  1. Nothing is going on with Russell and Campbell County. Aric made it pretty well known during the off-season that he wanted to stay on to coach Jake Gross and that he would step down following this season. He is on script.
  2. It was not that long ago that it was commonly known that football players in some programs were openly discouraged from playing basketball. At Highlands, the culture has changed dramatically under Kevin Listerman, where he has put his own "basketball dynasty" in place and has legitimatized it by hanging a State Championship banner in the gym. With both programs being successful, and in some cases sharing athletes, the term "Stay in your own lane" might apply. Listerman is not the sort of guy to take shots from anyone, either from within or outside of his program without letting his feelings be known about it. With Highlands being big enough and proven to be able to produce successful basketball and football programs, I don't know why Coach Johnson would want to go there, other than attempting to generate additional income by laying a guilt trip on the roundballers.
  3. Strange game. Ask and answer through most of the third quarter when the Lady 'Stangs finish out 31-10 to draw off and win by 21. Bench depth and St Patrick foul trouble led to their demise. Molly Kramer scored 16 for the third consecutive game. Izzy Riggs matches Kramer's 16. She is named to the 10th Region All-Tournament team. Brossart takes on Montgomery County in Friday night's 6pm game.
  4. "overcome the home team 63-62 early in the third quarter" Make that "Early in the fourth quarter."
  5. Congratulations to Villa Junior Henry Thole!!! We (Brossart) saw him back on opening night in Villa Hills, and I've become a closet fan, kind of following his progress and successes throughout the year. With another season ahead, Henry has a chance to raise the bar to new heights again in 2023-24.
  6. Full house in Alexandria to witness the Mustangs outplaying the Breds 45-33 at halftime, only to see the Breds knock down 10 of their 15 three-pointers on the night in the second half to overcome the home team 63-62 early in the third quarter and go on to win 80-76. The Breds managed to survive a career high 38 point performance by Senior Logan Woosley, and 21 more put up by Mason Sepate. On the Breds side of he ledger, Coby Kramer knocked down seven 3s, to lead his team with 24 points. Ian Mann hit three long-balls and finished with 18, Luke Runyon contributed another four 3s, finishing with 16 points, and J.J. Luhn hit the remaining 3, totaling 15 of them on the night. Our Mustangs could manage only three from beyond the arc on the night, while outscoring the Breds 52-24 from inside the arc, yet coming up short, finishing out the regular season at 13-15, while the Breds close the book on their their campaign at 11-18. In district tournament play Brossart gets Scott on Tuesday night at 7:30pm in the Campbell County Middle School, while the Breds will take on Highlands. Wednesday night at 8pm in the City of Beautiful Homes.
  7. Mustangs burst from the gate strong and neer look back. Brossart Senior Logan Woosley scores a career high 33 points. Ryle Sophomore Landon Lorms nails seven 3-pointers, finishes with 23 points.
  8. Had the privilege of chatting with Coach Feldhaus when we were in Richmond for the "A" State and used their facility for a walk-through. He looks as though he might have another 700 remaining in him.
  9. I only carry one when fishing, but there ae times especially when broadcasting that I wish that I had one - dealing with velcro, wire ties, etc..
  10. Mustangs have dropped our last 9 decisions. since being 12-4.. Being without Terrell Henry certainly makes a major difference, but Riley Mastin and Carter McClanahan certainly picked up the slack. Mastin was dominant on both ends, while scoring 27 points, and McClanahan played 32 minutes, scored 17 and played some intense defense. While dropping our last 9 games, we continue to play hard, trailing the Royals only a point at intermission at 29-28 and had the lead at 37-35 mid-third quarter. At tht point the Royals went on a 10-0 run, and the margin pretty much remained nine and ten for the remainder of the contest.. Logan Woosley scored 21 to lead four Brossart double figure scorers.. We will have three regular season games next week - at Ryle, at Lloyd, and home vs NCCC before heading into district tournament play vs Scott on Tuesday , February 21st.
  11. I became involved in the "CovCath Freshman Tournament" back in the late 70s when a Freshman coach at Brossart. Jack Kaelin was ably assisted by Scott Knochelman, until his untimely demise, after which Jack continued on up until the time of his passing. It has always been a first class affair. We are lucky to have something like this to showcase our frehman teams.
  12. Polar Bear Chase Archibald hits a trio of 3-Pointers in the first quarter, and then five more (perhaps consecutively) in the third quarter for 24 points on the night. Blake Reed got his 30 and Cayden Reed put up 26, as the Mustangs again fall behind early 33-16 after a quarter, and then played ask and answer for the final 24 minutes, succumbing 99-86 in a very hotly contested game. Brossart countered with four double-figure scorers led by Logan Woosley, who would fit right into a Bracken County uniform with 23, Brandon Bezold 19 with four 3-pointers, 11 by Luke Schumacher, and 10 from Anthony Kruse. Our Mustangs will attempt to break this recent five game losing streak Friday night at Bourbon County.. The Polar Bears improve to 15-9 and will head to Walton this Fiay night to take on the Bearcats.
  13. Congratulations to the guys at Holmes who won their first game of the season last night, after sustaining 17 losses. This was also the first time this year that the Dawgs have put up in excess of 60 points. My hat is off to the players who continue to persevere at practice everyday, in pursuit of victory. A few more opportunities will present themselves between now and the conclusion of their season.
  14. Tough loss for our guys, as we were a pair of free-throws, and at one point a single rebound away from putting this one in the win column. However for the second time in our last two outings, Scott and now Highlands, we come up short. Free throws played a huge role in this one, as the Birds connected on 37 for 44, with Nate Vinson hitting on 20 of 21, while our Mustangs nailed 24 of 34, a 13 point advantage to the visitors. Vinson ended up with 48 points on the night. Mason Sepate answered with 30 points. Brandon Bezold put up 16 with four 3s. Keegan Gulley, our football quarterback, hit a trio of 3s off the bench for 11 points, and Anthony Kruse was one rebound short of a triple-double with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 12 assists. In addition to Vinson, Seth Ryan scored 21, and William Herald 20, while Brody Benke contributed 10. With the win the Birds improve to 17-6,and the Mustangs fall to 12-7. I'm thinking that Vinson's 48 may have been the most scored and the Birds' 106 the most ever scored in this facility. Highlands won the JV game 59-54 despite our Sophomore gunslinger, Parker Mulberry, nailing six 3-pointers. He then came back and nailed a pair of them in the feature event. Birds Freshmen big over our greenies. Next up for our Mustangs is the All "A" State Tournament with a Thursday night 6:30pm date with Hazard.
  15. Would have been an absolutely awesome come-back win for our guys. Unfortunately, fo us, it was not to be. Twice in the fourth quarter we cut it to 6, only to have the Eagles get a key basket and then push it back to 10. I too agree that it was a great game, and also was somewhat taken aback by the huge Scott following, especially the student section. The JV game may have been one of the most contentious games played in our facility at any level. There were seven ties and ten lead changes. We were knotted up at 17's, 28s, 30s, 32s, 36s, 38s and 41s. Scott took the lead 43-41 in the waning seconds, only to have Parker Mulberry hit the game-winning 3 pointer. Really a great basketball game.
  16. From a different perspective, Friday night football means a lot to me because until 2007 we didn't have it, and until 2019 didn't have our own place to call home. I now look forward to arriving at the stadium 90 minutes prior to tip-off, walking onto the field among our players warming up to do a pre-game interview with our head coach, interacting briefly with the players I encounter. I enjoy nothing more than climbing the steps to the press box, anticipating the excitement of the upcoming contest. I get chills when our team runs out thought the "tunnel" and the smoke just prior to kick-off. Signing on for a new broadcast is exhilarating, and I feel similar emotions as our team when we make a big play. I've got an excellent "football knowledgeable" partner, and I think we do a good job. It takes a while to wrap up and clear the press box, just in time to interact with the parents and the players as they come out of the locker room. To me the entire Friday night experience is gratifying, and as I drive away, I can't wait until we do it all over again the following week.
  17. Not a happy night for our Mustangs. Cru holds us to 28 points under our 69ppg average, as Cru Senior Matthew Resing goes off for 27 points for the Cru. St. Henry played well at home, putting 7 scorers in the book with the other two double-figure scorers Jack Grayson - 15, and Cameron Lemmond with 12. Mason Sepate was our only double-figure scorer, mustering only 10 on the night.
  18. Brossart Boys now have 16 10th Region "A" Titles since 1997 - But Who's Counting???? I'm very proud of this group of seniors, who now carry the distinction of being 10th Region "A" Champs. They have overcome a lot in their tenure with the Mustangs, and all of the hard work, early morning practices, and trips to ASAP in Covington paid off for them tonight. On this night we were the better team, and our teamwork was superb in building a 53-32 lead with just under a minute in the third quarter and then finishing it out.
  19. This is a giant step forward for Coach Cheeseman and the Williamstown program. Getting the win would have been monumental. The OT loss is certainly a moral victory.
  20. What does the Casali signing do to any chance Luke Maile has for prime time opportunities.
  21. Harlan remains undefeated with a sizable win over Bracken County. Double-trouble for our Brossart Mustangs who have a date with the Dragons next Wednesday (the 28th) in the Bath County Tournament.
  22. Another full house for the Annual Renewal of the Crosstown Classic between neighboring Bishop Brossart and Campbell County. This was the twenty-fifth time these two teams have battled for the traveling trophy. With the 85-65 win tonight, it will grace the trophy case in Claryville for the 13th time, as the Camels go one-up in the rivalry. On this night the Camels took a liking to the fast pace of the contest putting up 24 points to our 16 in the first quarter as Jake Gross knocked home a trio of 3s to pace the Camels offensive attack. The beat went on in the second period as the Camels continued the torrid pace, adding 28 points from eight different players, to their sum total, giving them a comfortable 22 point lead, 52-30, at the break. Campbell County won the third period 19-14,but the Mustangs took the finale 21-14 to account for the 85-65 final score. Logan Woosley and Luke Schumacher shared scoring honors with 18 points each and Mason Sepate added 14. Campbell County had four double-figure scorers led by Aydan Hamilton with 17, Jake Gross 16, which included a trio of 3-pointers, and 12 each from Conner Weinel and Jordan Combs. Garyn Jackson was named he Player of the Game. Campbell County won the Freshman game 52-36, and the JV game 39-29. Brossart moves on to host Bellevue on Monday and Pendleton County on Tuesday, while the Camels host Calvary on Monday, and will travel to St. Henry Tuesday at 6pm.
