1. You spelled it correctly, and Beau will be a Senior next season. His football IQ is off the charts.
2. First batter reached on a first pitch ground ball error which really changed the first inning, which allowed CCH to do what they do best... lay down 2 perfectly executed bunts. Big DP to end the 1st inning. CCH up 2-0 with the bases loaded and no outs it looked grim for the Birds. Battled back to make it a game.
3. A Moeller parent said their only 2 losses before yesterday were to Elder
4. For HHS, Cochran started, went 4 2/3. Martin relieved and went 1 1/3. Beechwood was the home. For Beechwood, not sure who started but Bankemper relieved and threw well for 3+ innings. Birds loaded the bases in the top of the 7th off of a side-arm righty but couldn't dent the plate.
5. When are the semis and finals if the Tigers win on Saturday?
6. With an 18-1 record and 2.5 runs per game allowed (47 runs in 19 games) it's hard to argue with Old_Bulldog.
7. Casey Jones of course... Member of BSCC, watching the game from his favorite spot on the hill.
8. [Got a chuckle out of this one. We said the same thing once the 6th inning started. The Birds scoring those runs to move off of the dreaded 666 was a relief... Gotta keep the devil out of Campbell County... Getting back to the game, Whitford is on an absolute tear at the plate, hitting the ball to all fields. Nice to see Ramey go 3-4 at the plate. Murray made a great play in LF on a ball that very few OFs get to. Young man can motor. Couple of other plays stand out in this one. First, after the Breds had tied the game at 6, Bartels worked a 10 pitch AB, only to eventually ground out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 5th, keeping the game tied. Second, the Birds scoring the second run in the 6th inning on the overthrow on a dropped third strike was huge. Finally, Alex Veneman making a diving catch in the bottom of the 6th on a flare to short center kept the Breds off the board. As Mr. Graham said, Birds played add on the 7th by scoring 5 insurance runs.
9. Should be a good test for CovCath's potent offense.
10. Unless Moeves pitched yesterday vs. Anderson (OH), I would expect him to pitch tonight... after all, didn't he start vs. Beechwood in the All A finals.
11. Both teams are scoring runs in bunches so of course, the team with the better pitching will likely prevail. Having spoken to a couple of parents from kids on both squads, I give the pitching edge to Beechwood. Should be a good one. Tigers 8, Colonels 7 in a classic, although I wouldn't be surprised if CovCath won either. Mullins was quoted in today's morning paper saying he thought the all A state tourney (which begins this Thursday apparently) was more important than this district seeding game.
12. Who pitches for both squads? NCC has another seeding game vs Highlands on Wednesday at Moescher.
13. SO Smallwood started for Dixie followed by SR Wehrle. JR Kerns was scheduled to start but was a late scratch.
14. In the 2 innings I saw the HC pitcher was hitting his spots and the Indians were playing solid defense behind him. From the HC perspective, a good win against a quality opponent. For Birds fans, turn the page and get ready for the next game.
15. JR SS Jake Whitford was absolute money in the field with several outstanding plays where he flashed the leather big time. Whitford also had what may have been one of the best ABs all season with the game tied at 0-0 in the top of the 6th inning JR LF Brady Murray led off with a HBP, was advanced to 2nd by a perfect sac bunt by JR 2nd baseman Grayson Heck, and then Whitford fouled off what seemed like 10 pitches down in the count 1-2 only to get a hard hit single back up the box to drive in Murray for the game's only run. JR LHP Lou Bunning and JR LHP Jacob Noe combine on a 3 hit shutout. Bunning went 5 IP earn the win, striking out 5 and walking none. Noe finished with 2 scoreless frames, striking out 1 and walking none to record the save. Of the 24 batters they faced, 22 were first pitch strikes. Both pitched to contact and had great defense behind them. Great team win. Pitcher for McNick (#10 - Browing) was the hard luck loser and threw a complete game and was solid from the start.
16. HHS plays Holy Cross at NKU at 5 p.m.
17. Sounds like Voldemort in the Harry Potter series. How is JR Catcher Jake Schmidt doing for Beechwood? He's a great kid.
18. Defensive indifference....
19. Clyde is correct. Although I can see how those who think it's a SB could justify it.
20. HHS out hit Boone 8-1 in the opener last Friday. Pitching depth this season will certainly help keep the Birds in a lot of games if the bats aren't working. Ramey has been clutch in the 1st 2 games.
21. Will the field be ready for the game?
22. Beautiful day at Highland Park and a nice crowd this afternoon for a 10 inning scrimmage with McNick. Birds won 14-4. Todd Ramey leads the team with 3 doubles. All 10 hurlers threw for the Birds. Good to see JR Jacob Noe back on the mound after missing his sophomore season. Birds open up at Boone County Wednesday.
23. The only ones I know of are the 2 Hepplers, Ben (Sr.) and Will (Soph).
