Ethan Doty pitched 6 innings of 1 run ball for the Birds. Jake Noe came in and closed the game. Jake Whitford hit a grand slam to straight away center into the wind to get the scoring started for Highlands. Mark Walkenhorst also had a great day at the plate for the Birds..Blaise Ostertag took the loss for Conner.

Congrats to the Birds. I understand Doty is ranked very high in his class across the state as far as being a D-1 prospect. He also hits mid 80's consistently. Not too shabby for a soph.

I know Doty worked all winter at Midland for catching... does he not catch at all for varsity or jv?

Sometimes..Sr. Luke Hennigan is the starting varsity catcher. Ethan does catch some jV games..

Birds' pitching depth is what sets the team apart from other high school teams. They have several hurlers who can shut their opponents down.

 

The fact that SO Doty didn't get a start on the mound until game 15 of the season speaks volumes of the depth this year.

 

If the Birds' bats stay hot they have a legitimate chance at making a very deep postseason run.
