  1. I don’t disagree with any of that. Hit some nails on the head. I think they will eventually end up disappearing because enough coaches are going to to just eventually walk away and be done with it, so they won’t be able to find actual qualified people in the very least and away they go altogether.
  2. This is going to sound selfish, but to be quite honest, it’s going to take some selfishness in the coaching ranks to see these changes take place or else there is going to be just enough people applying for jobs to make administration(s) keep doing what they’ve always done in terms of pay and support. Run an offseason program? Compensated. Want June and July workouts? Extended days. If neither of those? Too bad, so sad. Drastic change requires drastic measures. It’s sad to think of it like that, but stipends, compensation aren’t ever going to go up if people aren’t willing to just say “ ✌️ out. I’m done.” And in the masses.
  3. 100% will and it should. As the old saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” I'm not sure the last time Mayfield ever made an outside hire, but they don’t need to start now.
  4. This was addressed earlier and I can't support it enough, but everybody needs to be on board with whomever the hire works out to be for Lincoln County. What I'm about to address isn't so much opinion as it is fact IMVO. Lincoln County just graduated what arguably could be said was one of the most talented, deepest classes in in who knows how long which included who could be considered one of the most talented players in the school's history in Clayton Davis. He was one of those types of players that are game and season changers and would be for most any program in any scheme. With that class & that player, Lincoln finished 6-6 on the field. They had a Covid loss vs Pulaski County, but I don't count those. Why those count as a loss is crazy to me, but that's for another discussion. The reason I bring all of this up is that I think the "Big Red Nation" needs to make sure to understand that there is likely going to be some tough sledding for whomever the new hire is due to aforementioned class, led by Davis and also adding into the fact that their schedule is extremely tough. Let's remove Davis from the field this year and how many games does Lincoln win? Two or maybe three? Lincoln isn't a program that is immune that that, either. There are many many programs across the state where you remove one player and their entire season is different. That is something that, for whatever reason, is way underplayed in high school football. Somerset who Lincoln beat last year is a prime example that the worst of the worst seasons can, do and will happen to anybody. They have been as much of a force in the 2A scene over the last several years as any program, and they've also had two years in that time frame where they've won just one game. I'm assuming Danville is back on the schedule next year? When was the last time they beat the Admirals? Bell County returns several of their key skill kids and they are always good up front. The excitement I'm hearing out of Log Mountain for next years team is as high as ever. Pulaski County is absolutely loaded for bear next year. Coach Hines is extremely high on his team and it's potential next year and rightfully so. Southwestern isn't going anywhere, another team that Lincoln lost to and it was a home loss. East Jessamine will be much improved from their 1-9 team of last season, their lone win coming against Lincoln. Add in their tough district foes of Wayne, Knox Central, Corbin and they are 3-11 dating back to 2019. Rockcastle County they are 2-1 against in that time. Lincoln could absolutely shock everybody next year and just completely flip the script next year, but when you look at who they've played which is as tough and competive schedule as you will find for their respected class along with the successes they had and didn't have, I just dont think it can be stressed enough that whomever the next hire works out to be everyone just needs to support them. Like most things in life, nothing ruins high school football programs more than finger pointing & the blame game.
  5. I wish the new coach the best, but I also hope to see Coach Egli land on his feet again as well if he so chooses to coach. He did a good job there. That district the last three years, especially with how quick Great Crossing’s has burst onto the scene has absolutely become a beast. I’m not so sure how well anybody would do or if they’d have done better. So much gets lost in records, when for the majority of schools in the state it’s all about making the most of what you have in the scenario you’re in.
  6. Offensive Coordinator the last several years and runs their in school strength/conditioning program during the school day. He completely would be. I have a feeling this one being open is nothing more than following protocol.
  7. That playoff stat line sure is going to increase now isn't it? Great call.
  8. So many programs are just one or two kids away from having completely different changes. You're right. Few just want to admit it. Talking about "culture", "climate", etc - attributing that to success make(s) people feel more warm and fuzzy inside.
  9. John returns the makings of a really good team next year and especially for how Preston will play. They return some very good backs, their QB is solid both as a runner and passer, they also return some good linemen with some really good size. After next years class graduates is when things are up in air. Hardin County schools shutting down the flood gates some of open enrollment that has absolutely decimated John’s enrollment and this new influx of troops will be pivotal in their success.
  10. From all I've heard, I think FS might be down for a year or two and then they will be back, ready to make some runs again.
  11. From all I've heard, I think FS might be down for a year or two and then they will be back, ready to make some runs again.
  12. Why is it that enrollment is the be all end all? Enrollment means nothing in many cases, there are a boatload of teams, especially rural-county schools who are 1-2 classes football playing wise what the KHSAA classifies them when it comes to enrollment. Total enrollment means nothing in many cases. Especially rural schools. The kids who have to travel bring nothing to these schools for the most part, yet they boost enrollment and classification.
  13. They only lost Goodin. The other (Oliver) is back. Taylor County isn’t going anywhere.
  14. When the weather is good early on in the season? I think it's very important. As the weather gets colder, the less and less people that come out. At that point in the season, I don't think it matters if it's small town or the big city in regards to being on the road....crowd(s) are usually small. At home? I think it just depends on the program. If its a blue blood, even small towns/county's, crowds are dependent on who the opponent or game is.
  15. That's going to be the hire & should be IMO. Ross deserves his shot. He's been with his dad at John and then has been running the defense ever since going with him to E-town. Offensively they'd still the same. As the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Ross is also in the building and has been as a PE/Health teacher. His dad was just coaching since retiring from the classroom/admin at John Hardin. So, in a smaller school and one such at E-town where the school climate and academics are so strong, people don't leave there. Ross has a couple legs up already. He's due.
  16. Jeff Hester is still there. His youngest son will be a senior next year. He can retire from teaching either at the end of this year or next, now whether or not he will keep coaching after that I'm not for sure. The defense will still be in great hands.
  17. Considering their levels of talent- they win. I never said win titles, I just said "it wins".
  18. I agree. I love the hire from one standpoint because it's Mike Leach and his whole persona. They'll win 6-8, maybe a 9 or 10 here or there- but, it will be around that 7 win average like Morehead. Still blows my mind that some of these schools like Mississippi State and other mid tier Power 5 schools think they are "to good" to hire guys like Jeff Monken from Army, Niumatalolo from Navy, Troy Calhoun from Air Force or even Paul Johnson who was at Georgia Tech. All these guys do is win, with far less talent than almost all of their FBS counterparts. Paul Johnson won in the ACC and had much stricter academic restrictions than Mississippi State- as a matter of fact, that goes for all those guys. But fan bases have gotten to where if they aren't in some form of the gun (not even going to say "spread", bc their styles are actually from the spread- they just happen to be under center and not in the gun). Style over substance.
  19. I totally agree. There is nothing more that I love than watching college football, but it's becoming one of those things where I'll just watch the highlights/cut ups on youtube the next day. Or I find myself watching the service academies (along now with UK even more) because of their style- it's throwback, it wins and it doesn't take up an entire afternoon/evening to watch their games.
  20. I want to say they’ve only had one winning season in the last 12 years or so. Had a couple .500 regular seasons.
  21. Ty Scroggins had a below .500 record at Doss before getting Louisville Central. Kevin Wallace was 10+ games below .500 after a 10 year stint at Warren East- also never having won a playoff game, before going to BG as an assistant and later getting the job. Robbie Lucas had two bad years at Lincoln County for his first head coaching stint, then like Wallace, goes back to Somerset to be an assistant. Gets the job. The rest is history. Doug Preston several games below .500 for his career at different stops before getting hired at Franklin-Simpson, despite a State Runner Up finish in ‘08 and a 10 win season at Western in ‘06. The days of coaches packing up and moving their families for a profession that offers little to no (and sometimes a cut) financial incentive are long gone. Those are very few and far between, and usually there are some underlying reasons as to why (from there/coached there before & going home, retired from education and/or kids grown, specific family reasons, not married/no kids). Sometimes it’s about doing the best w what you have until getting a better situation more conducive to winning. Those men were obviously good coaches all along. Not every place, very few in the grand scheme of things, are built to win.
  22. They definitely care about those two sports there and are successful. That's for sure. Most know what their gym looks like- a Taj Mahal of sorts, and their Soccer complex/stadium is as nice as many football facilities across the state.
  23. You would have thought. That was already going to be a 6 team district, an I believe it was thought they would end up with Christian, Bowling Green, South Warren, Greenwood which would have made it a 6 team district as well (although geography wise would/should have meant Marshall would have swapped out with Grayson, Breck, Ohio, Muhlenberg) Then again, I could completely be wrong with all of this. I thought they had released the projected districts & again, I could be way off (I know they did that in previous realignments. They'd release the projected then it was a rat race scramble to position yourself better if it meant playing up was better than the class you actually are).
  24. They are actually are 5A enrollment wise and elected to play up in 6A, which I didn't blame them for that. It was either Bowling Green, South Warren, Christian County & Greenwood or (and, no offense to these programs at all, but I think we'd all agree they're much more similar to) Daviess County, Apollo, Henderson County, McCracken County. I agree with what you said though in regards to talent level/numbers wise compared to the actual class. There are so many rural county type schools out there who, size wise are one class, but as far as talent-numbers and where they draw their kids from? Much much smaller in class.
