, bringing his season total to 9. Our blue-chip place kicker, Junior Tyler Smith, nailed a 45 yard field goal with room to spare. Back to 1A competition next Friday night in Ludlow. Good luck to the Jggs going forward. The two JV teams will compete at 10am Saturday morning at the MAC in Alexandria.
  14. Happy for the Royals!!! Great season to date.
  15. I believe that the world has lost its "Grand Dame." QEII was elegant, sophisticated, yet somewhat worldly. I actually saw her when she came to Keeneland in 1984. She was the guest of Will Farish who owns Lanes End Farm, and who would later be appointed the US Ambassador to Great Britain. The tall gentleman escorting her in the film clip is Ted Bassett. I believe Ted is still alive. He is well over 100 years old. The Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Race inaugurated that day, is run on an annual basis at Keeneland. I will miss her.
  16. Listen live starting at 6:45pm via the www.bmustangs.com website.
  17. Brossart has played Raceland in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and most recently last year, where we lost to them 48-6 at Raceland. In our first encounter, the game was played at Bob Miller Stadium in Alexandria. We lost narrowly 22-14. since then all of our games have been at Raceland, and they have ended our season by large margins.
  18. If history repeats itself, there will be no need for special parking. Despite this beng a 8pm start, They will be in your lot by 6pm.
  19. Big crowd on hand tonight in Claryville. Longtime Wrestling Coach Mike Bankemper honored at halftime - Well deserved. First half had the feel of a competitive ballgame. Highlands drew off. As an earlier poster stated , Number 87 for Highlands did a job serving as kicker and place-kicker. The Birds quarterback has a super-quick release. It was nice taking in a game simply as a social event.
  20. Bellevue is in an unenviable position. Freshman quarterback, freshman running back and little bench depth. However, the nucleus is in place to build around for the future, and Dave Brauch is the person who can get it done. In speaking to him prior to the game, he felt that the Tigers could be making solid progress by the middle of next season. Short term, it's going to be tough sledding for the River City Tigers. Next Friday they are back on the bus to 3A Magoffin County, located on the Mountain Parkway in Saylerville, Ky.. The Hornets, presently 0-2, defeated Bellevue a year ago at Gilligan Stadium 40-14. In last night's game Brossart scored 42 points in the final 8:40 of the half. Seven different Mustangs scored touchdowns in this game. Derek Martin, Luke Schroeder, Nolan Jordan, Evan Orth, Logan Woosley, Braydon Ketron and Tyler Kreidenweis. The most impressive stat of the evening came from our kicker, Junior Tyler Smith, who was 7 of 7 on PATs and knocked home a 35 yard field-goal. The Mustangs will now embark on a four game road trip which will take us to Thomas More U for a bout with Holy Cross, a trip to Erlanger for a matchup with the Lloyd Juggernauts, to Ludlow, and then a district seeding game in Carlisle versus Nicholas County.
  21. Covid needs to be determined a "way of life" and lets get on with the rest of our lives.
  22. Ever since spotting that Bald Eagle flying over US26 In Alexandria, I pay special attention to see if I can see another one in the same area. While i have not seen any more Eagles, I do see an inordinate number of ducks. I'm wondering if that particular airway, or window is a flyway for migrating birds.
  23. One thing that we have learned from our football experience to date is that there is a big difference between football players and boys who play football. With that said, there are a lot of potential football players in our pipeline.
  24. There is no time table for Keegan Gulley. We will take it a day at a time. He suffered a serious concussion where he was knocked unconscious and required a breathing tube. Since then (last Friday night) he has become coherent, seen a specialist, attended school for a few hours, and was on the sidelines for our football game Thursday night. The good news is that Keegan has vowed to return. When that happens is up to Keegan's parents and the medical community.
