  1. KHSAA website shows several forfeits by Henry Clay so I would have to assume he played a few more games.
  2. Pitching has been excellent Q. However, the Henry Clay 7-0 game was a forfeit as HC used an ineligible player.
  3. Great write up. Only 13 teams. Does that seem like a small # to others around the state?
  4. Jones allows only 2 hits through 6 and Doty finishes it up with a 1-2-3 7th inning. Varney and Breeden pitched for Dixie. Ramey continues to mash the ball to all fields.
  5. This is impressive. Have to think Greenup is the favorite in the 16th region.
  6. Cam is a terrific young man. Congrats to him.
  7. Yes the lead off hitter (#5) was 5-5 and the catcher (#18) was 4-4.
  8. Final from Union. Alex Veneman gets the win in relief. Thomas takes the loss for the Jags. Birds move to 21-7 on the season. Big blow by JR Austin Mayhew in the 7th inning with a 2 rbi single with the bases loaded to give the Birds some insurance.
  9. He plays for the Braves, along with Highlands' JR RHP Rick Raisor
  10. The Birds lost to Ruwe of CCH last Saturday (assume he is CCH's No. 1). Assuming Purnell is Boone County's ace, Highlands beat them last night 12-2 with their #4 starter. So the Birds have faced their share of "aces"
  11. To correct prior posters, Whitford hit a single to RF and Murray's bunt was pushed perfectly down the line at third. And Ramey's HR would not have been 40 feet short of most fences as it was a rope over the old scoreboard. Purnell is obviously a talented pitcher who had a rough outing. I think he gave up 8 or 9 hits in 2 innings. It happens to the best of them. Heck that same Hall of Famer was commenting that he lead the league in home runs allowed many years in the bigs. Purnell will bounce back I'm sure. Good luck to Boone the rest of the way.
  12. Game was 12-2 in 5 innings. Birds had 11 hits to only 3 for Boone. Birds played errorless baseball while the rebels had 3 errors. Purnell throws hard. Radar gun had him sitting at 85. Although he seemed to get a bit rattled by the 1st inning HR by Ramey and the questionable calls that juneball referenced. A Hall of Famer in the crowd was noticing his reactions and commented that pitching is so much more than having great stuff. Composure is a vital part of the game especially for a pitcher. Congrats to Coach Baioni on his 2nd consecutive 20 win season. Highlands moves to 20-7 while Boone drops to 13-10.
  13. You are 100% correct. Foul ball if it is not touched before it goes foul before it crosses past the first or third base bags.
  14. NCC lost to Cooper last night 8-6. IMO I still think NCC (as opposed to Bellevue) and Highlands come out of the 36th district this year.
  15. Yes - Bring the ticket stub and get a free pie. Unfortunately everyone watches the games at HP for free and there are no ticket stubs.
  16. Birds up their record to 18-4 with the win in front of a nice crowd at Highland Park. Five more long balls for the Birds as SR Joe Martin and SR Todd Ramey club 2 each and SR Jake Whitford hits a 3 run shot. That's 9 home runs in the past 2 games for the Birds. Birds offense has been on fire lately. The Birds pitching combo of SR Lou Bunning (4 IP 6 Ks), SR Jake Noe (2 IP 3 Ks) and SR Mitchell Jones (1 IP 3 Ks) get free pizza for all in attendance striking out 12 Pioneers. Bunning ups his record to 4-1 on the season. Franzen started for SK and took the loss. SR Sean Lawrence homered for the Pioneers and Smith had 2 hits including a double.
  17. Theoldgiy, referred to as TOG, stopped posting a couple of years ago. He keeps the book for CCH.
  18. SR DJ Mills hit 2 solo home runs for the Birds. Ramey and Martin added solo shots as well. JR John Penrod made his first varsity start a winning one for the Birds. Birds are now 17-4 on the season.
  19. Highlands Seniors playing next year are Alex Combs, West Virgina Tech (NAIA) and Lydia Graves, Georgetown KY (NAIA).
  20. In the championship game in the Reid Rizzo Memorial Tournament, Highlands erases early 2-0 and 4-1 deficits as the bats get going late. Birds had 17 hits in the win. SR Todd Ramey ends it in the bottom of the 6th with a towering home run over the left center field fence at LaSalle. SR Joseph Martin was 6-6 in the 2 games with 2 doubles and 2 walks. JR Rick Raisor ups his record to 5-0 with the complete game effort. Highlands moves to 16-4 on the season. Grove City, a school of approximately 2000 students south of Columbus, has several solid hitters in their lineup.
