Fall Break Practices/Games

Featured Replies

Everybody probably has a different take on this. I’ve seen so many different variations of this. I’ve seen programs play games on fall break, programs have 3-4 practices, and programs take fall break completely off.

I’ve wondered if anyone ever tried to take a team somewhere for the week and play a team out of state in a vacation area. Kind of like how baseball teams travel for spring break and play games. Any thoughts?

Get your bye week lined up with fall break, take the whole week off.

Seems much easier said than done with District Play and recommended scheduling grid as it is now. Plus when scheduling 2 year contracts many districts don’t have approves calendars planned that far in advance.  Many if not most teams playing very important District games the week of fall break.

Coaches beware - prepare for some mysterious appointments and funerals during fall break week.

Baseball teams are much smaller in numbers, play a lot more games, and have much less equipment to move. As a former basketball coach I can tell you road trips are a real job for coaches and football teams are 3-6 times bigger. The biggest issue would be fitting into another state's scheduling dynamic. If you were going to do it, I would do it( not really lol) week 0-3.

The western half of the state has been doing it for years now, and not just that, but doing just as @wingt51 said.

You can play district games any week except 1 and 11, and within the fine print of the “district scheduling grid” on the KHSAA page, it states fall break as valid exception to the “normal grid”.

With 4 teams it’s easy, but it’s also such with 5 and 6 teams.

There is a reason as to why you only see two games being played along/west of I-65 this week (one of which including Fort Knox bc the DoDEA operates on a different schedule) in ALL classes.

Since you have to have an Open week and the vast majority of school district have fall break (this current week or next), it only makes sense to “kill two birds with one stone”.

This is our fall break. We do not have a game this week. We also have alot of room for improvement. We are going 8-11 am, TUE, WED & THUR. We did give them long weekends on both ends of the week. On Wednesday we have a nice meal after practice. Thursday they get their sweats.

Our town wants to see us play better football. I think someone would kick my tail if we took the week off.

We had to go inside today but it was still productive. Everyone was accounted for as well.
