Second time around.

Highlands schooled Cov Cath on September 26th, winning 42-7 in Ft. Thomas, starting a three-week skid for the Colonels. Cov Cath has battled the injury bug all season long, but managed to pull off a somewhat surprising 19-7 win over an undefeated Johnson County team last week in order to make their way back to David Cecil Memorial Stadium for a rematch.

Highlands' two losses on the season have both come at the hands of out-of-state teams, losing to Miami Columbus out of Florida and Bishop Elder out of Ohio. Cov Cath was defeated by Ohio perennial powerhouse Moeller prior to their first bout with Highlands, and has lost to 1A Beechwood and 6A Ryle since their district matchup with the Bluebirds.

Highlands comes into week three of the playoffs off of a somewhat surprisingly close 30-15 victory over Ashland Paul Blazer, and Cov Cath comes into week three after winning in Paintsville with an-injury fraught squad. So who wins it and heads on to the 4A semi-finals on November 21st?

It seems like the Colonels bring out the best in the Birds, but doesn't seem like the other way around. Not sure if isn't more of a mental thing at this point, but Cov Cath may want to change their approach leading up to Friday night. Through the past several years it looked as if it was the Colonel's time, only to have Highlands win rather easily. Will be interesting to see how this one plays out, but you are who you are until it chances. I don't see much changing this Friday either. Birds 35 Colonels 14.

Forget who wins. Let's ask the real questions - what pants are the colonels wearing and were they able to get the stain marks out from the first meeting? :jump:

Like most games when the teams are close athletically, it will come down to execution. Last night, HHS did not execute well on scoring opportunities at times (inside the 5 twice with no points, missed 2 FG's although one was over 45 yards, clock mismanagement at end of 1st half that did not allow a FG attempt). I don't think that says HHS "was looking ahead" or was "flat"... they just did not execute. The HHS O moved the ball very well for most of the game, scored 30 and could have EASILY had 50 and then nobody is questioning their performance. The D really played very well the vast majority of the game. Two big plays accounted for all of Ashland's points and they have a great RB.

HHS will have to execute better against CovCath next week. They got away with some sloppiness last night but if they leave a lot of points on the field next Friday, they could be in trouble.

I predict HHS wins by 2 TD's but nothing ever surprises me in this game.

It seems like we have to ask this each week, but what is the CovCath injury situation after last night??

Cov Cath 31

Highlands 28

Zero chance CCH puts up 31 points. For CCH to win their D is going to have to have a monster effort and hold HHS to 14 or 17.

That will be fun to watch...CCH's D holding CCH to 14 or 17:)!!

As does HHS's D. This game worries the heck out of me. It's CCH. HHS's biggest rival! The second game always takes on a whole different dimension. This is it for one of the teams. Throw all the past out the window for this one. Expect a great game by both in front of a packed house. I'm guessing the pressure will on for both Coaches in this one. One starting his legacy and the other trying to save it.
