  1. Longtime 10th Region fixture - Bracken County and Robertson County - Patrick Kelsch has been named the head coach of the Pendleton County Lady Cats. I hope that this is a sign that his health issues are behind him. I've always considered Patrick a top-notch coach and person. I think that Patrick will get the girls out to play and once again get excited about basketball at Pendleton County. They are lucky to have him. I'm sure he will be missed at Robertson County.
  2. No, India would not be a "role model" for my kid unless he trims up. Love his play and his work ethic, but there are responsibilities that go along with being my kid's hero, and being presentable is one of them.
  3. Being merely a casual fan who enjoys watching the Reds play on TV and not following all of the off-season moves, I cannot believe how many players on this team I don't know, or have never heard of. To me, they might as well be dressing and playing FC Cincinnati guys in Reds uniforms, and I think that speaks poorly for the organization. Also, how many of these Reds would you want to take your son to the ballpark to watch play??? India maybe, but he needs to "clean up." Not Votto, he is old news. Acquino has lowered the bar to a new low "acceptable performance" level. Farmer has no personality and is merely going through the motions to pick up a check, Moustakas (already on the IL) is an overweight slug, and Tommy Pham is another stray dog who we have taken in, who obviously can't keep his mouth shut. There is some other guy out there who looks like Wolfman Jack. Who are these guys??? Not players I want representing Cincinnati. Can't we establish a core Cincinnati Reds roster??? This is really sad.
  4. Granted, while Beechwood is the deeper team, they will likely face re-classified Senior Dalton Davenport, who went 8-1 a year ago, with a 1.06 era, striking out 128 batters in 59 innings of work, on a team that went 24-7. In Tuesday's 10th Region Championship game versus Brossart (a normally good contact team) he allowed no runs on three scattered singles, and struck out 16. Nicholas County won that game 3-0, the result of a Dalton Davenport three run home-run in the home half of the first inning. I'm quite interested in seeing how effective he will be vs Beechwood. ' .
  5. Nicholas County senior Dalton Davenport hit a three run "short porch" home run in the home half of the first inning to account for all of the runs scored in this 10th Region "A" Finals game played Tuesday evening in Carlisle. Davenport was also the Blue-Jacket hurler, who pitched a complete game shutout, scattering three Brossart hits, and striking out 16. Brossart pitcher Evan Moore did a creditable job on the mound, also going the distance, allowing only those three runs while only permitting three hits and striking out 11. My sources tell me that Nicholas County and Beechwood, the 9th Region Champ will hook up on Sunday in the 9th/10th "A" Sectional in Carlisle. I consider Brossart to be a good hitting team, and am therefore interested to see how Davenport will do vs the Tigers.
  6. With all of the housecleaning, the fact that we still have Aquino is a bad joke.
  7. I remember quite well, and I also go back to the days of one camera behind home plate. Thankfully, those days are behind us, and we are privy to the majority of the games that we play. Last year there were several games not carried by FS1 or Bally Sports or whatever, but the diverted broadcast was available to us on a different venue. So what you all are saying is that the Friday night broadcast is "Blacked Out" here locally. I guess my question is if we are blacked out, just who is watching the Reds-Dodgers on Apple TV???
  8. So I settle in t watch the game Friday night. I know they are playing because I was just listening to them in the car. Well, when I dial up FS1 (Spectrum 49), I get tennis. I check my Reds app and am informed that the game is televised via TV.apple.com. and of course, I can't get that. What is this, another money grab??? I pay over $225 to Spectrum for TV and Internet. One of the major reasons that I do so is to watch the Reds games. What is this all about???
  9. Bishop Brossart’s Girls Interim Head Basketball Coach Garren Parker has informed the school of his intention to step down from the program. Work constraints and family obligations were cited as challenges for Coach Parker and his ability to continue as Head Coach. Coach Parker was instrumental in taking over last season and leading the program to a 20-11 record which included a 37th District Championship. On behalf of the entire Bishop Brossart Community, we would like to extend a gratitude of thanks to Coach Parker for stepping in and overseeing the program last season and wish him the very best in his future endeavors.
  10. Kansas and North Carolina - A Grant Janszen, Kevin Gray Classic. Grant would be a very happy "kid" tonight.
  11. Don't drink the Hunter Greene Kool-aid. We drafted his in the first round five years ago. If this guy had the potential to be an impact player, with all of the slugs we have run through here in that time, we'd have seen him up here in the bigs by now. Another wasted top draft choice gone bust.
  12. Madonna Manor in Villa Hills has an excellent reputation. I have a friend (retired priest) who has lived there for years and loves it.
  13. The following notice was sent out to members of the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame earlier today: "Sad News- just talked to Tom Browning and he advised his wife Debora Lee "Debbie'' Browning has passed away. Funeral services will be at St Pius Church Edgewood Ky. Visitation 4-645 pm WEDNSDAY 3-30-22 and Mass at 7pm. Please keep Tom and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Joe"
  14. I don't know if Southern Comfort falls into this category, BUT it is the nastiest Whiskey/Bourbon I've ever partaken in. On the other hand while I enjoy Crown Royal and Makers, I can also enjoy Kessler and Coke and have for decades.
  15. Your "very good" official missed the call. The arrow should change the instant that the official hands the ball to the team/player for the inbounds pass. A turnover is a turnover, be is an immediate traveling call or a five seconds call. He was wrong.
  16. August 19 – at Dayton August 26 – Newport Sept 1 – Bellevue Sept 9 – at Holy Cross Sept 16 – at Lloyd Sept 23 – at Ludlow Sept 30 – at Nicholas County Oct 7 – Bracken County 7:30 Oct 14 – Paris 7:30 Oct 21 – BYE Oct 28 – Pendleton County 7:30 This is a mirror image of last season’s schedule which resulted in a 12-1 record. It contains games versus six Class 1-A opponents, a trio of Class 2-A rivals, and Pendleton County a Class 3A team. Lost to graduation are the Quarterback-Running Back combination of Jacob Leicht and Jed Martin who both racked up over 1,000 yards rushing. On paper it certainly looks like a rebuilding year, much as it did a year ago, but while we will have some mighty big shoes to fill, the cupboard is certainly not bare. We return at least a dozen players with varsity experience and the nucleus of the 2021 JV team who went 4-0. We could also obtain reinforcements from a productive Jr High Colts program.

  18. Bracken County has become a deserving Cinderella this week. The 10th Region "A" Champs have done everything asked of them, overcome adversity, created adversity, and are still here to play in their first championship game since 1955. There are things that you can overcome, but GRC is not one of them. I think that Bracken County will put some points on the board, and I don't think that the GRC press will cause them to wilt, however, 32 minutes against a deeper, more talented (overall) blue-blooded team will lead to their undoing. I hope that they will not be embarrassed. I don't think that will happen, and as foolish as it might seem, I don't think we will see a 20-30 point gap. Too bad that there is not some mere mortal 10th Region team awaiting them, but this is not the case. May be a trip over the track for bigger things ahead - like an All "A" State Title - down the road, and another run to the finals while the Reeds still wear the uniform.
  19. I know that the 10th Region has a long standing Hall of Fame, and the 9th Region, a more recent "Court of Distinction." I'm curious as to how many other regions honor their past players, coaches, and contributors in this way.
  20. Coach Carl Wenderoth was an outstanding human being, with a quick wit and sense of humor. If you had your coffee cup hanging in Coach Wenderoth's office, you knew you were part of his "in-crowd." Most true quote: To win a big tournament it takes a good draw, a good call, and a good bounce of the ball." That has stuck with me throughout my career.
  21. Don't know how I missed this. I ran into Dave at the 9th Region BBall Tournament earlier today. This is a solid hire for Bellevue. Dave stayed at Bracken County until his son, who played quarterback for the Bears graduated.. Dave is 60 years old and still has a few years to reinstitute the excellent tradition that formerly existed in this once-proud River City school. Dave reported that he has 40 players showing interest in playing Bellevue Football in 2022.
  22. Happy to see Ciera Byars in the lineup for GRC, after appearing to sustain a potentially time-loss injury in the Brossart game Friday night. 16 Points/13 Rebounds says she is just fine.
  23. Somewhat contentious game. Mason County jumped out to a 24-15 first quarter lead, hitting five 3s in the period. Braylon Hamilton, a sophomore hit three of them. Brossart outscored the Royals 18-12 in the second period, cutting the margin to 36-33 at halftime. Brossart Junior, Mason Sepate, put up 14 to lead the Mustangs in the first half, and when we got the ball to David Govan, he scored. Thirty-two minutes proved to be too many for our guys as Mason County won the second half 33-17. Nate Mitchell, Terrell Henry, and Braylon Hamilton all had a big half scoring 8 or more. On the night, Nate Mitchell led all scorers with 21 points, Braylon Hamilton put up 19, and Terrell Henry 10. On the Mustangs side of the leger, David Govan and Mason Sepate scored 14 apiece, ad Logan Woosley added 8. For Govan, our lone senior, he finishes his career with 910 career points, 26th best among all-time Brossart scorers. Brossart closes the book on a start-crossed season at 12-19, while the Royals improve to 24-5 and they will play the role of underdog Monday night when they face GRC in the 6pm game. .
  24. News swept the Brossart and Northern Kentucky sports communities this morning that our present Fast-Pitch Softball Assistant Coach, Boys Basketball Public Address Announcer, and former longtime Athletic Director has passed away. Melvin was quite instrumental in running the Northern Kentucky Athletic Director's Hall of Fame, and is known to be the Northern Kentucky Girls and Boys basketball historian. Melvin was looking forward to coaching the Brossart softball team again this spring with Tom Baynum, and was recovering nicely from a recent hospital stay. This is obviously sudden and shocking news to all of us.
  25. Perhaps "Incidentally" would have been a better choice of words.
