  1. Texas high school playoffs used to be best 2 of 3, with a Friday night game followed by a DH on Saturday if necessary. While it would be difficult to schedule, it would not be impossible.
  2. I was told the freshman class for 2014 has only 46 students.
  3. 18U Kentucky Colonels Seth Caple - Dixie Jeremy Downs - Ryle Tony LaCorte - St. Henry Andrew McWhorter - Walton Verona Chase O'Connor - Gallatin County Reed Spata - Scott Matt Wehrle - Dixie Mac Welsh - Ryle Lou Bunning - Highlands Noah Galvin - Covington Catholic Spencer Hackworth - Bishop Brossart Ethan Harrison - Dixie Colin Hathorn - Cooper Henry Kerns - Dixie Sean Lawrence - Simon Kenton Blaise Ostertag - Conner Cameron Faehr - Boone County Marshall Rich - Ryle Jake Schmidt - Beechwood Colin Suttles - Dixie
  4. Ross gets the start for the Cougars I'd presume. Good luck to Arlo and the 9th Region champs.
  5. With Regional titles by Simon Kenton (8th), Conner (9th) and Scott (10th), this seems to be one of the best years for Northern Kentucky baseball in recent memory. Outstanding showing by the local schools. Hoping that one of them brings home the trophy. Thoughts?
  6. Sean plays on my son's summer team and is a great kid. He has been a horse all season and I hope the extra inning game doesn't have any long term impact. Knowing how religiously he ices his arm, I'm confident it won't.
  7. Dave Malone pitched the 1st and 2nd games of the region that year... what a difference 35 years makes. Don't think KHSAA had innings restrictions back in the day....
  8. Congrats to Arlo and Conner on a well played final. Pitching was excellent on both sides. S/O to SO Rick Raisor on a brilliant pitching performance for the Birds and to JR Ostertag on gritting his way through 5 scoreless innings as well. As Coach Baioni said in his post game comments, the Birds just weren't able to cash in on the few scoring chances they had. Unlike the earlier 2 regional games vs. Beechwood and Dixie, where most of the damage was done with 2 outs, the Birds just couldn't get the clutch hit in the final. Kuddos to JR Ostertag and FR Craddock for making good pitches when they needed to. Good luck to Conner vs. Boyd County, an upset winner of the 16th Region, on Tuesday.
  9. The dreaded mental errors are always tougher than the physical ones. Kuddos to Dixie on their outstanding year. Good luck to the Seniors on their careers going forward.
  10. Per the DHHS website, the 2014 roster includes 8 Seniors and 13 juniors. SRs Caple, Daria, Hicks, King, Ruedebusch, and Wehrle had very successful careers at Dixie. JRs Harrison, Kerns, Suttles and Niehaus each played prominent roles this season. Was a bit surpised that Kerns didn't pitch for the Colonels last night. After all, didn't he pitch the regional final last year?
  11. Birds have pitching depth and I know Coach Baioni has faith in everyone he can turn to tonight. KHSAA rules count 1 pitch as 1 inning so JR Bunning, who threw 1 2/3 innings last night, but part of the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings, is unavailable. SO Raisor, FR Doty, SR Vermeil, JR Noe, JR Ball, SO Kreeger, and SR Allen would all be available if their names are called. Pretty amazing job by Coach Baioni and his very dedicated staff. The cupboard is very full in Fort Thomas. #Win the Day.
  12. Sniper gun made with a broken bat. Good clean fun. Summer teams use them all the time.
  13. Big S/O to SR Ben Vermeil with his 2nd pinch hit in as many nights to lead off the bottom of the 6th inning. That hit catapulted the Birds to 3 big insurance runs. As I was watching the last inning unfold as a Birds fan I was glad to see JR Ethan Harrison not get another AB. As many posters have seen over the last 2 years, Harrison always comes up big in clutch moments. Outstanding SS and even better young man.
  14. I had made that same comment to someone as Ganns headed out to start the 7th inning yesterday.
  15. I'll take a 1-0 or 2-1 game over 10-9 anytime.
  16. HHS fans did laugh quite a bit today. 10-0 in 6 innings.
  17. Although NCC is hosting the 36th district tournament, if Bellevue is the #2 seed, why is NCC the home team?
  18. One of the best district semi-final matchups in the state. Two senior stud pitchers battling it out.
  19. SR Allen is showing good leadership as the Birds approach districts (lead off triple in the top of the 7th Monday, closed out the game in relief yesterday). Another game where the Birds kept chipping away until they were able to get key hits in the late innings. Suicide squeeze by JR Veneman was clutch. Although Ryle may have a losing record this season, don't be fooled by their record. SR Mason Forbes is a big time player and others have pop in their bats. Starting pitcher SO Jake Ziegelmeyer threw well, relieved by SR Tom Deters and JR Max Lonnemann. JR Catcher Marshall Rich had a key hit to tie the game in the 6th inning after HHS had taken a 5-4 lead. They have 13 seniors (it was their Sr. night yesterday) and are solid up and down the lineup. And from the small glimpse we got to see of their ace (SR Josh Bellew) who pitched in relief in the 7th inning, they will be a tough out for Conner next Tuesday in the 33rd district semifinals.
  20. Great win for Cooper. That 33rd district is brutal.
  21. Good resolve by the Birds in this one. After Forbes' solo homer to lead off game and the fielding miscues as stated by jpa, Birds' pitching duo of Bunning and Ball put up zeros the rest of the way. Kuddos to Kenny Ball on his first win of the season. Allen, Ramey and Heck with big hits for the Birds. Lead off triple by Allen in the Top of the 7th keyed the Birds late rally. Same 2 teams play again today at Ryle. St. X cancelled on the Birds for their scheduled Senior Day today, which has been rescheduled for this Friday at Highland Park.
  22. Saw Brandon Gray at a recent baseball game and he said he'd be ready to go for football season. Important to get his skill set and leadership back for NCC this year.
  23. SR Cochran and JR Bunning got some maintenance work in advance of Thursday's district game vs Bellevue at HP. Kuddos to SO Conner Kreeger who pitched well for 4 innings in relief in his first varsity appearance, allowing no earned runs.
  24. Moeller brought 30 Varsity players to the game.... sure would be nice to have a #8 starter on your varsity roster... Agree with jpa, always good for the N.Ky schools to show well against their much larger counterparts across the river...
