se7ens Posted March 26, 2024 Posted March 26, 2024 This shouldn't come as a major shock. Holmes is at a historic low point and I don't think anyone thought Coach Perkins was going to be able to change it. In fact I think they need to make the right hire or this program could be in danger of a pause in participation. They missed their chance with Ricardo Johnson but I don't think they can afford a miss this time. 2 1
Jack of all Trades Posted March 26, 2024 Posted March 26, 2024 Might Austin Neff be a name for this job? 1

They had a chance to get another alum about 10 years ago and dropped the ball there too! It’s sad to see what the program has become. I hope they find the right coach to make the program relevant again. 1

The first call if I'm the AD needs to be Sam Elsbernd. He's battle tested and earned this chance, and would do great! 4

I am thinking they barely had enough by the end of the year to scrimmage in practice. They have a decent core I think they could build around but the end of the season numbers look really devastating. Could the right coach come in and get those to bounce back? Absolutely. Could the wrong one drive those numbers even further into the danger zone? Absolutely. 1
HSBballfan1212 Posted March 26, 2024 Posted March 26, 2024 First call better be to Ricardo now that he has the experience they can’t pass on him.

Ricardo is not going anywhere, I can assure you of that. Holmes brass had a chance to get him and flat out passed on him. When so many doubted, or simply passed over him for a multitude of reasons, Holy Cross stepped up and gave him a chance and found a diamond in th rough in my opinion. He had a successful first season and came within 5 points of making it to the regionals. He loses 1 senior from the team this year, I'd say he's in a pretty good spot for next season. I know Ricardo well and he was hurt being passed up by the Bulldogs previously and has moved on and building on the success at Holy Cross.

I am an outsider looking in but if I was Coach Johnson this is where I would be too and there is no way I would even listen to Holmes at this point, it would be all Indians, all the time. 1 1

I think that the right person would make a big difference. There are 2 players on Newport's roster that would've been at Holmes with the "right person". I anticipate there being a lot more than that who could help Holmes. 1

Maybe, maybe not because those same players who “may” have went to Holmes could’ve also went to HC had Johnson been at HC when they made that decision. Holmes had their chance and whiffed. I want Holmes to get back to being competitive, I just don’t think it will be with Coach Johnson.

I'd love to see Sam get this job, and I'm sure he's envisioned himself as the HC at Holmes at some point in time. However, despite all that, I'm not sure he'd want this job or if it would be a good idea for him to take this job right now. 1
