For the first time in 3 years Mayfield has a full schedule, and this week will welcome the Louisville Central Yellowjackets to War Memorial. Central is a 3A power that has not had their usual success this year as they come in with a 4-5 record ranked #20 in the latest 3A  RPI rankings.

In the second week of the season, Central lost to Belfry 28-0. In that game they had 56 yards passing and 44 yards total rushing. Those numbers will have to improve if they have any hope of leaving Mayfield with a victory.

The Cardinals will possibly get some people back that have been injured, and that will only make them a more formidable opponent for the Yellowjackets.

What do you think? Can Central dial up something that will give them the victory? Tell us what you think.

That young man's story has consumed me for many months. Breaks your heart is putting it mildly. Many prayers for him and his family.

  • Central doesn't have enough offense to win. The Yellowjackets might actually be able to at least make Mayfield break a sweat and play into the 2nd Half. That's kind of been Central's M.O. this ye

This is a game that should be somewhat competitive. Maybe not a running clock. It’s also a game where we  could get England back. He needs to get going because he is the best back in 2A. I think Mayfield will be fine in the playoffs but England needs to play to his potential. I like this game to be in the 42-7 range.

I just looked over Central's schedule, nothing about it says this game will be competitive.

I said somewhat competitive. It probably won’t be over in the first quarter.

Excluding Central …

But, if this doesn’t sum up the current state of KYHSFB and the gap between the “Have’s” and “Have nots” , I don’t know what does.

Lots of bad teams in Kentucky. Way more bad than good.

And not even close. By a long shot and if something isn’t done about how we schedule, playoff format(s) it’s going to get even worse, if at all possible.

Because the majority of Friday nights from Mayfield to Martin County are ….well, it’s boring. Beyond boring.

that's all for another thread/topic, though, which I’m working on and the numbers-idea(s) to improve it (oddly enough, while keeping 6 “divisions”

England is shooting to be back this week but let's not over do it in a game that we can definitely win without him..we need him forsho in round 3 if we end up going to LCA no doubt about that.....

The Yellowjackets might actually be able to at least make Mayfield break a sweat and play into the 2nd Half. That's kind of been Central's M.O. this year.. even playing some of the elite teams they have played they were hanging around until the 2nd Half but just never had the offense to keep up and then their depth wears out.

The Dantzler drama may be an interesting dynamic. Could see that going either way. Could see Central being motivated to give a tribute to their Coach but most likely I could see Central also just being demoralized after such a long bus ride and without their HC.

The biggest fear I have if I am a Mayfield fan is the one thing you can rest assured of is that Central will hit you on defense and they have enough speed to always force cutbacks or catch you with good pursuit (prime ankle or lower leg risk territory). Mayfield needs to avoid an injury in this game that may be a big problem in three weeks. Get the cushion needed that Central can't come back then lean into your defense while getting some of your best offensive weapons off the field as soon as possible.

One thing I'm nearly sure of. Mayfield will be ready to play this Friday night. This is only the second game all season with a pulse. I think this game tells something about Mayfield come playoff time.

He just came home today from Saint Jude. He needs all our prayers.
