Brossart goes Independent for 2014

Featured Replies

The following was posted for Mustang football, I think it was a good move and a move that needed to be made for program to continue.

In preparation for the move to 1A in the fall of 2015, the decision has been made to drop the 2A District Teams from this year’s 2014 Mustang Football Schedule.

For 2015, Bishop Brossart will be moving to Class 1A, District 5 and joining Berea, Bracken County, Nicholas County and Paris.

Accourding to bmustang.com Brossart is dropping its district games and going independent for the 2014 season. With it being June and the season starting in a few months is there a penalty that they will get for doing it. Is that a breach of contract with the district teams they was suppose to play with a short notice I'm sure there arn't many teams that have open games that these teams can fill. Im not sure how it works does the KHSAA have to approve them doing it or how does it all work. Any insight I would appreciate it.

Good they moved my post to this we posted almost at the same time :ylsuper:

Did the KHSAA approve this? This is a pretty shady move by Brossart. The season starts in 3 months.

Unless you are in Trinity, St. X, Male, Manuel district there is no reason to ever drop. It's a weak path to take and never saves a program just keeps it at a low level.

This program is on life support. Getting pounded in that district does absolutely no good. They finished last year with only 18 healthy bodies and graduated 9 seniors from that bunch. It's a good move, but should have happened 5-6 months ago.

Brossart football has one foot in the grave already. I don't see this program lasting too much longer. They need bodies desperately to fill the team still.

And the school if they have 46 frosh next year.

Brossart and NCC should combine.

Brossart started football to save the school. A good idea but looks like they might come up a lil short. Tough thing to do with all the options in NKY.

I was told the freshman class for 2014 has only 46 students.

That's about 20 more freshman than Frankfort has coming in if all male. Thought 2015 they were moving to the district with Frankfort, Eminence, holy Cross (Louisville), and them?

No school would ever want to make this move, this is a move you do when you feel like you have no real alternative and are tying not to hurt/embarass your school and kids.

Brossart is in a no win situation this year. If they play the games with the low numbers they may not have enough to finish the year due to injuries, or at least be competitive. However, with the options student/athletes have for choices to play football in Brossarts main area where they draw from, between Campbell County, Ncc, and Cov Cath, this isn't going to help. Unless all their buddys go to Brossart, or their parents went there, this is a very tough sell to get someone to wear the green and white over other schools they could play at. Brossart has to push hard the fact that they can compete after this year for a district title and a guarenteed a playoff game back in 1A.
