  1. Another good showing by the Panthers against a hot Boone County team while on the road.
  2. Young Mustangs having trouble putting four good quarters together. Much as in the Holy Cross game Wednesday night, we were right there at 43-41, only to see the Red and White Tigers go on a 10-0 run - a carbon copy of our finish at the Finn. Hopefully, some maturation along the way will allow us to finish some of these games. Sophomore Ben Doyle led us with 16, and Freshman Brady Boruske and junior big man, Alex Combs, contributed 14 each. Jack Sullivan, a junior who got us for 21 last year as a sophomore, in Fort Mitchell, led all scorers with 25, and Carson Blackburn and Quinn Eviston chipped in 10 each.
  3. This is an impressive win for Coach Hicks' Tigers. 2-0 and a third D-III opponent, Ludlow, next up on their dance card. I'm hearing rumors of an impactful addition to the Tigers roster. If that has come to fruition, it could be a fun season in Tiger Town.
  4. OK, it is Sunday night. I've got until Thursday to figure out how to watch the game Thursday night. What is PRIME, and why isn't the game on National TV as in the past? Obviously a money grab involved here.
  5. When you think that this can't possibly be right, it will be another mile ahead.
  6. Sayre is an enigma. It seems that they often only play well enough to win, and keep something left in the tank. We have played both teams - a pre-season scrimmage with Sayre and a regular season game at Paris. They are different style teams. Sayre, when they are on the top of their game is a pass-first team, while the Hounds will try to out-run and out-score you. The big question in my mind is - Is the Sayre defense good enough to contain the Hounds. If so, I do believe their offense is capable of matching them point to point. If not, Raceland will be coming to Blanton Collier Stadium the following Friday.
  7. This is classic second-guessing. Had we converted and scored on those "Wasted Opportunities" we wouldn't be having this conversation.
  8. Why you play the game. This is only the second time that Brossart has been shut out since October 12, 2018. The other was last year when we lost 7-0 to Newport while without our place-kicker. Dayton controlled time of possession, and their defense stopped the Mustangs twice while threatening deep in the Red Zone. Being a Brossart fan, I felt like we would catch a momentum swing in the second half and find a way to win. The big fullback Jiminez is a load at 250 lbs and picked up most of his short-yardage challenges, Mason Johnson and Chad Nickell kept the Devils playing in front of the sticks, particularly in the first half. They were able to manufacture two TDs in the last 1:30 of the first half which stood up. Previous to tonight's defeat, Brossart had beaten Dayton seven straight times dating back to 2014, not counting a Covid cancellation. Reporters from the NoKy Tribune (Terry Boehmker), LINK NKY (Ray Schaefer), and 10thRegion.com (Will Jones) were all on hand covering the game which should be well documented. Congratulations to the Dayton Greendevils!!!
  9. Mustangs score early and often in preserving possession of the "Battle of US 27" Trophy 43-0 Alex Amin, Tyler Holtz, Luke Schroeder, and Cam Mandel all score touchdowns. Nick Cozzi scored twice. Keegan Gulley (6-8, 122 yards, 2 TDs) threw for a pair of scores and completed a Two-Point Conversion on a reception from Tyler Holtz. Tyler Smith improves to 23 of 23 on PATS by going 5 of 5 in this one. For their efforts Keegan Gulley (O) and Nick Heck (D) were named players of the game for Brossart. Brett Morgan (O) and J.B. Combs (D) for Pendleton County. With the win the Mustangs even their season record at 5-5 and will host Dayton next Friday night in the District 3-4 Playoffs .
  10. For the sake of representation, Brossart scores a school record 57 points in defeating Trimble County Friday night in Bedford, securing the Class 1A, District 4 Number Two seed as a result of Ludlow defeating Holy Cross in Ludlow. Both teams were short-handed and down their starting qurterbacks. Trimble County dressed only 19 players for this one, and Brossart liberally exercised our compliment of able bodied team members. Tyler Holtz connected on 12 of 20 for 244 yards and four touchdowns (Luke Schroeder (2), Alex Amin, Cam Mandel) and ran for a fifth. Junior Cam Mandel scored three touchdowns, and late in the game Sophomore Trip Wilson found Eli Davis for our eighth touchdown of the evening. Our place kickers were perfect - Tyler Smith 6 for 6, and Reid Thompson 1 of 1 on PATS.. Mandel had a 2-Point conversion. Brossart led 21-0 after a quarter and by as many as 29-0 late in the half. The game went to a running clock at 50-14. I was impressed with Raider speedsters Sam Galloway, and Collin Tolliver, who along with fullback Zach Hemmingway were responsible for nearly all of their offense. Unfortunately for Trimble County the trio are all seniors. Brossart has earned a home playoff date with Dayton in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs. We will close out the regular season at home next Friday night when we hot Pendleton COunty.
  11. Congratulations to Team Woody! Happy for you guys who earned this title with a hard-nosed football team. I'm sure they are dancing in the streets and around the Panther tonight in Ludlow. Well deserved!!!
  12. The Ludlow Panthers defend the Red Turf, defeating our Brossart Mustangs 20-7 in the district seeding determination battle. After a scoreless first half, Brossart quarterback Keegan Gulley was intercepted setting up a Ludlow score, making it 7-0 at halftime. Ludlow marched 68 yards for a touchdown on their first offensive possession of the half, extending the lead to 14-0. Brossart answered on a Gulley to Alex Amin touchdown pass, cutting the Panther advantage in half. Ludlow returned the ensuing kickoff all of the way to the Brossart 6, but the Mustang defense was up to the task, and the Panthers were denied putting additional points on the board. Ludlow put this one away midway through the fourth period when quarterback Mays connected with Spencer Brandenberg on a 27 yard aerial making the final score 20-7, handing our Mustangs our first district seeding loss. We will travel to Bedford next Friday night to take on Trimble county. Ludlow hosts Holy Cross.
  13. Both teams played without their top Running Backs - Holy Cross were without Ulysses Porter - 88/812yde, 12 TD, 135 ypg. Brossart were virtually without Cam Mandel who was in the game for merely two snaps - 83/511 yds, 5 TDs, 85ypg.. Brossart quarterback Keegan Gulley returned to form and turned in his best performance to date, running for two touchdowns and passing for another. Both Place Kickers were perfect on PATs. Brossart's Tyler Smith was 5 of 5, and Indian William Fisk 2 of 2. Mustangs go to Ludlow next Friday night, while Holy Cross will host Trimble County - all same district foes.
  14. Brossart's leading rusher Cam Mandel ,played only two snaps in this one, somewhat offsetting the Indians going without Porter. Somewhat being the operative word, but Luke Schroeder came in from his normal wide-out spot to serve as primary back, and did a yeoman's job.
  15. Undoubtedly the finest third baseman I have ever seen play the game. His 1970 World Series was incredible. Was over 50 years ago and I remember it like it happened yesterday. The Best!
  16. Bellevue making strides, but not up to the caliber of Dayton. Greendevils name the score.
  17. Lots of questions to be answered in this one. Listen Live: BMustangs.com
  18. Mustangs suffer the mother of all bad starts allowing 20 points in the first 3 minutes, 20 seconds. Tyler Smith delivers on a 42 yard FIeld Goal for Brossart's only score. Running Clock at the 3 minute mark of the third quarter. Paris returns 65, 78, and 80 yard kickoff/punt returns Too much speed for the Mustangs defense and special teams to contain on this night. Elijah Webb with two of them. Greyhounds improve to 6-0. Mustangs fall to 2-4 heading in to district play next week at home vs Holy Cross.
  19. In their last 10 outings, Campbell County leads the series 8-2.
  20. Mustangs not quite ready for 3A Prime Time football. Following the first quarter which ended 6-0 Juggs on a blocked punt touchdown. Lloyd lays 28 unanswered in the second quarter putting this one in the win column. Yuri Collins-Comer with three TDs, and Dominic Larkin with 2.- Brossart Freshman Tripp Wilson scored on a 71 yard run for Brossart's only score (Plus Reid Thompson PAT) with 28 seconds remaining on the running clock.. Mustangs get a bye week next week, and are back in the deep end of the pool , traveling to Paris on the 29th.
  21. I don't disagree with the possibility of any of the above comments. Lloyd seems to be on a good roll. Lloyd beat us 40-3 in Erlanger a year ago, and we are still trying to figure things out here in 2023. An interesting note is that we defeated Lloyd in 2021 here in Alexandria 13-8.
  22. Happy for the Tigers!!! The Lynn Campers came to Bellevue with two legitimate sizable wins over Berea and Knott County Central. Continued success!
  23. Mustangs even their season record at 2-2 with the 28-22 come from behind win over Nicholas County in Carlisle. Nicholas County led 8-0 after one. Brossart overtook the Jackets 10-8 at halftime on a 37 yard Field Goal by Tyler Smith and a Keegan Gulley to Tim Kitt aerial for a Touchdown. Smith hit the PAT to account for our 10 first half points Smith would hit a 48 yard field goal to start the second half, giving Brossart a 13-8 lead, which was answered by a 3 yard run by Oscar Salcedo making it 14-13 in favor of the home team heading to the fourth quarter. The Blue Jackets extended their lead to 22-13 with 7:28 remaining in the game on a Colby Gray score and an Alex Koeder 2-point conversion. At that point the Mustangs would shift gears on offence inserting Tyler Holtz at quarterback who pitched to Cam Mandel on our first offensive series with him under center, who hit Keegan Gulley the normal quarterback on a 27 yard touchdown pass. When the 2-point effort failed the Mustangs had closed he gap to 22-19. The game-winner would be a 37yark Landon Geyer run with 2:46 remaining in the contest along with a Tyler Smith PAT, giving the Stangs a 26-22 advantage. A late game safety made the final score 28-22. The Mustangs will get a stiff challenge when the Lloyd Juggernauts come to Alexandria next Friday night.
