  1. I'm REALLY, REALLY sorry to see Orlando leave Calvary. He has done wonders with that program which was a rudderless ship prior to his arrival. We certainly wish him the best in his future endeavors. Good Man! Best of luck to the Calvary program in finding someone as knowledgeable and dedicated to the Cougars as Coach Donaldson going forward.
  2. I put this in the same category of opening the box of your new uniforms. You either love them or hate them, but you are stuck with them either way for the next five years. The bright red does seem extreme, but might be really neat under the Friday Night Lights. We will find out. Our Brossart Mustangs are scheduled back in Ludlow again this season.
  3. Congrats to my friend Woody McMillen in taking over and continuing the fine tradition of Ludlow football. Great guy, will pour his heart and soul into doing a great job with the Ludlow program. We look forward to seeing you on the "Crimson Carpet" in the River City this fall. Lucky Kids!
  4. We are talking primary uniform colors here. Shoes and Mustaches are certainly not primary colors. I have no problem with black as a trim. As a matter of fact, I introduced a black trim to the two basketball programs that I have been associated with. This whole Cincinnati "Connect" thing is nothing but a promotion, no different I guess than the Bengals wearing pure white unis.
  5. Everybody OK with Bell coming on after the Sunday game and basically saying, "Our Bullpen is exhausted. We pitched three guys from AAA knowing that it would not go well for us???""
  6. What is "Connect" Cincinnati??? Obviously a marketing ploy to get into your pockets and abstract money. I object because our team colors are RED and WHITE - Not Black. A few years back we started wearing the solid Red jerseys, which is OK with me since RED is a primary color. Another case of "If it feels good, or if it sells tickets, just go ahead and do it."
  7. Interesting, but I'm sure I heard that we would still be able to play at EKU '24.
  8. The draw affects things other than showing up and playing. Coaches are finalizing their 2023-24 schedules, which are affected by the draw.
  9. The 2024 All "A" Tournament was drawn Wednesday morning at the Athletic Director's Meeting in Cynthiana. Both Boys and Girls Basketball share the same brackets with the Girls game preceding the boys game on the same day/night.
  10. I made what in my opinion is an honest observation. To be perfectly honest the football field n the outfield reminds me of an old song "The Train Runs Through The Middle of the House." IMO a Football Field has no place in the outfield of a baseball field. I understand - Economics, but I don't have to like it. I never said a derogatory word about the effort of the good folks at Campbellsville to host the event. I did say that the players/fans are being deprived of the "Big League" experience that we used to enjoy playing at Applebees. I think that you ae looking way to hard into my post to detect criticism.
  11. OK, Maybe "Abomination" is a strong word. But to me Baseball is baseball, and football is football. I also understand economics and as myself and others have said, It is better than having no baseball field at all. The phrase that comes to mind here is that "A Camel is a Thoroughbred designed by Committee." Practical Yes, but radical in some aspects, yes. In a board room, I'm sure it sounds like a great idea. Obviously others are climbing on this bandwagon, BECAUSES IT SAVES MONEY. I guess its the old school in me coming out, that we don't play baseball on football fields - just another sign of the times. Congrats on doing your best to host a first-class "A" State Tournament, but again all change seems to be for the worse, and nothing can compare with playing the "A" at Applebee's/Whitaker Bank Ball park. It's kind of like serving the good wine first, instead of progressing in the other direction.
  12. Darn! Tough way to lose for the Tigers. We Northerners were hoping for a Beechwood/Walton-Verona finals.
  13. Take a look at the Baseball/Football complex at Campbellsville High School, the site of this year's All "A" State Tournament. Your thoughts??? Note the odd layout of the Campbellsville High School Baseball/Football complex. I have three emotions seeing this. The first is "What a shame that the All "A" is no longer played at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington", which was a true big time experience for the players and fans. My second is that there is just something wrong with the entire outfield being a lined football field. Both come down to money. The All "A" no longer has a major sponsor such as Ashland Oil in the old days, and more recently Touchstone Energy. They are operating the progam on reserve funds and ticket sales. The second being the total practicality of the situation at Campbellsville High School. Unfortunately, it is a shame that in this day and age something like this would be even considered, but money talks, and this is obviously better than having no baseball field at all. You can all probably predict my third emotion - Thank God our powers that be (at Brossart) didn't see or take into consideration putting this abomination at the MAC. While we all anxiously await the completion of the MAC with our Baseball/Softball complex, the final result of a true baseball /softball complex will be worth the wait.
  14. You've got me figured all wrong. If anything, I'm a purist, who wants good baseball. Peterson for Oakland is a disgrace to the sport. Barraro is a bad baseball player. Unfortunately the sport is so diluted that you have these inadequate players in "Major League" lineups. Last year we suffered through Aristides Aquino. I simply want the game played the way is should be played. Most of the younger generations simply go to the games for a social outing. As you may have figured out, I know nothing about contracts, free-agency, who owns whom, etc.. I hate the fact that we have new players in the clubhouse every week, and that there is no sense of TEAM. We are merely a collection of players. We are suckers for supporting these players who have no allegiance to the town and fans for which they play. The media and guys like John Sadek who put earrings on these pigs on a nightly basis, really gets under my skin. My comments on Hunter Greene are pretty much about how he perceives himself. Don't brag on yourself until you actually accomplish something. I hope he stays healthy, but he probably won't I also realize that he has pitched in some hard luck this year. No one's reputation has ever been based on what he is going to do. I want him to maintain a low profile. Don't get on TV and show me how you are spending your millions, and don't come off as an accomplished playter, becasue you are not.
  15. Oakland is an embarrassment to "professional" baseball. I assume that we are playing them becausue we were equally as futile a year ago, and someone thinks we deserve each other..
  16. Sorry, but all of these guys charities are tax write offs. I'm sure Greene is a wonderful man, with good intentions and I'm happy that he is sharing some of his good fortune. My point in this particular thread is that he needs to maintain a low profile, and not be flaunting all of his opulence all over TV. To date he has done little to earn all of the perks of greatness. Just be cool. You are a kid six years out of high school. Be a little more discreet about it. My comments on Barry Larkin were specific to his not splashing his wealth and lifestyle all over TV. We all know that he is in love with himself, and I much prefer Brantley or Welsh as the commentator on broadcasts. The topic here is not Larkin, but Greene. Larkin might be a jerk, but he has earned what he has. Greene hasn't.
  17. Mr. Greene is starting to rub me the wrong way. He needs a lesson or two in "maintaining a low profile." During the delay at Pittsburgh Saturday night, prior to the start of the game, Jim Day took a tour of Greens bezillion dollar mansion in Arizona, with all of the tapestries of the rich and famous. He has another here in Cincinnati that is in the lap of luxury. He needs to take a page out of Barry Larkin's playbook. I'm sure that Larkin has equally as opulent homes, but he doesn't flaunt them all over TV. Whether I'm fond of him or not, he has at least earned them. Green has done nothing of a sort. He has no "Earnings" merely speculation money. Perhaps he needs to produce and show those of us who put up the money that are affording him these luxuries, before he starts flaunting these and his lifestyle on TV. Low profile Hunter! Upps, It's too late.
  18. I hope you are right. I thought he was a bad use of a first-round draft choice when we drafted him, and here six years later I continue to stand by that opinion. While we are getting good innings from him right now, albeit four of five, youngsters who throw 100mph, and have already experienced arm trouble, probably have a date with the IR list before long. Again, I hope I'm wrong, I like the kid - Smart, articulate, etc., He checks all of the boxes, but he hasn't done a thing for us yet.
  19. Yea, Be nice to me. I'm old and set in my ways. It just seems so "over the top to me, and is a distraction to viewers. If you ae listening on the radio you probably don't even notice the change much, but on TV we've got new craziness with countdown clocks, and God now what with the graphic showing runners on base and yellow boxes. The tail really seems to be wagging the dog here.
  20. Wouldn't giving the home plate umpire the authority to issue an "unreasonable delay" warning, in those incidents, rather than apply this stupid pitch per pitch clock. It seems like gross overkill to me. Speed up the challenge process, OR the between innings gap which accommodates promotions and TV/Radio commercials. Somehow, back in the day we never had issues with 3-Hour plus games. Most games were played in under 2 Hours-30/45 minutes.
  21. I'm old. I'm irritable, and I don't need more annoyances inserted into a simple game. I don't understand it. I don't want someone to explain it to me, and I really don't care. This is a micro-management that the game does not need. Balls and strikes being called without a pitch being thrown Ok, and then there was the close throw-over pickoff attempt at first base, and the runner was awarded second base. Enough is enough!!! I am already SICK of it. This gives John Sadek more trivial detail to attempt to explain on a pitch by pitch basis. Have we lost our collective minds???? Play Baseball!!!
