  1. And people continue to wonder or be amazed as to why men aren’t chasing “good” jobs when they come open. These things don’t pay for crap. Then you have guys like Coach DeRossett who have given their heart and soul to this program, school, town and entire Floyd County community only to be done like this.
  2. Their numbers football wise are in serious trouble also.
  3. Same here. More and more hires across many subject areas are temporary provisional and/or Emergency certified. For those not familiar with those terms; that’s people who have degrees in other areas outside of education, but are going back to school usually to earn their MAT in various subject areas. Fewer and fewer people are going into the field.
  4. The state agreed to pay it back and didn’t. Teachers don’t manage the money. They pay into it and the state manages it, and while teachers knew the state wasn’t paying it back, they we’re being told the state would. The government was using it to pay for other programs, supposed to pay it back and they didn’t. Now teachers are where they are. Other state employees can get in and cause some noise, too, but teachers by in large are the ones in bulk fighting back.
  5. Slice that up however you want. Others could do the same.
  6. Don’t believe that’s how it went. They weren’t aware that things weren’t being handled right by the powers to be in Frankfort.
  7. But teachers are also the ones leading the fight.
  8. I have other things that consume my time and passion than worrying about that. I have no vendetta against Boyle. Just like I don’t with others that choose to play up if it’s what’s best for them. Like Barren County playing up? Smart. Go to one of the other threads and see where I questioned why Greenwood didn’t choose to play up in 6A? My original thread mentioned both Central and Boyle. Why don’t you tell me why they opted to move up then? You’re taking it as a chink in the armour when I’m telling them “well played”.
  9. I know what you said, but they moved for a reason and until somebody can legitimately point out something else I think people are kidding themselves if they don’t think CAL, DeSales and the unknown of Central leaving or not had everything to do with it. They knew they would go with LexCath in 4A. They smashed LexCath last year. It was talked about on the LexCath thread that the pool there isn’t what it once was. I vehemently believe that Boyle looked at the two classes and said let’s try our luck in 4A. And good for them for doing so. I can promise you I’m not a hater. As the late Bernie Mac said, “Get yours because I’m gonna get mine.”
  10. Yes I am. I’m on record with that along with thinking Central might have stayed put, and with them knowing that LexCath isn’t the LexCath of old despite their recent success against Boyle prior to this year. You don’t know what I think of Boyle and Chuck Smith, but since you insinuated what you think I feel then I’m here to tell you that you couldn’t be further from the truth. What he is as a coach and what their program is because of him you can’t put into words. I’m not one bit against them or anybody else playing in classes that better serve them for whatever the reasons my be. I have zero issues with it. Instead of spinning and condemning others opinions on why they think that, why don’t you offer up a reason as to why they went 4A? Lastly even if your assumption was even remotely accurate about how you think I feel about Chuck Smith and Boyle County is their some kind of BGP prison a man gets sent to for that kind of thing? You couldn’t be more wrong on what you think I feel about him or their program.
  11. Same to you for whatever feel good reason you think as to why they petitioned to move up.
  12. And your other reason why is because? Even if you want to believe it; that's on you. Or it was a culprit of throwing the other into the mix and not thinking they'd bounce for 4A, too. If you can think of any other (legit) reasons then fire way. I'll wait.
  13. When programs like Boyle County and Louisville Central take a look at 3A and are like, "Yeah. I'm out. Y'all have a good time." That says all you need to know about how much tougher things got with the addition of CAL and DeSales.
  14. Before the the new realignment coming up and what was released today one would have been crazy to entertain this job or even J-town for that matter. But just like that those two jobs went from bad to pretty good just with the change of classes. If somebody would want to come in next year and just survive, then 19-22 could be a fun few years. They at least now have a chance.
  15. I’m really surprised that Greenwood didn’t petition to play up in 6A. There was no way, shape or form that staying 5A was going to end up being better for them. I mean I am really surprised they didn’t.
  16. This is more about fighting the 'War on Football' that seems to be happening more than anything. I think that's the reason arguments are being made for spring football. I get it and totally support the fight for it. Do I think 10 days of practice in March or April have remotely anything that correlates over to the success or lack of from late August-December? Absolutely not. Do I think that 10 days of work is beneficial for the coaching staffs to see who might be able to step up and fill holes by graduation? Absolutely. Do I think it's a great period for if you are changing schemes and/or looking to tweak some things? Absolutely. Is it a great time when a new hired has been made? Without a doubt. I don't think there is a single argument that could be made against it, but I also think that it's benefits aren't a one size fits all, either. Leave it up to each school, but please don't let a group of 7-8 Jefferson County programs (or any schools) make the decision for all. I've read several arguments against it in terms of not messing up the flow of off season programs and I don't really understand that either. You can go through Spring Football and not jeopardize the work going on there. If you spread it out over three weeks; then lift on the days that you aren't practicing. It's not a popular thing to say, but you can make gains by just lifting twice a week (large gains at that); even once a week. Maybe you want to knock out spring practice in two consecutive weeks? That's perfectly fine as well - adjust your offseason schedule to where that first week of practice sets up with a deload week followed by a Max week. I don't know of anybody running strength programs worth their salt that don't have "deload" (active rest weeks more or less) weeks worked into their programs every 4th to 7th week. Max weeks are often suggested (studies shown) to be followed up by that Deload week.
  17. I think he is spot on and love it for one. He’s exactly right. Good for him. Huggs being Huggs; he just said what a crap load of people want to say.
  18. Bingo. Competition is usually the reason, and I get it - smart on their parts. Transportation is just sitting there conveniently as the reason, and some of the time that's it. Other times it might actually win out if you're splitting hairs between options. However, if a team has to travel being in a class that provides them the best road to a district and even region title appearance then there is never any petitioning to move. Competition trumps all. (or should I say the lack of)
  19. They just aren't very good, but with that said I think they have improved and are playing better in spurts. That doesn't much matter, though because their schedule has and is getting just that much better. When you can't shoot it and no true big man, well, we're seeing it.....
  20. Totally agree with you. Kids do dumb things. We as a society hold coaches to a higher standard it seems than we do ourselves as parents. It's hard enough to make sure our own kid(s) don't ever do dumb things in their lives (or keep them to a minimum), but we expect coaches to make sure that their 30-100 walk the straight line. That incident in the BG locker room after the SW win is not one bit the reflection of the coach Brandon Smith is.
  21. 4+ hour games even from the couch don’t help either, and actually going to the games if you live any distance at all away literally take up the whole day and then some.
  22. Same in our area with the 1 practice/1 game model with soccer, but I've just heard from several coaches out there with some shiny things on their fingers that this was there experience (not having tackle until say 3rd/4th grade) and it was a hard battle getting those kids back out out for football, if they ever did.
