  1. Correct. Classified (ie: coaching) compared to Certified (ie: teaching).
  2. It gets tricky. But a coaching position is considered a classified job, so the 30 day rule doesn’t apply. Now, of course the new coach will have a teaching position, but that side of the thing can be drawn out to meet the 30 day requirement. Unofficially official kind of deal.
  3. It is, although they’ve had it before in the past. Probably no better place to live, though in the state if you are a fan of the outdoors and recreation. They do have facilities.
  4. I agree. If it’s going to be cold, then it might as well snow.
  5. Can I just throw this out there? Can the debate of whether or not KY is a football or basketball state when it comes to the high school level and the talent it produces OFFICIALLY DIE?! Lawwwwd have mercy look that those names and let’s not even forget the ones that didn’t make the “cut”!
  6. Add CAL to the list as well as LCA, from a football side of things. Financially, retirement/benefits if you are actually a teacher? That I’m not sure. As good as being a public school teacher w KTRS? Not even close. LCA- hired from within, correct?
  7. I’ll throw out some other “bigger jobs” that have come open that fit within that criteria- they also hired from within. Not exact on the years, but: -Owensboro -Madisonville -Paducah Tilghman All three in house hires (Tilghman most recently was an in house hire after Steve Duncan had to resign due to to health issues. Interim tag and then later tabbed the HC following the season). I think Henry Clay is a good job that came open and since filled this year. -Biggest public school in the state that just so happens to be in the.. -2nd biggest city in the state who has.. -great facilities and talent pool to be able to REALISTICALLY..... -compete for region titles year in & year out Hired from? Within.
  8. I’m basing the “bigger jobs” off the criteria of: 1) Tradition/Talent 2) Legit chance to compete for a region title and beyond year in, year out 3) Facitlities/Resources Thinking the last few years- the top: Highlands Bowling Green CovCath I’d also throw in: Hopkinsville McCracken Owensboro Catholic Hazard (this year) Paducah Tilghman Corbin came open 6 or so years ago, but it had been 15+ years or so since it had came open. Reason for that, too. Not many. The truly good ones don’t come open very often, and there is a reason for that (namely the numbers listed in my criteria), and if they do- a good amount of time they are in house hires (“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”- see BG, Highlands, O’Cath.” Not a lot of coaches jumping from head job to job in this day & time, few and far between really. Even fewer worth packing up and moving your family for.
  9. There was this guy by the name of Robbie Lucas who didn’t fair very well at Lincoln County in the early 2000’s and then ended up going to a much better situation as an assistant at Somerset, then ended up getting the head job and, well, the rest is history.
  10. Not surprising. Writing his own story there. I think this job and who gets it is real interesting now. Boyle’s “wish list” and who they actually get might be two different things. They’ll get a good coach, but who the chatter is about and who actually get offered, then pulls the trigger to pack yo their families and move? Whole lot of factors in these decisions nowadays on the coaches end of things- more so than ever before. Pardue is retiring also, Hester is retiring from the classroom but staying onto coach at least until his youngest son graduates in a year or two. Are there not any assistants that want it? Bill Mason has gotten into administration while still helping out, Mike Settles has to be getting close to retirement age/years like Hester and might not want to ride that horse again? This will be interesting.
  11. They are in it bc of where the rest of their district teams are in the Louisville Metro/GL area, so Barren joined on in as well. I saw that, too and then took a second to realize.
  12. Agreed. I was hoping this was the case, just being a “formality” thing.
  13. I went ahead and did an interchangeable 5th spot for each class. 1A Pikeville Paintsville NewCath Hazard Lou. Holy Cross/Raceland 2A Somerset Mayfield Beechwood Danville Breathitt/LCA 3A Belfry DeSales Bell Bardstown Mercer/E-town 4A Johnson Central Wayne County Boyle Corbin Central/Hoptown 5A CovCath Scott County FD South Warren Bowling Green/South Oldham 6A T X Male North Hardin Manual/Simon Kenton
  14. Getting a central office type job along with being the Head football coach. Pretty good pay increase.
  15. I saw him up close and personal last Friday night & he’s maybe the most impressive HS football player I’ve seen in this state in a long, long time.
  16. They have made their living the last two weeks, like most teams that advance this far in Kentucky when the weather is drastically different now than it is in August/September, by running the football. In the 2nd half last week vs South Oldham, they only attempted to throw it twice in the 2nd half. Stopping the run and being able to run the ball really well.
  17. Schedules very rarely change due to the 2 year cycle. If you are in a “bowl” game(s), then that opponent likely changes, but other than that they won’t- other than the sites reversing. 19 is 20 20 is 21 22 is 23 ...so on and so forth. Sometimes people do one year deals, but they are in the minority and that’s usually only for one week.
  18. It's becoming that way everywhere-sadly. If the weather is anything less than perfect and/or if the game(s) aren't expected to be good, then people are just going to stay home- especially in bigger towns with so much more to do. Places get spoiled also. Tilghman, Beechwood, etc are traditional powers in really nice towns and/or even metropolitan areas with so much more to do on a Friday night when its 40 degrees or below. Danville, Bardstown, Somerset, etc are the same way in most cases. If its not a big game or the weather isn't perfect, then crowds just aren't like they once were and I don't expect it to get any better.
  19. There are plenty of balanced teams sitting at the house along w some that are still playing. Just like there are teams who aren’t remotely balanced sitting at home, while some are still playing. Bardstown has speed all over the field and a QB that has came into his own this year. When well coached and playmakers all over the place on both sides of the ball are thrown together (as is E-town and other teams still out there), this is the result. That’s what’s tough to handle.
