VENUE:  Harrison County High School

After an 11-year hiatus this epic rivalry of Harrison Co and Highlands is back at it since Highlands dropped down to 4A.  Highlands and Harrison played 4 times between 2011-14 and Highlands only had a winning margin of 59 points in those battles.

Has Harrison Co after 11 years been able to find that winning solution to turn the tide in this District battle?  Unfortunately, Harrison hasn’t found much of a winning formula in 2025 losing 4 straight to start their season but finally went to Walton Verona this past Friday to pick up there first W, 28-7.

Highlands on the other hand finally got back to winning ballgames taking care of business vs Ryle this past Friday to move to 4-1 and continues to be in the Top 4’ish ranking in 4A football.  This matchup should allow them to rest some starters and get some 2nd stringers some reps to keep creating that depth when future games come around. You might need to go down your depth chart due to injury or just a bad day at the office this way you can have a kid that has seen some Varsity reps jump in so you can have that “Next Man Up” mentality without skipping a beat.

Highlands rolls in this one! Safe travels…

RC before end of 1st.  Birds not going to learn anything from this one.

This might need to be its own topic. But, could there be some sort of system where teams can mutually agree not to play a district game? No one gets anything out of this. Pre-season HC could say so, Highlands could put someone else on schedule… and everyone is better off.

I’m sure logistically it’s impossible. But the Birds JV would clock Harrison’s Varsity.

Let less competitive teams build a schedule and still compete for 2nd/3rd/4th place. (Thinking of Beechwood’s district here. In this district 1-2 are clearly CCH/Highlands)

A whole bunch to not many......if any.

I think what you're describing is the route Holmes took this year trying to save the program as an example.

Yes. Completely opting out is one option. I just wonder if there couldn’t be a middle ground.

Early night for the starters. Hope it’s an injury free game.

If I were Commissioner here is my thought:

Allow Highlands to receive their Maximum RPI benefit of this game if they won by running clock.

Then allow Harrison Co to play Highlands JV (for this example maybe even Highlands JV 2nd stringers if there is a thing).

Still have this new game under the lights on Friday night (Highlands JV players probably would think that’s pretty cool) so you can still reap the rewards of a gate ($$$), crowd, concessions income which might be benefiting another school group and cheerleaders.

I realize it’s not the BEST option, but it’s better than an early running clock and potentially teams absolutely physically hurting under manned competition.

I am sure there are holes in this idea but just throwing mud against the wall….

If BGP was around in 96-98 this would’ve been a thread every week for the most part. Birds big early.

RC Cola game possibly by late in the first quarter for sure by halftime.

Great interview!

Great interview. I don't often listen to KSR unless it is football season.

I couldn't help but notice how many times they said Willie Rodriguez play for the Birds.
