Dogs go undefeated?
horst muhlmann replied to Rimbuster's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
If you are speaking in 9th Region terms, then I think it is possible. I agree with others that their games with Holy Cross and Highlands will be the most competitive of those on the remaining schedule. As far as winning state in an undefeated fashion, that would be much more difficult as E-Town is, IMHO, the cream of the crop this year. Holmes and Highlands (and maybe Holy Cross) can each win 30 games this season. -
Last year's regional champ wasn't even ranked in the top 10 at the beginning of the year.

Holmes is very talented this year. Their individual defense is outstanding.

Queen of the Palms Tourney

Either Holmes is really good (which we already know) or this Florida team hasn't played anyone. To be 12-2 and lose this big to Holmes is surprising. Maybe KY girls BB is better than we give them credit for. -
LaRosa's Holiday Classic at Conner 12/29-12/31
horst muhlmann replied to coach14's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
3 games in 24 hours, and 4 in 48 hours will tax even the most physically fit teams. I have seen the level of play vary from the beginning to the end in these types of formats. These holiday tourneys can be a good barometer for future success for teams forced to play multiple games in a short window of time. If Highlands (7-0) plays to their talent level, they should run the table. Their pool includes Boyle (6-3, 13th region), Owensboro Catholic (3-3, 3rd region) and Walton Verona (3-5, 8th region). From a stamina standpoint, likely better that Highlands has to play Boyle first. Other pool includes Bullitt Central (5-4, 6th region), Conner (2-4, 9th region), Bishop Brossart (2-4, 10th region) and Lexington Catholic (2-5, 11th region). Good luck to all the teams and safe travels. -

Highlands' versatility will be a problem for just about any opponent this year, as they all defend, get in passing lanes, run the floor, penetrate, share the ball, and shoot FTs well. All 5 starters also can shoot the 3 well As an example, JR Adler was 5-8 from downtown last night. Although the occasional off night is certainly possible, I am predicting 30 wins. The balance they have this year is as good as Coach Richey has had in all her years at Highlands. -

I expect Highlands to avenge last season's opening loss, especially with the superior experience they have this year. On any given night any one of 5 players could go off for 20. Probably a good thing that Highlands plays them early as the Valkyries' youth and inexperience will dissipate as the season goes on. Expecting a fairly low scoring affair as the girls start the season. Lady Birds 53 Valkyries 42 -

Amen brother.... As the parent of one of those seniors, I appreciate this post very much. Our boys battle for the regional title but in the end it's good for N.Ky football pride to root for the victors. -

I will say that the TD drive at the end of the 1st half was a thing of beauty. We said the same thing at the time. The answer by the Birds after CovCath had scored cutting the lead to 20-13 and knowing they would receive the 2nd Half kickoff may have been the biggest TD of the season. -
Update thread was incorrect Ram. Birds took a knee once the clock had sufficiently run down

As one of the parents who assisted in trying to clear the stands of the 5+ inches of snow, I must say that the thought of not clearing the visitor's section of the stands crossed our minds.... All kidding aside, the playing surface at DCM Stadium will be ready to go Friday night. As for the stands, let's hope for some sunlight and warmer temps this week so the job can be completed. The regular season meeting in September means absolutely nothing, other than the game is in Fort Thomas on Friday night vs. Park Hills on Saturday. Although the cold temps may slightly impact the passing games on both sides, I think the game, as is often the case in late season, cold weather venues, will be decided in the trenches. Whichever team can control the LOS on both sides will be playing next week in the 4A state semi-finals. -
Agree with Stinky. Ashland did a nice job defensively and contained Hoge very well. SO to Jr tailback Nick Kendall with 4 rushing TDs. In typical Highlands fashion, the offense took what the defense gave them and ran the ball north south very well. Very fine effort by Ashland. Baker in space is a handful.
