Congrats to Somerset. They played well. They hit the big plays when they needed them. Bailey played hard and had some big runs, but Somerset beat the dragons with the pass tonight, and the Dragons couldn’t stop them when needed. Let me start with saying I feel like the Dragons play calling was suspect tonight, the last three games the dragons have thrown the ball entirely to much and haven’t rode Houchens for the entire game. Tonight was the night, you ride your horse and if you take a loss, you take a loss, but the Dragons again threw the ball entirely to much when they had the best player on the field in Houchens. With that said, Blake Houchens had a monster game for the Dragons, hate see this is his last game for the Dragons, he’s been the best player on the field every game he’s played this year. Multiple sacks with one being a strip sack that the Dragon recovered where he came from the back side defensive end and sacked the WB who had rolled out to the opposite side, and he had multiple tackles for loss, while rushing for 100 plus yards tonight. He’s going to be tough to replace. With all of that said, Green County had a great year, and will miss some great seniors, but they return a bunch of really good football players next year, and most linemen as well. It’s always tough to watch young men play their last game of high school football. I wish those young men success in the future. Congrats to Somerset again, good luck next week and go beat LCA.

Round 3 is a re-bracket of the top 4 east teams and the top 4 west teams based on RPI. The top remaining RPI team for the east and west regions will become the the one seeds, down to the second best remaining RPI all the way down to the 4th worst RPI of the remaining teams for each region. Once the Semi-Final teams are set, they re-bracket the last 4 teams per highest RPI playing the lowest remaining RPI, and the two middle RPI teams playing each other, no matter the region. Top two RPI teams also get home field advantage.

Hopefully my Dragons can get past Somerset this week and I get to see LCA in person next week. I know that’s a tough game for my Dragons, but love to see them play against great talent and see how they match up.

I actually was able to watch the video of the fight, neither one of the smith brothers were involved in the direct fight, but it appears they may have come onto the field during the fight and grabbed some of there guys, which I believe is automatic suspension for the next game if you enter into the field during a fight, even if you didn’t get involved in the fight. I could be wrong as the video I was shown is blurry, but I’ve seen both of those young men multiple times, and it appears as if both went into the field while the fight occurred, but neither had direct contact with any Marion County player or coach.

I agree. I do think Glasgow is a good matchup with Union. They can match Union with size and can pound the ball at them as well. Should be a competitive game.

If both of those young men are suspended and don't play, PT most likely beats them with a running clock. They are the entire Taylor Offense, and Peyton Smith is as good as any back in the state in his class, and I would argue, might be as good as any in the state in every class, so when you don't have that type of talent playing, you have a significant drop off. If they play, this should be a dog fight, with both teams getting after each other.

Quite a few good first round games. Taylor and PT has to be my favorite other than my Dragons playing Somerset. Both very good games.

He does, plays safety for them. He’s a very good open field tackler, and very good at being in the right place. With that said, he’s much more explosive on the offensive side of the ball, he’s got elite speed and balance and breaks a ton of tackles. He’s a really good back, who I figure will hold quite a few D1 offers by the time he is a senior. Kid ran for 2000 yards last year as a true freshman, and would have done the same this year if he wasn’t injured for 4 games. Taylor hasn’t taken a loss in a game that he has played the entire game yet. He honestly makes them that much better.

I doubt the Mercer kid is any better than Peyton Smith. He’s as good as any back I’ve seen. Should be a big challenge for PT.

Taylor will be a handful for PT If they don’t get healthy and run the football. Taylor will score, just depends on if they can stop PT enough to win.

What a tale of two halves. The Dragons played decent but sloppy football in the first half, and trailed 21-20. The second half was complete domination by the Dragons. The second half was the team the Dragons are capable of being. They just seem to turn the switch off and on and it has cost them some games this year. Great effort from Todd, they never gave up and played hard all night. Great game from both teams.

Metcalfe has issues with elite speed, and Brown has that, So I think Danville could win that game, but Metcalfe is massive up front and get after you on offense and will just pound the ball right at you all night until you stop it, and that's easier said than done. If you load the box, they will throw it over the top with Blythe, who can flat out move. That Danville and Metcalfe game should be a fun one if both make it to round two.

This is a very good win for Campbellsville. They just keep winning games, and I don't think most on this site realize how young and talented this Campbellsville squad is. They aren't a threat to beat the top 2 of class A this year, but this squad returns 95 percent of the team next year, and most are freshman and sophomores, who have 2-3 years left, with a loaded 8th grade team coming up next year as well. If this team can get some playoff experience this year, they are going to be a handful for anyone the next three years.

After being in the mountains all week with little to no internet or cell service, I've made it back in time to keep up with this one by radio. The Dragons travel to Todd County Central today for a 3 pm start. I expect this to be a very physical game and what should be very competitive game as well. Do the Dragons bounce back after one of the worst games they have played all year, or does Todd pull this one out at home and send the Dragons tumbling into next weeks playoffs. Give me Green 36-28.

Metcalfe is much better than KCD when fully healthy. Metcalfe had some kids go out injured against Green late last week, if those kids are healed and able to play, Metcalfe wins by 2-3 touchdowns. If they are out, this game should be competitive.

If PT isn't good at stopping the run, they are in for a long night with Taylor County. If they can stuff the run, they should win this game pretty easily. Taylor doesn't throw the ball well at all, but they are elite in running the football. The back for Taylor is as good as anyone they will see running the football from here and as far as they go. I think Glasgow could very well upset Union as well, as Glasgow is the best 4 seed in the entire state. I'd hate to know I got them in round one.

Final per the scoreboard. What happened here? I figured Somerset would have dominated Washington County.

First and foremost, congratulations to Metcalfe County, they played better and deserved to win. They dominated the first 3 quarters and they earned every bit of this win. They wanted this game more than the Dragons, no other way for me to say it. The Dragons played terrible from the opening onside kick, and that continued with allowing Metcalfe to recover another onside in the third quarter as well. From fumbles when guys weren't even hit, to missed tackles, a guy in perfect position falling down in the secondary that allowed a 60 yard TD pass, a 4th and 15 where two guys allow Blythe to get behind them and score. Bad Snaps, penalties, dropped TD pass, Dropped INT, you name it, and the dragons did it. It wasn't a pretty night of football from the Dragons. Some of this was due to Metcalfe being a great team, but most were just self inflicted and poor play by the Dragons. With all that said, its like the Dragons finally turned on the light bulb and decided to play and dominated the last 9 minutes of the game and almost came all the way back to win. They also threw the ball very well at times and did things they couldn't do last year. Green is a talented team, but they just aren't consistent enough to be a top team and beat any of the top 4 teams in 2a. Metcalfe is very very good up front, and massive across the line, but they lack any other top end playmakers other than Blythe, and will have to pound teams over and over later in the playoffs, and I'm not sure they will be able to do that with the bigger and better teams. The Hornets and The Dragons are both very good teams, but I have to be honest, I don't think ether can beat the top 4 squads in 2a with what I saw tonight.

I heard this as well. Heard the Cats have their eyes on grabbing a transfer from Wisconsin.

This should be a very good game. Holy Cross is very solid team that will cause some issues for Campbellsville. I think Campbellsville should win this game with it being at home, but I expect it to be very close. Give me Campbellsville 35-28.

Blake Houchens is the best player no one really knows about. I saw a post from his brother on Facebook a few weeks back of his midseason highlights and it was beyond impressive. I honestly haven't been to a game yet where I have seen a better player on the field. He averages right at 8 yards a carry, has run for 770 yards on 100 carries and 8 Td, has 8 catches for 171 yards and 1Td, 47 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery and never leaves the field for the Dragons. If you get the chance, come watch the young man, he is worth the price of admission. Look up his Hudl, its like watching a kid who should be recruited by some of the top colleges in the state and is flying under the radar. Another cool part about coming to Dragon stadium is you also get to see some really great athletes around him, and Mr. Do everything Julian Seymour, score, play great defense and help his team in every aspect of the game. Did I mention this Friday the stadium will be standing room only and the turf and upgrades around the facility are top notch. Come on out to what should be a Dandy of a game.

I can tell you from last years experience, Mayfield isn't a fun place to have to go play. Not because the stadium isn't beautiful or the fans aren't great, but because they mean business on that field. If Green County can win Friday night and somehow win the first round and second round of the playoffs, I believe they would end up traveling to Owensboro Catholic in round three if they pass Mayfield in RPI. Which I believe would set up a LCA at Mayfield round three game as well.

Danville will have to throw the football to have any chance of beating LCA, and they can't do that consistently right now. They won't be able to run iso plays all night and have no threat of throwing the ball and expect to win. LCA will load the box and dare them to throw the ball. I think Danville will score two or three times, but won't be able to outscore LCA. Give me LCA 48-21.

If East plays like they did with Ballard in the scrimmage, I think they can win this game, if they play like they did against Spencer, I think they get the running clock. Should be an interesting game for sure.
