  1. That one is the really the only head scratcher for me. Only thing I can think of is maybe both had a late cancellation for that same week?
  2. I should have clarified! I meant that as each year that they won it or were really good. Seems like they heard the same in 96, 02 and even the years they made a run for a state title appearance and fell short.
  3. Do you have a clue of how/when scheduling(s) happens?
  4. Said it last week and I’ll say it again. This same talk has gone it seems like each year they’ve won it all, beginning in ‘95. I have no idea if they will win it or even be there this year, but I know I’m pulling for them.
  5. People thought the same thing in ‘95. Not saying a state title is going to happen again, but I remember hearing this about them (pre BGP and any type of social media existence/chatter) then.
  6. They didn’t intentionally make that schedule. They’d love to play a slate full of teams their size and/or bigger schools that should play them, but those schools won’t. Not to beat this horse, but six classes had made for scheduling hell for a lot of programs. Instead of being locked into 5-7 teams similar to you that HAD to play you, RVK and others are only left with 2-4 in most all cases across the state. People are looking for wins. 2A-4A “County” school with little to no real football success aren’t playing “little ole’ 1A schools” like Russellville with their history, tradition, team speed (even their down years in talent are better than a lot of these rural county smaller schools best crops). Prior to last year, how many straight Region titles/semis has RVK been too? Can’t exactly remember and don’t feel like looking up. Many teams that should play them, won’t and that’s how you end up with them going to Somerset and others. I can assure you this isn’t the schedule they wish they had.
  7. If the overall team speed was even close to being the same, then you’d be right. Equal speed and skill comes down to line play. Bardstown in that department is almost always equal or better than who they play. This is a game of total opposite styles. Larue’s chance in this one is to make it 10 yard fights at a time. Bardstown can score and score quick. Kickoff returns, punt returns, pick 6’s, broken plays that turn into long TD runs, 3 step pass concepts that are designed to go 6 yards then turn into 60 yard TD’s. That’s how they score and there isn’t a thing wrong in that. There is a reason for the saying “speed kills”. They have it. They’ve always had it and always going to have it. Larue on the other hand the last couple years have branded themselves on clock eating drives, bend but don’t break defense, onside kicks and they aren’t afraid to go for it on 4th and short from anywhere on the field because they know the longer they have the ball, the less that other team does & their offense is often times (especially against explosive teams) their best defense. Their (and others like them) style of play gets crapped on a lot in this day and age if you aren’t in the gun and/or “balanced” then what are you doing? But 3 of their last four wins dating back to 2018 in the region finals vs Etown they have been down at the half by one-two TDs and they’ve came back to win all of them. I’m not saying that would be the case against Bardstown. But their team and program obviously believe in what they do. Bardstown and their overall team speed (even up front) could run away with this one like they have in their four previous wins or this could end up being a fight to the very end. Neither would surprise me. Larue’s biggest issue is their depth. They are starting (and have been) 10, sometimes all 11 guys both ways and those same guys are on all special teams.
  8. Maybe the single most underrated part of the game. The ability of being automatic in PAT’s, even FG’s from a distance is obviously important. But field position is so extremely pivotal in the high school game. You can be average on offense (lack of speed/big play ability) and be the same on defense, but if you have a kicker and/or punter that can flip the field? You become a dang tough team to beat. Making people start on the 20 everytime you score and flipping the field on punts dictates more games than most care to admit.
  9. Taylor County is definitely a threat & not only will Campbellsville be fine in Class A, but with that being said there are several schools in the Top 10 to 15 in several classes that don't want any part of that smoke.
  10. Look up top and below the talons of each- Apollo removed the star (top) and added another arrow in the grips of the Eagle talons. Maybe also the feather patterns in the wings? You can modify originals and it become legal. The number of modifications? I have no idea. I just know that to be true.
  11. It’s week 3. Unless you are just decimated by injuries and/or unless you’re schedule just shows no chance- then no, them nor anybody should be in any kind of panic mode.
  12. 99 07 08 Three years in the last almost 40 or so that they haven't at least been playing on Thanksgiving Day? Sound right?
  13. That '96 DL coined themselves "Death Row"- a spin off the then popular "Death Row Records" (Tupac, Shug Knight, Dr. Dre) turned football purposes and rightfully so. All four DL on that '96 team signed D1 scholarships and all went onto have very good college, even professional careers in Dennis. Dennis Johnson- UK Derrick Johnson- UK Julius Yeast- Ohio State _____ Patton- UK I can't remember Patton's first name. I don't know that there has ever been a DL before them or after them like that- in any class.
  14. That was Julius. Jason Dunn played TE for the Colonels in the early 90's- he also played at Harrodsburg. He then went onto have very good NFL career at TE. Played several years for the Eagles and Chiefs I believe?
  15. Correct. His family has been in Breathitt before, and he was there his freshman year.
  16. Without a doubt, hands down. I can sit on the beach with my wife, kids, cooler and bake in the sun all day everyday, but especially down there.
  17. I don't think it's about state championships. Not everybody is built to win a state championship, but that doesn't mean you can't have a very good/respectable program. I do think, though that you should look at being able to compete for your district and region championships. With the new playoff set up it's a no brainer that winning your district and getting to a region final is more realistic than it is with Lloyd being paired with Beechwood. However I feel that Lloyd has everything you need to compete with Beechwood. Their numbers are always solid and they have some blue collar-athletic kids. It won't happen overnight.
  18. Yet they'll fire you much quicker for the job that is of "less importance". While what you say still holds true- there are still many places out there that help accommodate head coaches (both in football and basketball) in needed teaching roles, but ones that are less demanding due to how demanding being a head coach (in those sports specifically) are nowadays. There is nothing about being a head football coach that is a part time job except maybe in the offseason/spring semester. I personally think you are starting to see a swing back to how things were in the old days. Administrators know they have to find the best teachers, but they also know the need for quality sports programs in the school and what those do for the overall school culture and the effect they can have on the academic success as well (they both feed off each other obviously). Coaches are becoming harder and harder to find. More are getting out than are getting in it. Administrators know this. They need great teachers (and most good coaches are good teachers- it's just that the public eye likes to focus on the bad apples). I'm sure you know this, but it's funny how a crappy English teacher that doesn't coach anything isn't near the big deal that somebody who is a head coach that might also be a crappy English teacher. Funny how that works isn't it? On a completely other subject, well, not really- I still find it amazing how the south operates (Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and even much of Tennessee) compared to here in Kentucky. Their academics are just as strong, if not better. Their schools and facilities as just as good, and better for the most part. They are able to pay their coaches a ton more. Many of them have Strength/Conditioning most or all of the day. Their coaches have lessened roles in the classroom due to their administration realizing that its a full time job in and of itself.
  19. Great run down. I would put Glasgow up there much higher, though. They return a ton of their playmakers, beginning with their RB who went for over 2,000 yards last year and their QB. They went 11-2 last year- only losing to Franklin-Simpson & Walton Verona, while beating a very good Elizabethtown team, who like Glasgow, returns the core of their 2018 playmakers. I think 3A has three tiers. 1st) CAL, DeSales, Belfry- chances are more than likely that your champion is going to be one of them, if not your two finalist coming from these three. 2) Your group that isn’t those guys, but on a Friday night with some breaks, could knock the above three off. In no particular order because the only thing separating them is likely where the game is played. Ashland Russell Glasgow E-town Tilghman Bell County Taylor County 3) Like group two will hope to do to group one, these guys will hope to do to group 2. Winning a playoff game in the current line up and possibly slipping up and playing for a Region Title would be Cinderella worthy. Solid programs year in year out, some more than others- have their highs and lows over the years, but a lot has to fall in place for them to be serious contenders next year. Bardstown Mercer County Larue County Lawrence County Powell County Casey County Union County Trigg County And probably some others that would fall very interchably in that 9/10-16 range.
  20. I personally think this is a very attractive job for several reasons, and I’m talking attractive to even current head coaches who have maybe had some success. Why? 1) You can win and compete there. So much of a programs success largely hangs on who they have to go against. Their 2A pocket of schools is likely not going to change for the foreseeable future. Walton-Verona is the best one, and while no offense to them- they are human. Gallatin, Owen, Carroll? Same type communities. 2) Facilities. Their new complex is as nice as any 2A/1A program out there with the new stadium and turf. 3) Location. Small town and nice little small town at that while it just so happens to sit right on a major interstate - halfway between both Louisville and NKY/Cincinnati (45 mins from both). Carroll County has always played solid ball over the years. Tough, physical almost all the time and like most “county” places- have a dude or two that’s a little bit special? Hard to handle. You have a legitimate shot, at least with the new realignment, knowing that you have a shot at competing for/playing for a Region Title. Lots to be intrigued by with that one IMO.
  21. Six classes is the ultimate failure here. All the coaches across the state were doing is looking out for the best interest of their program which is completely understandable. If your district was more favorable than the sister district then you went w Interdistrict; if it wasn’t then you voted sister district. It’s not that hard to figure out.
  22. Correct and he was also the head man at Bullitt Central for a year or two as well.
  23. While one of the toughest- to be exepected- there isn’t really anything different from years past. They’ve started a somewhat traditional deal opening with Floyd Central (IN), then the rest of the big boys in Louisville of X, T, Manual, PRP, Butler, Ballard that they have routinely played for the most part over the years. The only newbies are Bullitt East, Fern Creek and Southern due to being in their district.
  24. 16 is too many. But why the “finish by Thanksgiving”? You all do realize that they’ve been played that first weekend in December for the last 30 or more years, correct? (And a couple years where they’ve been played the 2nd weekend in December) If anything cut a game out- week of the playoffs, taking less, but still play 9/10 reg season) & definitely start later.
