Wow. Who pitched for both squads?

The JV Birds run their record to 20-7 with the win at St. Mary's in Alexandria. SO Kenny Ball with the win with 4 1/3 innings of shutout relief. Ball also paces the Birds at the plate going 2-3 with a double and 3 RBI. SO Donnie Mills and SO Luke Hennigan each added 2 RBI. Embs and Heil led the Stangs with 2 hits each. Verst took the loss for Brossart.

So everyone on BGP can rest easy, this 8th grader has split time time between JV and frosh all year, as have every one of the freshman playing frosh for the Birds.

Absolutely correct. It seems as the boys get older and more mature there is a bit more consistency in their play. But I agree that it can happen at any level. Errors are the most glaring difference between frosh and JV and V levels.

That's frosh baseball. Cooper likely had one of the best records in the region.

Heard 8th grader Ethan Doty threw a gem through 6 innings but had to be pulled after 90+ pitches. Great to see FR Casebolt nail down the save for the Birds. Had the pleasure of helping his Dad coach him in knothole 3 years ago. Absolutely thrilled for him. Wonderful kid with great parents.

Add in Beechwood and NCC and the tourney should be a good one.

JV Birds improve to 18-6 on the season with the win at Highland Park. SO Grayson Heck (4-0) goes the distance for the Birds on just 80 pitches. After giving up 2 earned runs in the top of the 1st inning, Heck settled down and put up zeros the rest of the game. Birds were lead at the plate by SO Kenny Ball and FR Mitchell Cain with 2 hits each. Cain's 2 out bases loaded single plated 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to give the Birds a 3-2 lead and they played add on for the final margin. FR Joseph Kroger went 5 2/3 innings for the Crusaders and was 2-3 at the plate.

Of the teams I've seen, Ryle has the upper hand in the West. The East is loaded. With the exception of Holy Cross, who I admittedly saw very early in the season, the other teams in the East all have winning records (not sure of Campbell County). CCH, NCC, HHS, and Beechwood all are solid. Should be a good JV tourney.

Birds take advantage of wildness on the part of Dixie's pitchers to score 13 runs on only 7 hits. SO DJ Mills drives in 3 runs for the Birds and FR Conner Kreeger has a pinch hit single to plate 2 in the deciding 6th inning. JV Birds play host to Scott tomorrow at Highland Park at 5:00.

OL Scott Turner from Highlands will have a great senior season and will certainly merit many looks at the next level.

Good to the see the sophomore get the opportunity on the big stage. Nice young man. CCH should expect a steady dose of breaking balls.

In most years Mother Nature takes care of the KHSAA limit. 36 games in what amounts to an 8-9 week regular season equates to around 4 games per week, which is not an unreasonable number. I was surprised to learn that Ohio limits the number of games to 27.

For the most part Liggett has been outstanding in relief during his senior season. His Dad told me last Saturday he's lost 30 pounds and the results speak for themselves.

Kuddos to SR Reid Schroder with his 1st career inning in relief. Great kid. Glad to see him get an opportunity to pitch. When asked when he had last pitched in a game, his Dad said it was his 1st career appearance on the mound.

That play turned out to be huge as the next batter for the Birds (SO Murray) singled to right field. Runner on 1st with 1 out is far better than runners on 1st and 2nd with no out. Great bang bang heads up play by the Ryle SS.

Sorry CPU. One of the Ryle parents gave me the wrong record after the game. Good luck to the Raiders the rest of the season.

Ryle avenges its earlier loss to Highlands with a hard fought victory at Highland Park. FR Alex Goodrich goes the distance on the bump for the Raiders earning the win. Goodrich scattered 7 hits while striking out 3 and walking only 1. FR Jake Ziegelmeyer leads Ryle with 3 hits. 8th grader Ethan Doty settled down after a rocky start to throw 3 innings for the Birds. SO Jeff Orne threw 4 innings of scoreless relief. The Birds were lead at the dish by SO Alex Venneman and SO Josh Watson with 2 hits apiece. Although he took the loss, young Mr. Doty has great command on the bump and is going to be a special player for many years for the Birds. Doty's JV record now stands at 2-1. With the win Ryle improves to 12-5. Highlands suffers their first loss of the season after 14 straight wins. Weather permitting the Birds host Covington Catholic tomorrow afternoon at Highland Park.

Highlands JV runs its record to 14-0 with the win before a nice crowd at Highland Park this afternoon. SO Lou Bunning gets the win going 5 2/3 strong innings on the bump, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) while scattering 4 hits, striking out 9 and walking 3. SO Clint Bartels goes 5+ innings for the Breds, holding the hot hitting JV Birds down for the 1st 5 innings, only to get hit pretty hard after taking an L screen absolute rocket off the bat of SO Todd Ramey. Birds played add on in the 6th inning with 6 consecutive hits and a HBP before the Breds recorded an out. Birds offense was lead by SO Ramey and SO Jeff Orne with 2 hits each. Nice to see FR Mitchell Cain with his first RBI base knock of the season after missing the first 12 games with fractured ankle. SO Luke Hennigan (rehabbing after a few weeks on the shelf) SO Orne, and FR Cain had 2 RBI each. IMHO, very surprised Bartels stayed in the game after being struck by Ramey's line drive. Also was a bit surprised that the NCC coach removed RF Dew after he misjudged a ball hit down the line. Seemed a bit extreme at the time. NCC scored 5 runs in the top of the 7th before SO Ramey came on to record the save. SO Nate Enslen, SO Brandon Gray, and SO Bartels led the Breds at the dish with 2 hits each.

Missed this one in favor of the UK Spring game but ran into Coach Reynolds who said the boys continued to rake at the dish, banging out 15 hits. Team batting average is up to .350 for the season. JV Birds up their record to 13-0. Tough schedule this week as the JV Birds play NCC at home Monday, at Beechwood Wednesday, Ryle at home Thursday, and CovCath at home Friday.
