  1. The Brossart Mustang JV team finished out a 4 wins, no loss skein, defeating Pendleton County 21-0 on Monday night in Alexandria. Three Mustangs - Tyler Kreidenweis, Landon Geyer, and Freshman quarterback Keegan Gulley all scored touchdowns. Alejandro Arguelles was a perfect 3 of 3 on PATs. Many Mustangs contributed defensively to the win, notably Luke Piscitello, Nolan Jordan, Nathan Geiman, Nate Heck, Derek smith and Henry Goering. Our other victories came over Dayton, Lloyd, and Holmes.
  2. Mustangs "run the table" going 10-0, sweeping their regular season schedule by defeating Pendleton County 24-14 in the "Battle of US27" at Sharp Middle School on Friday night. Mustangs spot Pendleton County and 8-0 first quarter lead, knot the game at 8s at the half, score 24 unanswered, draw off to a 24-8 lead, and surrender a late-game touchdown to account for the final score. 3. Good question!!! We caught it immediately that they were not wearing dark uniforms. They were off-white, or light grey perhaps, but definitely not "Dark, Contrasting." Not Paris admins finest hour, they also had to seek volunteers to serve as chain gang just prior to kick-off.
  4. Following Newport's OT win over Lloyd a week ago. Interesting!!!
  5. Mustangs had to earn this one, under challenging conditions akin to a Mud Wrestling pit following either steady heavy afternoon rains, or Puck leaving on the irrigation system. Brossart Quarterback Jacob Leicht was picked off on our first play from scrimmage, and while the Hounds were unable to threaten, their punt pinned the Mustangs back at the 1 yard line. It would take Leicht the remainder of the period and nearly three minutes of the second to negotiate those 99 yards, and it wasn't until the officials unstacked the pile on fourth and goal, that it was determined that Leicht had crossed the goal line. David Govan made easy work of the two-point conversion following two encroachment calls against the Hounds, and the Mustangs led 8-0 at the break. Neither team would dent the scoring column in the third stanza, and it wouldn't be until Austin Schadler blocked a Paris punt attempt from our endzone, when David Govan would fall of the football for our second score of the night. Andrew Schwartz tacked on the extra point. The Mustangs came within 20 seconds of posting the shutout, as the Hounds capped off a 55 yard drive with a Zion Jackson run, to score with that much time remaining in the game. The two-point conversion was no good, and this one went into the history books as a 15-6 Brossart victory, our ninth consecutive. We will attempt to run the table next Friday night as regular season play concludes with an independent game, billed "Battle of US27" as we take on the Pendleton County Wildcats at Sharp Middle School. With the win, the Mustangs earn the Class 1A, District 5 top seed and will play two home games, should we defeat Paris in a re-match in three weeks at the MAC.
  6. Mustangs score three touchdowns in first 6:37 of the game, go scoreless following a lightning delay through halftime. Add on one TD each in the third and fourth quarter, set a school record for best start in a season with eight consecutive, and will head to Paris hoping to secure the Class 1A, District 5 top seed, next Friday night. 1Q - 9:32 - BB - Jed Martin 46 yard run, PAT No Good 6-0 1Q - 8:12 - BB - David Govan 7 yard run - 2 Point Conversion Good - Jacob Leicht Run - 14-0 1Q - 5:23 - BB - Jacob Leicht 46 Yard keeper - PAT Good - 21-0 3Q - 6:00 - BB - Evan Orth 10 Yard Run, Jed Martin 2-Point Conversion - 29-0 4Q - 9:01 - BB - Jacob Leicht TD run (unk), PAT Good - 36-0 FINAL
  7. Raceland, Been there, Done That. Still looking for our first win there, but they know us.
  8. How in the world were Cincinnati fans allowed to get that many tickets??? That's a bad look for Notre Dame.
  9. Our vaunted Reds give up 8 Runs and 16 hits to the Pirates, in a game lasting 3 Hours and 45 minutes. Dismal exhibition of MLB. Absolutely Dismal.
  10. The Pirates??? The same Pirates who finished 35 games out of first place, and 22 games behind our vaunted Reds???
  11. Nor would have I wanted to be Clay County, or anyone else on this night.
  12. Mustangs roll to 7-0 on the merits of a 14-0 shutout over Class 1A, District 5 rival Nicholas County on Brossart (early) Senior Nigh in Alexandria, as we conclude a four game home stand. The win gives us a one-up advantage over the Blue Jackets and the Paris Greyhounds in district play. Tonight's game started out as a pitchers battle, as Brossart could not pick up a first down on our first two possessions, nor could the Blue Jackets on their first offensive set. After a first down and a 46 yard field goal attempt, the Mustangs took over at the Nicholas County 20-yard line and marched the ball 80 yards for a touchdown, culminated by a 18 yard touchdown run by our quarterback, Jacob Leicht, and when "Dewey" Schwartz split the uprights we led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Our subsequent drive started at our own 15 yard line, but not to worry, Leicht again orchestrated an 85 yard drive which he finished off with a 31 yard run on fourth down, pushing the lead to 14-0, when Schwartz again connected on the PAT Aurturo Alain Lopez-Dominguez then attempted a field-goal from 60 yards out, which landed just under the crossbar, and the Mustangs took a knee from their own 20 to end the half. Neither team scored in the second half, despite creditable drives by both teams. Each team picked up 7 first downs apiece in the second half, but neither could punch it in. The Blue Jackets attempted a 61 yard field-goal in the third quarter, and this one sailed under the crossbar. This kid can kick. With the win the Mustangs improve to a program best tying 7-0 start, and combined with games played in 2020, have now won 8 in succession, and 12 of their last 13. We travel to Brooksville next Friday night for a district showdown with the upstart Bracken County Polar Bears and a Port Tenderloin sandwich.
  13. Big district seeding win for the Polar Bears, who continue to impress. Could have an impact on home field advantage down the road in the playoffs. Brossart and Nicholas County sqare off in the other DIstrict 5 seeding battle Friday night in Alexandria. Brossart will be in Brooksville next Friday night, October 8th.
  14. Indeed a sad day. An assistant at Lloyd (maybe Holy Cross) was telling me about him prior to our game a couple of weeks back, and I could read the love and admiration that the JC grad had for Coach Matney. Relentless passion for his "Mountain People" and his program. Tough loss!!!
  15. I know nothing about such things, so I will defer to those of you in a better postion to discuss such things to do so. Right now the problem is that we have too many teams and too many players, which has made our old minor league baseball our new major league baseball, and its a BAD product. I do hope that working out the money, provides for a more level playing field and a more competitive balance among teams.
  16. In re-reading this post, Thankfully Austin Schadler is a junior, but I failed to mention that we lose Senior Kaleb Lukes, who is one of our top defensive players.
  17. Actually not at all. All I want is a quality Major League Baseball product. I want Major League quality players playing the game and making plays. I want some stability on the roster. I want an identifiable nucleus to the team. I want pitchers who don't walk or hit half of the batters they face, and pitchers than can go more than one inning at a time in relief. I want to be able to relate to the players on the team, and I want to feel that they have some allegiance to the city in which they play. I don't want players called up from Louisville inserted into the lineup in front of veterans, and I prefer that our veterans be productive MLB players instead of slugs watering down our product. I want radio/TV announcers who don't try to over-dramatize every play, and over-hype every player and play regardless of how bad they might be, and make excuses for sub-standard play. Just call the game. The fans can draw their own conclusions. Unfortunately, the quality of play has deteriorated to where our present MLB players can't make routine plays. Teams like Washington and Pittsburgh are pathetic. Their pitching is inept. Our batting averages are inflated because of playing inferior competition, AND when we get beat 8 series in a row to bad teams, What does that say about the Reds??? I've said from Day One, that the Reds are a ruderless ship and stand by that declaration. I don't want a rebirth of the Big Red Machine, I merely want a team that plays Major League quality baseball and that their opponents do the same. Nothing more, Nothing less. That's sure not what we are getting.
  18. Roster presently stands at 39 at 100%. With the graduation of Trevor Schadler, Devon McCormick and a total of seven quality seniors, many of us thought we might take a step back this season, so this has been a monumental pleasant surprise for us. While it is the end of the Jacob Leicht, Trevor Schadler, Jed Martin and David Govan offensive era, the cupboard is certainly not bare. Present Junior Mason Meyer and Freshman Keegan Gulley will vie for the 2022 quarterback position Evan Orth will be a stabilizing force on both sides of the ball. We will take a big hit on defense, losing Leicht, Martin, Austin Schadler, Daniel Williamson, Govan, Adam Bezold, Alex and Brad Reis and Thomas Sayers, as well as our place-kicker Andrew Schwartz. It will be hard to replace these guys, but some underclassmen have been pressed into duty due to injury and have performed admirably, boding well for our future.
  19. My good friend Terry Boehmker at the Northern Kentucky Tribune reports that it was #2 Jaxson Rice and not #12 Nick Tackett who caught Ludlow's touchdown pass. I stand corrected and appreciate the update. "Senior running back Jed Martin rushed for 138 yards on 14 carries and scored twice for the Mustangs. Senior quarterback Jacob Leicht had 119 yards rushing and 75 passing. He scored on a 1-yard run and threw a 49-yard TD pass to David Govan. Ludlow (1-5) scored its only touchdown in the third quarter when junior Jaxson Rice caught a 10-yard pass from senior Brogan O’Brien."
  20. Mustangs improve to 6-0 heading into district seeding play next week, with a commanding 41-7 win over Ludlow Friday night at home. Ludlow led this series 9-3 and were on a 4-0 run, coming off of a 54-33 win over the Mustangs a year ago at Rigney Stadium in Ludlow. In that game Braxton Newborn ran for 220 yards and five touchdowns. Not so Friday night in Alexandria, where the Mustangs led 34-0 when the Panthers put together a drive that ended in the end zone on a pass from O'Brien to Nick Tackett. The Mustangs promptly answered and went on to wen 41-7. BB - 1:43 - 1st Q - 2yard touchdown run by Austin Schadler - 2 point conversion (Jacob Leicht run) good - 8-0 BB - 4:50 - 2ndQ - 49 yard touchdown pass from Leicht to Govan - PAT No Good - 14-0 BB - :24 - 2ndQ - Jacob Leicht 1 yard touchdown plunge (51 yard drive) - PAT Good 21-0 BB - :17 - 2ndQ - Pix Six - 40 Yard Touchdown Interception by Derek Martin - PAT Good - 28-0 BB - 9:08 - 3rdQ - 5 Yard TD Run - Jed Martin (50 Yard Drive) - PAT No Good - 34-0 L - 53 - 3rd Q - 10 Yard TD Pass - O'Brien to Nick Tackett - PAT Good - 34-7 BB - :03 - 3rd Q - 45 Yard Jed Martin TD Run - PAT Good - 41-7 - FINAL Mustangs begin district seeding competition next Friday night vs Nicholas County in our final home game of the season.
  21. And both would be embarrassingly double-figures behind the Dodgers.
