Bishop Brossart vs. Newport Central Catholic Predictions/Updates (2/23)

Featured Replies

Well this game has always intrigued me as the two small Catholic schools of Campbell County do battle in the last regular season game.  Since the mid 90's this has been definitely a rivalry, normally 2 really good teams playing.

I am shocked when I looked at records.  What has happened?  Are both team struggling with talent level?  Not enough players in Campbell County to allow both schools to be strong?

NCC enters the game at 7-21.  In looking at their schedule though they have played some pretty top flight teams.

Brossart currently stands at 3-23 and on a 20 game losing streak that includes a recent double digit loss to Bellevue.  They have Lloyd tonight so I assume they may be 3-24 by game time.

Anyone?

I HATE to be that guy (especially on something like this), but the Brossart streak is actually 22.  I don't see it stopping tomorrow night.

It has been a fast tumble for both schools.  Brossart is young, with no seniors on the team.  They also don't have much size.  They don't seem to have the horses to play the style that Franzen wants to play.   NewCath has some size and they have played a tough schedule.  I see a double digit win by the Breds.

From what I've seen, the grade school teams in Campbell Co are pretty good.  Remains to be seen where those kids go to high school.

This year's Brossart team has been plagued by our past success.  We play the NKAC DivIi schedule which we have not been able to be competitive.  We did not get back some of the football players we were expecting, and in the final weeks of the season, lost Ben Doyle, our floor general, to an ankle injury.

Looking at the three teams that we did beat Villa, Calvary, and Bracken, they are playing lesser schedules and all have double-digit wins.  With no seniors, hopefully this season will provide the experience needed to set up a "rebound season" in 24-25.

We played NCC to 35-33 at halftime, and then promptly tied the score at 35-35 to start the second half.  Things went downhill from there as NCC went on a 21-0 run and that was that.

Is Doyle the son of former player Rob Doyle?
